DE BLASIO CONSIDERS VACCINE MANDATE FOR NYC TEACHERS; COVID VACCINE EXPECTED TO GET FULL FDA APPROVAL IN A FEW DAYS

This is from silive.com:

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- During an appearance on WNYC radio Friday, Mayor Bill de Blasio said that next week the city will start laying out detailed plans for the return to public schools, while it also considers whether to require teachers be vaccinated for the coronavirus (COVID-19) with no test-out option.

As of now, teachers -- like other New York City employees -- must either be vaccinated or get tested weekly for the virus.

But when host Brian Lehrer said some parents are calling for the testing option to be eliminated, de Blasio said his administration is considering it.

“We’re actively looking right now at different actions we could take in terms of the schools,” he said. “So, right now, as you know, it is a vaccine or test. We’re looking at additional options right now.

“We’re talking to the stakeholders about it. There’s a lot of energy out there for a larger mandate, and that’s something we’re considering quickly.”

This blog supports the mandated vaccine for employment for anyone legally eligible to receive the vaccine as long as there is a medical exemption.

This news may influence the mayor's decision: Pfizer is expected to get full FDA approval in the coming week for their COVID vaccine for those 16 and over.

Politico:

The Food and Drug Administration is on track to approve Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine for adults as soon as next week, three people with knowledge of the matter told POLITICO.

The long-anticipated announcement would make Pfizer's Covid-19 shot the first to receive full licensure from the federal government, a milestone in the nation's year-and-a-half pandemic battle.

It would also come as the Biden administration grapples with a resurgence of infections fueled by the Delta variant — a worsening situation that has prompted a redoubling of efforts to vaccinate the roughly 85 million Americans who have yet to get a shot.

The available Covid-19 shots have long been considered safe and highly effective. But Biden administration officials are hoping the full approval, which would apply to people 16 and older, will spur a wave of vaccinations among holdouts who have waited months for the FDA to put its formal stamp on the Pfizer vaccine.

Spare us, please the dark web comments on how the FDA process isn't on the level. Don't waste my time.

PREDICTION: As soon as the FDA approves the vaccine which will most likely be Monday, Deblasio is going to mandate it first for teachers, then for the rest of the municipal workforce. The UFT will not fight this but the NYPD, NYFD, etc, will raise hell.

And then will come mandated boosters ad nauseum.

Hey Anno 1:22, we are not "anti-vaxers", we are pro choice as to what the f*ck we do with our bodies. There are a ton of silent teachers in NYC who not want to be vaccinated at this time. Just wait till DeBlasio forces the NYPD to vaccinate. They have a less that 50% rate that has been steady ever since the vaccine became available The corrections department also has a very low vaccination rate.

Pfizer Covid-19 Vaccine Expected to Get Full FDA Approval Next Week
Full authorization could lead to more employers requiring vaccinations

The Food and Drug Administration is expected next week to grant full approval of the Covid-19 vaccine from Pfizer Inc. and partner BioNTech SE, according to people familiar with the planning, an action that could spur more vaccination requirements by employers and encourage more people who are hesitant to get vaccinated.

The two-dose shot was first cleared in December by the agency on an emergency use basis for people 16 years and older. The emergency designation allows for products to be distributed during public-health crises based on the best available evidence.

Opponents of mandatory vaccinations have cited the emergency approval as grounds for not requiring inoculations, so full approval is expected to lead more businesses and institutions to require mandatory vaccinations.

238.. I have an idea for you. Don't move away. Just stop watching cable news. The daily life of most people is pretty normal and the vast majority don't believe in extreme left policies. Try it for a month and see how you feel.. (I wish I could say a similar majority rejects right wing extremism, but I'm worried that's not true. But you're leaving because of left crazy, not right crazy, so relax, you don't have to go)

"In states like Florida, so many people are sick that there is a disaster movie quality, alongside the cheerful 'covid is no big deal' narrative..."

"Those terrifying scenes are being enacted across the southern half country and in some other states - people dying, thousands of children in quarantine days into school, pediatric hospitals overflowing, pregnant women dying as staff desperately try and deliver their babies..."

"The problem is that some of the desperate and dying and their families are still adamant against vaccines and masks. For politicians setting their caps at the Trump base and its wealth, they have difficult line to walk..."

"The Democrats have a much bigger problem than the Republicans, because they are in charge during the covid resurgence. And their heavy focus on vaccination as the only needed mechanism of response, and their blame of the unvaccinated have left them with a very serious problem."

