MORE PRESS ON THE END OF JAMAICA AND COLUMBUS ALONG WITH VIDEO TRIBUTE

Jamaica High School and Columbus High School may not have been saved but our endings sure have been recognized. Our two schools have a great deal in common.

There is a straight news article that appears in Times Ledger in Queens with full coverage of Jamaica's final graduation.

This video mostly of Jamaica's historic building was produced by physical education teacher Mitch Abramowitz.

Also, there is an enlightening piece in Education Week Teacher by Ilana Garan, a teacher who worked at Columbus and was picked up by one of the new schools in the building.  Ms Garon shows the absolute uselessness of closing schools.

I will move onto something else but it is very hard to get the injustice of what happened to our two schools and many others out of my system.

Its terrible that they are closing it down. Amazing memories.

Love the video of Jamaica - kinda brings tears to ones eyes. I lived in Jamaica Estates in the 70's and 80's when Jamaica was an amazing school and then was lucky enough to get a job there in the 90's and met some faculty member that I will never forget. And now it's gone...

Hey, that was an awesome video. I used to swim at Jamaica in the 60's from Vacation day camp ( remember them- every public school had them). The school was magnificent. My College baseball coach was Hilty Shapiro - a legend at Jamaica. I was at the rally several years ago to support you and got lucky when my own school, Bryant escaped closing thanks to the arbitrator. I wish all of you good luck and hopefully your cherished memories will get you through whatever the DOE bring.
Sincerely,

Wally Hausdorf
