NOT MANY JOBS AT LATEST "JOB FAIR"

On Tuesday the Absent Teacher Reserves from Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island were compelled to go to the Brooklyn Museum to attend a job fair. All of the reports I have received say that there were very few positions there for the hundreds of ATRs who attended.

We are also hearing about schools that are hiring multiple new teachers and passing up on the experienced teachers who are out there. This is really sad.

Didn't the new ATR agreement only call for placing them as "long-term subs"?

Unlike last year's phony agreement that was supposed to place teachers in vacancies, this agreement is horrible. Principals already placed subs in September. They are still hiring F-status employees to help out with ELL testing while many experienced teachers are standing on cattle lines.

Many principals are unable to hire ATRs because they don't have enough money in their budget. They are also afraid to publically come out and let people know about this situation. As a result, there are ATRs temporarily covering vacancies out of license.

At my school we are hiring a new Math teacher. The principal is only interviewing young and untenured. Then again he thought he could get away with 43 kids in regents math classes.
