PICTURES FROM INSIDE NYC SCHOOLS; LATEST COVID NUMBERS FROM NYC SCHOOLS

Is school in NYC officially going to be called Michael Mulgrew-Bill de Blasio's daily super-spreader event?

My two kids want to be in school in-person. I get it but are we just going to convince ourselves that everything is normal no matter what?

Midwood High School

Fort Hamilton HS

For those who would like to see the stats for COVID-19 in NYC schools after day 3 of the school year, here they are.

Here is a copy of the email from my daughter's school:

Dr. Michael Osterholm in his weekly CIDRAP podcast said "schools, schools, and schools are in the crossfires of this pandemic." He pointed out that the pediatric number of deaths was worse than in any bad influenza season. He noted, "We are in uncharted water." He also stated that NYC and Los Angeles are the key areas to watch currently to see what is going to happen next with the surge in COVID cases.

Maybe we can mostly dodge Delta like we avoided an Alpha surge in the spring. I hope and pray we can.

Just a thought on parenting during COVID. We’ve heard James express concern about sending his kids to school. I recently heard an anti lockdown, anti vaccine mandate father express concerns because if his H.S. son wants to stay on his sports team, he must get vaccinated. He doesn’t want his healthy son vaccinated but he doesn’t want to deny him his connection to his HS team. James struggles because his kids want in person learning. Both fathers confuse me. If you believe school is dangerous keep your kids home. If you believe the side effects of the vaccine are too risky for healthy athletic teenagers, don’t vaccinate your teenager. Throughout history kids have had to make much greater sacrifices than remote learning and quitting school sports. I think of my 16 year old great uncle who lied about his age and enlisted during WWII. Today’s teenagers would be better off if they learned a thing or two about sacrifice and backing up their parents who have legitimate concerns on both sides of the argument. But these lessons are not being taught by their parents.

There is no remote option. Parents are at a huge disadvantage because of this.

if you're young and healthy, how would the vaccine change that? you'll just be young, healthy, and vaccinated.

My son attends Fort Hamilton HS. That picture that is posted is a typical snap of any time the bell rings at that school. He said you can not change direction in the hallway. You just have to keep going because there are so many people and there is no space. The only time it is not like that is before his first class; which is at 7:20am. He told me that if I saw the amount of people that are in the cafeteria during lunch I would cry. It is unbelievable. He does not have lunch at the cafeteria (thank goodness). P.S. not everyone keeps their mask up, including the teachers. Typical class size is 34 and everyone shows up.

The school received so much "covid money" why can't the school rent space so that some classes can be held outside of the building?

Why can't there be a night school option because there is no space during the day?

7:12 because there’s a chance of myocarditis or other negative effects. A weight appropriate, athletic, healthy teen does not need this vaccine. NBA players exempt but not kids in sports? Congress exempt. Congressional staff exempt. Post Office employees exempt.

Parents all over the country are networking for home schooling. I know because I’m helping out in my community as a retiree. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. Parents have to make the choice. Force mask and eventually force vaccinate their kids. Or on the other side send your kids in compliant or even eager to follow mandates and still worry about them catching and bringing COVID home. Or homeschool. Nyc says it will have remote for kids refusing to wear masks. There’s your in. Have your child refuse and get remote. Parents should be making these decisions for their children, not a school board or the mayor of NYC.

To me this is an example of herd behavior. I guess it traverses all sociocultural groups and is more common than we think. Just look at the scene depicted in the pics. I would love to know how many parents pulled their child the next day. If my child was in a school like the ones above, i would pull him. I would take a copy of the pic to the principal and demand remote learning for my child and that his teachers email all assignments of the day to my child until the principal fixed the covid problem in their school. If they don't fix the problem in 2 days I would call 311, the mayor, the gov and the white house and tell them i have a pic. I would say my child will happily attend school tomorrow if this covid petri dish issue is fixed. I would also send the pic to all media outlets. Finally I would also send the pic to all of the guardians of my child's school mates. I'm the protector of my child. I have no faith that any system will look out for my child better than I. Oh hell naw. Those pics depict March 2020 part deux(duh literally). That teacher wearing the half mask would be put on blast tout suite.

Anonymous said...

Amen!

Anonymous said...

I’m not ready to hang the teacher. Is it possible that the mask slipped as she bent over and immediately after photo snap she fixed it? Otherwise I agree with Waiting for support on how she’d handle the doe.

Nice teacher-shaming big fella.
Pic and everything!
Proteacher blog my a**.
What an establishment tool you are.

Anonymous said...

12:10 of course that is possible, but the big question would be.. why use that picture??

Anonymous said...

@9:32 the risk of myocarditis has been proven to be much greater if you get covid than if you get the vaccine.

waitingforsupport said...

@12:10 pm... i hear you but my concern is for that little child in the pic, their family members and all the other children in that classroom. She's a grown azz woman who should have perfected how to keep a little mask on her face. She's had over 18 months practice. If my mask slips down like that it means I need another one. I certainly have no desire to put her on however my priority will always be for my child and the other children in that school. As the saying goes,"She's going to learn today" of the importance of proper mask wearing. Smh

waitingforsupport said...

Ps. Yes it's very possible that she put the mask upon quickly. I would CERTAINLY get more info from the pic taker, my child, etc before putting her on blast.

James Eterno said...

We were criticizing the UFT, not the teacher without a mask on her chin by showing that picture but out of respect for the teacher, we have taken it down.

waitingforsupport said...