"The math is completely incontrovertible. With the vaccines we have, with the high transmissibility and lowered effectiveness of Delta, and with likely waning of effectiveness over 6-8 months, there is no way for us to vaccinate our way out of this."

"You can reduce deaths and hospitalizations, but the only way to control covid is with vaccination AND contact tracing, masking, air cleaning, lockdowns, limits on non-essential activities and avoiding crowded indoor spaces..."

"As awful as it is, you could deal with this - we have vaccines, the capacity to give everyone good masks, mechanisms to clean air and make places safer, the ability to change some of our habits and practices..."

"The problem is that we have two strains of leadership (and the general populace) who have implicitly made a medical issue into a fully politicized one..."

"For the left, vaccines were supposed to solve the problem, and when they didn't, the unvaccinated were at fault. The burgeoning rage against those who didn't vaccinate is not going to help things..."

"On the right, the narrative is that false, a minor inconvenience and a way of controlling and limiting one's freedom, a faux-collapse covering for the real one. And that's a story that's harder and harder to sell as the bodies pile up and pediatric hospitals fill up..."

For all sides, there is a central, underlying, shared assumption - this thing was supposed to go away when they wanted it to. And they are ALL going to be very, very angry when they fully realize that it didn't, it isn't, and it won't for quite a while..."

7:37, thanks for not forcing your choice on someone else. I'm curious why you assume the unvaxxed are working remotely. My experience was that the ones who were desperate for the vax the most were the remotes. A poll Bill Maher referenced a few weeks ago found that a majority (I forget the percentage) of the vaxxed fear getting seriously sick whereas only a small percentage of the unvaxxed are similarly fearful.

There are healthy people who suffered long-term effects from COVID. I myself am in my 20s. I am a healthy weight and height. All by blood tests have always very health and in-range. I got COVID March 2020. I couldn't breathe properly for 2 weeks. I didn't go to the hospital because I was scared to be separated from my family. I figured if I die, I'll at least die with my family by my side.

I had (and still have) long-term side effects.
1) Loss of smell. I started getting that sense back this past year.
2) Shortness of breath. Things like taking the stairs leaves me panting. Even teaching would leave me out of breath, especially double periods.
3) Brain fog (aka difficulty thinking or concentrating). For the remainder of 2020, I was in a bit of a mental fog, forgetting things easily, zoning out. Sometimes I would be in a conversation and forget what the conversation was even about.
4) Dizziness and fatigue. I definitely feel a greater need to lean on something, even if standing for a short period of time.

I consider myself fortunate though because the above are all manageable. There are people who have died from this and they'll never be here on this earth with us.

A family friend died a few weeks ago. Not from COVID, from a sudden heart attack. Super healthy guy. Left behind kids and his spouse. Left everyone shocked and it's still hard to believe he's gone. I bring this up because life is so short. A lot of us on here spend way too much time arguing and it's pointless. Why? Well, first we're all anonymous so not like this is going to make any impact or change. Second, all it does is get everyone riled up, angry, and nasty. It's so dumb. We should be kind to each other, to ourselves. I sense a lot of anger from some posters and I mean, why. Why are we all arguing? For what? For all we know, we might not even wake up tomorrow. Tomorrow isn't guaranteed to anyone. Heck, even the next minute isn't. Why waste the little time we have getting angry and fighting with strangers? Spread kindness to yourself, to those around you. Spend time with your loved ones. Treat every minute like it is your last and don't say things you'll regret. It could be the last thing you say.

God Bless Everyone and if you haven't, give your loved ones a big hug and kiss. Let them know you love them. Because tomorrow isn't yours to claim.

@8:20 I'm not assuming they're working remotely, because there isn't a remote option available at this time. But there are those on this blog who are advocating for it, saying that if one becomes available it should be extended to the unvaccinated (not necessarily because of medical exemptions). I'm not surprised of the Bill Maher survey, and I don't think their wanting to work remotely is driven by their fear of getting sick. I just think they don't want to deal with in-person supervision, and enjoy working in their pajamas, and that's based on the comments they've made on this blog.

I'm unvaccinated and I was in person during the entire time schools were open. I'll get the vaccine when I am good and ready. Unvaccinated teachers are not the ones advocating for medicals to work from home. In fact, I don't think anyone is advocating for any teachers to work from home these days.

Anonymous said...

