NON-TEACHING POSITIONS POSTED ON OPEN MARKET NOW

A reader checked out the Open Market Transfer Plan  system this afternoon. The Open Market goes from April 15 through August 7. Here is what was discovered:

Good afternoon James,

I'm not sure if you saw, there are FINALLY positions posted on open market today. Hundreds of them, but all social worker and psychologist positions.

I'm wondering if there is something going on behind the scenes to support one psychologist or social worker in every building (in addition to the push being made for a nurse in every building). Just wanted to make you aware. By the way, there are zero teaching positions. A handful of paraprofessional positions.

Any thoughts folks?

As a teacher- i am glad to hear that - the push for a social workers and psychologist in every building.

I agree but where is the money coming from for these positions?

It is another scam which will change nothing. How many billions a year go into the doe and everyone is failing?

SW/Psych delegate here.. no news on this, quite a surprise. My guess would be this is related to the 60 new school psych lines that were created this year. There was huge turnover and most were untenable. Further, it could be related to the thousands of incomplete evaluations right now, massively breaking federal law. Psychs classify kids with disabilities and that, in turn, is a major source of federal funding, as we all know...

714,

Kids in my class aren’t failing. I’m passing everyone. I’ll be retiring in a year or so and want no problems. Lol

Everyone is failing. Not one single success. Not one student goes to college and if they do it is due to cheating. 100% failure. Glad we have someone giving us the news.

As a social worker who follows the open market like a hawk every day every year, it's the same old schools (generally the bad ones) posted with openings and there's no difference in the amount from last year at this point. The only difference is that they usually trickle in sooner than now but as per my UFT social work rep, they made a decision to release them all at the same time this year. But they are nothing different or more special than every year. Believe me, I wish they were. In fact, I'd say they are less and worse. I reviewed them all as always. Just wanted to share. I appreciate that you include social work information on your blog.

Yeah, a waste of money. The GCs in my school do nothing but come to me and tell me I have to pass everybody be cause they are having problems at home.

I am a GC. A GC cannot tell a teacher to pass students. A GC can inquire on how a student is progressing and provide intervention/support.

Document your outreach efforts, work provided by teacher and work that has not been submitted. If there are cases where you may have concerns, you can reach out to admin/GC/other teachers to check if student in question is submitting work in other classes and if there are any known circumstances the student may be experiencing (e.g. tech fragile, deaths in family/friends, illness, care giver role, lack of understanding the work, etc.).

Administrators are encouraging teachers to give few NXs as they will need to be cleared up (summer school, Fall).

Use good judgment.

GC, At some schools the rules are shredded daily by administration. Yours is thankfully not one of them.