Unless the pic was staged I don't understand why it's shaming. The event happened, no? Why are you up in arms about the teacher but not for the students? Do you think all teachers must stick together when we see something wrong? Why don't we stick together when admin targets a colleague for not passing a failing student? This is the hypocrisy some of you display. If something is wrong, it's wrong no matter who is doing the wrong. I don't know what the full story is about this event, i do know that she's way too close to this child's face with her mouth agape. Too much for my liking.

1:03. I haven’t seen a study with that claim that studied healthy athletic teens. No shot for teens if parents say no.

BOOM goes the dynamite: The FDA advisory panel REJECTS Covid boosters for the general population
Scientists finally say enough is enough

Can’t see how the Food and Drug Administration can say yes after this (although technically it can).

Make no mistake, whatever happens next, this is a massive, massive hit for Uncle Joe and two-time Heisman winner Dr. Anthony S. Fauci.

And with no boosters, the vaccine failure will become more and more obvious in a matter of weeks.

BREAKING: on a 16-2 vote, FDA panel rejects plan to administer Pfizer's COVID-19 booster doses to general public.

Anonymous said...

Joe Biden said he'll listen to doctors on COVID, but wanted you to get vaccine boosters next week.

FDA advisory panel today overwhelmingly said NO (2 yes, 16 no). They cited, among their many reasons, myocarditis risks for young people.

A separate vote is scheduled for Wed.

Biden has been in office for 8 months. Why is there such a shortage of Covid treatments that we are now rationing them?

Anonymous said...

Off topic, but, as a history teacher, james, you can't say this is acceptable.

So, 13 American heroes died needlessly, protecting an impossibly dangerous evacuation because of the massive blunders of Biden & Milley.

Then, to “avenge” their deaths, we assassinated 10 innocent civilians, including 7 children.

This Washington regime is irredeemably toxic.

No, this wasn’t a firm rejection of boosters. The FDA just recommended Pfizer booster shots for those 65 or over and those with compromised or high risk medical issues. No mention yet about Moderna or J and J.
It’s inevitable that boosters will be given to other segments of the population by the beginning of winter.

Sorry. There’s a paywall. But they allow you to listen to part of the article for free using the same link.

They do mention fluvoxamine, which many doctors have been using as part of an early treatment regimen for COVID. Let me stop here before I get censored again. DYOR of course. Fact checkers are mostly early intervention censors for lazy people !

Vax for kids and booster are more nuanced that allowed to discuss in us. Some parts of the world only vac 1 shot for teen boys. What is proper dose size based on weight and young age? What about those already infected with COVID. Only recently allowed to bring up at all.

Waiting you assume the teachers you insult give a shit about these students who just get passed and that we’re so afraid we have to boot lick. I don’t give a flying fuck about rude students who don’t want to learn. It’s no big deal to pass them and forget about them. No moral compromise required to give my administrators the grades they want. We’re in agreement, the DOE and me. So are the voters of NYC. They keep electing people with the same pass em along policies and although many a protest has been held, can’t remember one where parents demanded we fail more of their children. teach the students who want to learn and call it a day.

Anonymous said...

@2:30 We know you guys don't give a shit about these students. Imagine if doctors only cared about their healthy patients who followed their advice to the letter. Imagine only teaching and caring about the students who "want to learn". Some students are incredibly nasty, but that's different from one who is rude and pretend they don't want to learn because they can't keep up. Passing failing students is one thing, but many posters talked about having to pass students who have never shown up and that most certainly is bootlicking and pandering to administration. No one has ever put in writing that no-shows are to be passed and people who do that are just stupid and scared to death, because I would not jeopardize my livelihood by passing a no-show.

Anonymous said...

You'd be surprised all that goes into delivering the mail in a timely fashion.

My heart hurts seeing all the students packed in the halls.

waitingforsupport said...

@@230pm. I am not assuming that they care--there is no need to assume anything. Im going by what they say. So if they don't care about the students why should anyone care about them or their family? If they can't stand up for themselves (March 2020) and don't give a f^fk about students:
1. Quit
2. Don't expect real warriors to stand up for your poor behavior
What kind of person chooses teaching and then fold when someone tells them not to teach? Someone who shouldn't be teaching. Let me say it again: If you are playing the game and not teaching, shut the hell up when the DOE/UFT do the same thing to you. What's good for the goose is damn sure good for the gander. waitingforsupport said...

@1:09 pm....
1. According to folks on this blog:
"there is no system"
"people shouldn't blame others for their circumstance" and "we all have problems but we can't just not work".
Dave and you have given up after 22 years? Lmao. Only 22 years. Y'all need a lesson on how to be resilient and maintain your integrity. If i didn't know any better, i would think you sound like those people on welfare who stay on it for decades. They have excuses too but their excuses have more truth than your excuses. If the system provides a horrible education to me and my children and it's healthier and cheaper for me to get welfare--oh well. If you don't want the problem, don't help create the problem. So yes. You are glorified welfare recipients. Dave buys a shiny fancy car when he gets his babysitting check. Work the system is also the mantra of those who make welfare a lifestyle. Im confused because pre Covid so many commenters would rant about the students wearing expensive this or that and the latest iPhone but wouldn't have a pen. Lmao what makes you think they aren't playing the game? Everyone is playing the game of survival. You don't know what some of those parents have. As the late great Aretha sang, Who's zooming who?
Remember Dave and crew: "don't hate the player..." you figure out the rest. The system has made a lot of people frauds.