11:52 I don't know if the unvaccinated teachers are the ones advocating to work from home, but on this blog teachers have most certainly advocated for a remote option for unvaccinated teachers. I really doubt that's coming from vaccinated teachers. Some have suggested it should be extended based on seniority (since the unvaccinated can catch and spread it too). I asked one of the more vocal posters on this issue for his vaccination status but he didn't respond.

From the post above "And their heavy focus on vaccination as the only needed mechanism of response, and their blame of the unvaccinated have left them with a very serious problem. You can reduce deaths and hospitalizations, but the only way to control covid is with vaccination AND contact tracing, masking, air cleaning, lockdowns, limits on non-essential activities and avoiding crowded indoor spaces..."

How in the world is this Democrats' fault and when have they called for vaccination as the only needed mechanism? They are the ones who have tried to implement all these things but Republicans wailed to the heavens about it, and are determined that you can not tell them what to do, all the while celebrating that there is another surge under Biden, when they are not whining about it.

The connections and relationships between the politicians, government agencies, FAANG (facebook, Apple, Amazon, Netflix and Google), and Big Pharm has me very concerned about everything CoVid.

Perhaps we could spend less time fighting with each other and take a greater look at how these companies, entities, and people have placed money before the lives of people.

The truth and answers are available; the spin is so great it is just leaving everyone super dizzy.

"Nashville radio station SuperTalk 99.7 WTN confirmed Phil Valentine's death in a tweet Saturday.

Valentine had been a skeptic of coronavirus vaccines. But after he tested positive for COVID-19, and prior to his hospitalization, he told his listeners to consider, “If I get this COVID thing, do I have a chance of dying from it?” If so, he advised them to get vaccinated. He said he chose not to get vaccinated because he thought he probably wouldn’t die.

"Phil Valentine was a visionary for the conservative movement, and he made an enormous impact on the lives of many Tennesseans,” U.S. Sen. Marsha Blackburn tweeted. “My deepest condolences and prayers are with Phil’s wife, Susan, and his family. May they be comforted and surrounded by love during this difficult time."

Oh sure, he really had an impact on seeing to it that a lot of Tennesseans didn't vaccinate themselves.

"Two weeks ago, only two or three children a day would come into Dr. Nick Hysmith’s hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, with Covid-19, usually ones who were admitted for other reasons, like broken bones.

This week, he is seeing as many as 28 children under 18 a day, some of them landing in the intensive care unit."

"In Alabama, where pediatric cases have started to rise, an average of 43 children a day are in the hospital with Covid."

"most of the older children being hospitalized are unvaccinated teens and that it has been difficult having families walk their children through ICU-level care.

“In our profession, we’re called to be near suffering. So we’re right where we want to be. We’re here on the front lines serving in this pandemic,” he said.

“But I do have to say it does wear on us knowing that so much of this suffering was preventable.”

Weeks later, Rodriguez and her husband died after testing positive for COVID-19. The couple left behind four children.

"She spent her whole life against vaccines, and then before she was intubated, she asked doctors for the vaccine, but it was too late," Jones told USA TODAY."

"Jones said Rodriguez's last plea was that her family made sure her kids received the COVID-19 vaccine.

"She said, 'I need my kids to get vaccinated. Please make sure,'" Jones said. "It was too late to save her life, but she wanted them to be safe."

Lydia Rodriguez, 42, died Monday, two weeks after her husband also died following COVID-19 related complications. Lawrence Rodriguez was 49."

(AP) — Healthy and in their 30s, Christina and Josh Tidmore figured they were low-risk for COVID-19. With conflicting viewpoints about whether to get vaccinated against the virus filling their social media feeds and social circles, they decided to wait.

On July 20, Josh came home from work with a slight cough initially thought to be sinus trouble. On Aug. 11, he died of COVID-19 at a north Alabama hospital as Christina Tidmore witnessed a doctor and her team frantically try to resuscitate her husband.

“She would say, ’I need a pulse. ’I would hear, ‘no pulse,’ "Christina Tidmore said through tears. “They were trying so hard.”

“Nobody should go through this. He was only 36 and I’m 35 and we have three kids.”

“Josh was completely healthy, active, not a smoker.” He would have turned 37 on Saturday.

Doctors say they are seeing a spike in cases among young adults and children as the highly contagious delta variant sweeps through unvaccinated populations. Medical officials say there is conflicting information on whether it makes people more severely ill or whether young people are more vulnerable to it, but it's clear the contagiousness means more young people and children are getting sick."
