BIRTHDAY PRESENT FROM THE STATE VIA UFT

You will know if it is the month of your birthday if you receive this lovely birthday reminder from the UFT.

Thank you Education Transformation Act of 2015. I do not fault the UFT for sending the reminder.

Dear JAMES,
The union wishes you the happiest of birthdays with friends and family this December.
Those of you with December birthdays must register with the State Education Department using your TEACH account this month to meet the state’s new requirements regarding certification and tracking of professional development hours. The state requires that educators first register online during the month in which they were born.
Those with a permanent or professional certificate must register with the state through their online TEACH account. This registration informs the state that you are keeping your teaching certificate active. There is no fee associated with registration.
How do I register?
Who needs to register?
  • Teachers with permanent certificates
  • Teachers with professional certificates
  • Retired teachers who wish to maintain their certification
Please note: If the state issued your professional certificate after July 1, 2016, the state automatically registered you. Teachers who have an Initial, Transitional A, Transitional B, Internship or Conditional Initial certificate do not need to register.
A new state law affects how you track PD hours
  • Everyone begins a new five-year professional development cycle in the 2016–17 school year.

  • The state requires those with professional certificates to collect and track 100 professional development hours by a state-approved provider in five-year cycles. Professional development hours are formally called Continuing Teacher and Leader Education, or CTLE, hours. For the time being, the 80 minutes allocated for PD on Mondays will only qualify as CTLE hours if it is facilitated by the UFT Teacher Center or the UFT because they are state-approved providers and will supply members with a certificate for the approved hours. See the state Education Department’s list of approved CTLE providers. You have to keep your own records. We suggest putting documentation of workshops you have attended in a CTLE folder.

  • The state does not require those with permanent certificates to track professional development hours.

  • Any professional development hours completed after July 1, 2016 will count toward your 100-hour requirement.
Sincerely,
Nanette Rosario-Sanchez
UFT Certification Special Representative

Hey James, Why would I need a sick bank, just send me to work in these neighborhoods.
Violence across the Bronx and Brooklyn left a man shot dead, and seven other people wounded in four separate bloody scenes Sunday night.

At about 7 p.m., a gunman shot two men, killing one, after an argument on the corner of E. 175th St. and Weeks Ave. in Mt. Hope. -- the same intersection where a man and woman were killed in a double murder in July.

One man, 41, was shot once in the head and died on the scene.

The other, 25, is in critical condition at St. Barnabas Hospital later Sunday night, after the shooter blasted him in the jaw, right eye and back, police sources said.

Cops were looking for a Hispanic man in his 30s, wearing a black jacket, who ran east on Weeks, police sources said.

“This block is known for violence. When you're raised in an environment of violence, you adapt to it,” said a friend of one of the victims, who identified himself as Michael Garcia, 31.

Garcia described his friend as a “neighborhood person” who worked at a Bronx Foot Locker store to raise money for his three children.

Police have not yet released either man’s name.

Back on July 25, a would-be good Samaritan who separated a fight between a man and a woman on the same street corner returned to kill them both because he felt the man was “disrespecting him,” police sources said.

Cops arrested the alleged shooter, Luis (Crazy Lou) Chacon, 37, on Oct. 28, charging him with killing Yajahira Duvere, 37, and Beramy Garcia, 33.

A month earlier, on June 11, a 32-year-old man was shot to death on E 175th St. and Monroe Ave., less than a block away.

Shortly after 7:30 p.m., a 21-year-old woman was shot in the leg as she stood at a bus stop on the corner of W. Kingsbridge Rd. and University Ave. in Fordham Manor, cops said.

A group of teens sped away in a silver minivan, and police believe the victim had gotten into a fight with them earlier, sources said. Medics took her to Jacobi Hospital. She’s expected to survive.

In Brooklyn, a fight between two groups of men inside a building on Knickerbocker Ave. near Jefferson St. ended with four men shot just before 6:20 p.m., cops said.

Two of the victims -- a 65-year-old man shot in the buttocks and a 26-year-old man shot in the leg -- went to Elmhurst Hospital, cops said.

Medics took a third victim, a 32-year-old man shot in the arm, to Kings County Hospital.

A fourth victim, 25, showed up at Kings County Hospital, shot in the leg.

Police are looking for three men who fled the scene in a gray minivan.

Earlier Sunday, a 25-year-old man who tried to claim a parking spot outside the Hells Angels’ East Village headquarters sparked a brawl that ended with him being shot in the stomach early Sunday, police sources said. David Martinez moved a traffic cone placed outside the Third St. clubhouse near First Ave. about 1:20 a.m., leading to an “all-out brawl,” police sources said.

Cops believe the shooter was a “prospect,” not a full-fledged member, of the notorious biker group. Martinez, 25, was expected to survive, cops said.

Anyone notice that our lovely Teachers Choice inclusive pay check doesn't include CAR info?

Rumors are now going to go everywhere that the UFT negotiated away our CAR.

Back to the topic at hand: No big deal for me. My birthday was in July. I "registered" with the State. Took 10 mins. Since I have a permanent license I don't have to do anything else. (I am literally the ONLY teacher at my elementary school with a permanent license). The UFT should tell teachers that they also have to notify the State if they change addresses or change their name due to marriage. From my understanding the state can bring you up on charges if you do not notify them of address change or name change.

They havent denied the CAR thing...

Anonymous said...

Nor confirmed anything. Tell them how disgusted you are.

CAR rumor is going to get big soon. UFT better either fess up that it is a possibility or shoot the rumor down asap and state that it is emphatically false. They are either going to negotiate our CAR away or it is going to stay as is. I really, really, want to hear detailed information from those who started this CAR rumor. What is it that will exactly possibly happen to our CAR?

They would never confirm till 100 percent done. They would simply deny if it weren't true. They haven't, and we are screwed again. But don't worry, medical goes up in July and we will get a few pennies of retro in October.

Isn't CAR a component of our contract? In other words any changes to the CAR would have to be initially negotiated by the UFT but then must be ratified via a vote by the rank and file. Is this the case? The shocking thing is that there are a lot of older Unity members who have ton of days in their CAR. They are going to throw all of that away?

No vote, just like when TDA fixed changed.

TDA is not part of our contract. (It is a voluntary program) It is not voted on by rank and file if I am correct. CAR however is a component of our contract and thus must be ratified by rank and file.

TDA is guaranteed at 7% from the NYS Legislatrue. Only they can lower it. It is not voted upon by UFT leadership or UFT rank and File. It was at 8 1/2 percent at one time in NYC becuase we kicked in that extra money. Randi gave it away and allowed it to be reduced to the state minimum of 7% in exchange for a new tier. In other words, TDA is not being changed unlessit is brought up in the 2017 NYS constitutional convention vote and then it would go to a referendum to NYS voters. (CAR on the other hand is a NYC/UFT contract issue and could be changed via negotiation AND RATIFICATION by the rank and file) If I am wrong with any of this info, please correct me.

I truly hate the UFT leadership. I am my schools CL and early in the school year DR's and other special reps were sent out to every school in my district to hold chapter meetings to explain CTLE hours. The person (who I will choose not to out) couldn't have been more direct and clear in stating that in school (extended day time PD) would count. He said very clearly all you have to do is add the words CTLE approved to the sign in sheets and you will be fine. Everyone sighed in collective relief and were made to think no big deal. Then I read in Bob Mann's organizer the same thing you just confirmed directly from the UFT, everything the special rep said was BS. I am personally furious.

Shifting ever so slightly I just read somewhere that the UFT might be negotiating giving up our sick days and CAR!!?? That is a giant WTF.
