HELP WANTED QUEENS HIGH SCHOOLS; EXPERIENCED TEACHERS NEED NOT APPLY

My friend and fellow blogger Chaz had a piece on Monday exposing Townsend Harris High School for putting an advertisement for a new teacher on Indeed.com. Clearly, Townsend Harris wants someone from outside the New York City public school system. Well, this is not unique.

Here is an advertisement for another Queens High School looking for two teachers from outside the system. This school doesn't even imply that they want someone from inside. They are direct.

This came on email.

"The High School for Something or Other" is seeking a 9th and 10th grade Social Studies teacher and a 9th and 10th grade ESL teacher for one year positions. Candidates should be new to the DOE, as these are one year positions. (bold added by me)

Interested applicants should be flexible, empathetic, collaborative and enthusiastic about teaching a project-based curriculum. The ideal candidates will be able to design curriculum that enables students with a broad range of abilities to succeed, learn, and sustain motivation.Bilingualism is a plus.

I won't expose the actual school to protect the innocent and not so innocent but you get the idea. Experienced teachers need not apply. Absent Teacher Reserves would seem like good candidates for these positions but instead they will hire new people and excess them after a year to add to the ATR pool. Is anyone minding the store?

Why isn't the UFT doing something? I just got a notice it's a $50 co-pay for a urgent care visit that was free last year. Undefined medical savings for the city are starting to have a real impact on the trivial pursuit of the slow drip of our interest free loan to the city.

We reported on the latest Healthcare concessions back on June 9th.

Pardon my French, but fuck this. fuck the DOE and fuck the UFT for not doing a damn thing about this nonsense. No school in the DOE should ever post an ad for teachers outside the system unless there are no candidates without the proper license to fill it. Lastly, why hide what school this is? Freedom of the press means you as a writer should expose this situation to all who read.

The UFT is in cahoots with the DOE in getting rid of experienced teachers.

Particularly interesting to me is that "one year position" thing. Don't we still appoint people to, you know, jobs?

Does anybody know if not voting for the agreement of ATRs with the DOE violates the statutes of the UFT?

Can a PERB complaint be filed against the UFT by not having members vote and ratify the secret agreements for ATRs?

Because nobody applied to be an ATR, it means that the DOE remove you in bad faith, and now because of the budget ATRs cannot find permanent positions. Isn't this discriminatory by itself?

Why are these frivolous observations done in disvantageous conditions by Field supervisors even allowed. Did we vote on this? Why is out rating officer signing a rating sheet and we never met them before? It is definetly a time for More to take action.

I don't want to reveal the school because that would pretty much reveal my source 8:05 pm. I don't think the school is that important right now. It's the substance of the ad that is the issue. The discrimination against experience.

I wonder if the press would care about this.

Why aren't we filing a complaint on the policies that put us in this position. We were removed from our positions, and now they want to get rid of us.

Secret Agreements cannot be negotiated, and rules cannot be changed in the middle of the game. Now More can do something about discriminatory policies that has put many experienced teachers in the trap of ATRs.

Maybe FariƱa should leave too because she is costing too much money.
