GRIEVANCE DIRECTOR SAYS MULTIPLE UFT UNION INITIATED GRIEVANCES ON EVALUATIONS MOVING AHEAD

The Minutes from the March 10 UFT Executive Board meeting contain the following paragraph:

Ellen Procida, Director of the Grievance Department, gave a report on all the union initiated grievances that have been filed regarding the new APPR (teacher evaluation) system. All but one of the 17 plus filed have had a chancellor’s level decision but none have received a response from the chancellor. Intent and demand for arbitration has been filed for each grievance. Closing arguments on the lesson plan case will be completed on Monday.

Is anything changing?

Nothing changes. DOE dumps on us. UFT files grievances and we go on being dumped on.

I wouldn't be surprised if the chancellor is using the grievance decision as leverage in making certain contractual modifications. Isn't there a time frame when the chancellor makes a decision on a UI grievance? It seems very convenient for those involved to be dragging this? Then again, I've become very jaded with the DoE and the UFT for the last 12 years.
