Sanders held a press conference on Thursday to claim victory in Monday's Iowa
Here is what the Sanders campaign texted to supporters:
Bernie Sanders WON IOWA with 6,000 more votes. Now let's win NH. Make this one of the best fundraising hours of our campaign yet. Donate: http://bernie.to/IAwin
As Bernie says, in elections, the candidate who gets the most votes wins.
I am usually not a big conspiracy guy but once Bernie's lead in Iowa seemed to be confirmed with real data, then all of a sudden the Democratic National Committee was calling for a recount. Also, why were the small satellite caucuses counted last (pro Bernie and everyone knew it) when they were compact so easy to tabulate and held before the big caucuses? As soon as it appeared that Sanders might really have won, suddenly it was time for a recount.
Iowa does not pass the fairness smell test. It is not incompetence of the Iowa Democratic Party. The party establishment locally and nationally would rather lose to Donald Trump than have Bernie and his supporters take over the party machinery. It looks like they will back recent Republican turned Democrat oligarch Michael Bloomberg before Bernie if Biden falls and now surging based on questionable data Pete Buttigieg doesn't resonate.
The new criticism is Bernie didn't increase the turnout much in Iowa compared to 2016 or he didn't get as high a percentage of the vote as he got in 2016. Forget that there were only two candidates running against him back then but there are eight running in 2020. Media is also not publicizing how the Sanders campaign was hugely successful reaching out to the minority community in Iowa to increase that turnout.
If Bernie wins by a lower than expected margin in New Hampshire, we will hear about how it is really a loss. We will also be reminded how he won a much higher percentage against Hillary in New Hampshire in 2016. I am certainly not the first or only one who sees the huge anti-Bernie bias. We have to ignore the noise. Might be time for another donation.
If the Bernie crew does withstand all the garbage the Democratic Party and media elite as well as Donald Trump and the Republicans throw at them, a better country with some trust in its institutions just may emerge. Let's hope.
Did I mention that entrance polls in Iowa showed that roughly 6 in 10 caucus goers favor single payer health coverage for everyone. That means one insurer for primary healthcare: the government. If someone gets sick, all of us take care of that person. What a concept. 32 of 33 advanced nations cover everyone. The United States as the wealthiest nation should join that club.
But how will we pay for it? Bernie's plan calls for a 4% tax on middle class people and a higher rate on the wealthy with money that employers save by not buying health insurance being mandated to go back to employees. Let's say that figure is too low and it really needs to be an 8% tax. Right now NYC pays about $20,000 a year to Emblem Health for each of us who choose HIP or GHI. If a teacher making $100,000 a year paid $8,000 for Medicare for All, the city would not have to pay anything but instead they would have to give that $20,000 back to each employee. We would be up $12,000 and with no copays, deductibles and we could go to any doctor.
I do not agree with everything in Bernie's platform and I am much more of a social democrat than democratic socialist but Sanders is by far the best candidate out there for working people.
I am speaking for me here and not ICEUFT.
Mulgrew is for Biden, James is feeling the Berne. Anyone know who Portelos is backing?
ReplyDeleteFrom Bernie
ReplyDeleteEven though the vote tabulations have been very slow, we are now at a point where 97 percent of the votes have been counted and we are winning the popular initial vote by some 6,000 votes.
In other words, some 6,000 more Iowans came out on caucus night to support our candidacy than the candidacy of any other candidate.
And when 6,000 more people come out for you in an election than your next nearest opponent, we call that a victory.
In a contest with voter turnout of approximately 180,000, and with eight strong candidates competing, a victory margin of some 6,000 is decisive.
Further, in Iowa there is a realignment process whereby people who supported a candidate with less than 15% in the room can cast a vote in a second round for a different candidate. In that post-realignment vote we are ahead by over 2,500 votes.
Two more teacher unions support Bernie.
ReplyDeleteI'm honored to have the support of @OaklandEA and @UTRichmondCA. Together we are going to make historic investments in education and transform our public education system.
Sad to say this job cannot be recommended to our students. Tier VI are treated like sewer rats. Let's be real how many of the 37% will hit 15 years or 20 years 8-10%? The UFT had to make it nearly impossible for the Tier VI since the Tier 1 pensions were incredible and Tier IV are solid.
ReplyDeleteI cannot see the DOE lasting another 10 years if changes are not made. If anything, we need all DOE teachers emails and start sending emails regarding uniting at a place and time to structure a way to speak with UFT of problems of the utmost importance.

