X-MAS COAL IN ATR STOCKINGS FROM DEPARTMENT OF LABOR

Earlier this week, I received a letter from the Federal Department of Labor rejecting the ATR Chapter Election appeal.

For those interested in their reasoning, the DOL argued that even though the UFT Delegate Assembly is constitionally the highest policy making body in the UFT,  a review of the minutes of DA meetings shows the DA didn't make much policy. Therefore, the DOL won't rule on DA elections.

By that logic, Congress didn't do much legislating this past year, so why bother electing them?

Our case was a longshot but I am quite surprised by the DOL's thinking.

I have inquired about appealing but my eyes are wide open.  I will scan the letter when I have time if anyone is interested.

    Given our nation's current labor climate, it would be a big fat surprise for DOL to rule in favor of any working person. This situation will only continue to deteriorate with the election of just about anyone of the current presidential candidates except Sanders.

    Sanders is the only candidate that has a handle and true understanding of what the working public is up against.

    The Delegate Assembly is *not* the highest decision making body in the UFT by a long shot. That distinction belongs to the Executive Committee. But, I'm just splitting hairs, since the representation issue remains.

    Really a damning indictment of our union that they recognize what a farse the DA is. Thank you for sharing this. I am sorry. I support your quest for representation of ATRs.

    Read your UFT newspaper or calendar. It says this in the UFT - NYSUT calendar:"The highest policy making body in the UFT is the Delegate Assembly, which meets monthly from October to June."

    I think it used to say the Reichstag was the highest policy making body in Germany before it accidentally burned down.