Teachers often get excited over our supposedly amazing pensions. Bear in mind that we spend our careers making 3 to 5 times less than similarly educated people in private industry, and they don't have to contend with even a fraction of what we are subjected to. The pension is really just a deferred compensation plan - a way of reimbursing you for the money you should have been paid while you were working. To phrase it another way, receiving the pension doesn't mean we're coming out ahead. In reality, we're just barely breaking even.
Mayor Pete declares victory with no votes and Bernie as always a class act, waits. Pete rises and Bernie stagnates in polls while Bernie won Iowa. The media bullshit. If Bernie wins NH with Biden and Warren votes going to Buttigieg, then Bernie will be in a real good position.
ReplyDeleteMayor Pete may have many things going for him, but his education agenda is not one of them. If he were president, he would continue the failed Bush-Obama agenda.
ReplyDelete...on education, he is a stealth corporate reformer.
You dont like 3.6% unemployment?
ReplyDelete@ 11:41 i prefer 0 unemployment. Get rid of Archie Bunker to make America great again.
DeleteNot impressed with employment levels if it means people are earning crappy low salaries and having to work multiple jobs.
DeleteVote for Bernie. His Green New Deal means hundreds of thousands of manual labor infrastructure jobs.
Better jobs, those will ... hate to evoke the words...
Make America Great Again.
Bernie 2020, AOC 2024.
I could never vote for a candidate who is pro-abortion. That takes out all the Dems for me. Why can't there be one democrat candidate who thinks killing babies is wrong? Not one pro-life democrat? Ugh!
ReplyDeleteBernie The Marxist that by his own admission would use executive order would take at least 50 % of America's wealth in tax and drive American corporations back off shore to compete with slave wage third world products...Leads this ship of fools! Bernie Hated Millionaires until he became one last election cycle now hates Billionaires! Pretty good for a fraudster that has never had a job outside politics?
ReplyDeleteMany lousy low wage jobs with a $1 trillion dollar deficit. Women have a right to do what they see as right with their own bodies. Onc a fetus is viable, that fetus has rights.
ReplyDeleteOnce that baby is born the Republicans want to make sure they get lousy care and then go into shitty schools.
ReplyDelete"Put real money into our schools,” she pleaded. “Put real money into housing. Put real money into health care. Put real money into the future of our children. That’s how we build the America of our best values.”
ReplyDeleteGood grief.....that's the answer of act "big winner" for the night? The federal government spends over $4 trillion per year, $1 trillion of which it doesn't have. Throw even more money at all of our "systemic racism" problems? These are the mindless nostrums of a child. If this is the "big winner", then were a circling the drain of stupid.
@7:39 not just pro-abortion. pro post-birth-abortion.
ReplyDeletethanks margaret sanger for killing fetuses of color by the millions.
I want freeeee ice cream and I want it nooowwwww!
ReplyDelete0% tax rate for Amazon. All legal. That's what you support. Bloomberg, Bezos and Trump look at people like 8:17 as useful idiots that keep them in the money.
ReplyDeleteLook at Bloomberg's net worth and how it went way up while he was mayor. Reading some of the stupidity that comes from the comments here I see where that line that the masses are asses comes from.
ReplyDelete8:22 is all for welfare for the rich.
ReplyDeleteThe Walton family of Walmart and many other billionaire-owned large and profitable corporations also get richer because of taxpayer support for their low-paid employees. The Walton family of Walmart is the wealthiest family in the country with a net worth of over $160 billion. This one family has owned more wealth than the bottom 40% of Americans. Meanwhile, just like Amazon, Walmart pays its workers wages that are so inadequate that many of them are forced to depend upon public-assistance programs, at a cost of some $6.2 billion a year to taxpayers in order to survive.
The fast food industry is another major recipient of corporate welfare. While the co-owner of Burger King, Jorge Paulo Lemann, has a net worth of about $25 billion, low wages at this fast-food chain cost U.S. taxpayers an estimated $356 million a year. And it’s not just Burger King. McDonald’s workers are actually encouraged to sign up for government assistance— meaning the company fully acknowledges that it pays its employees wages that are non-livable.
Yeah pour "real money" in to our schools?
ReplyDeleteWe spend more per student then any nation.
You can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink. This is the parents' fault. Yall pay me to teach yall kids. I'm sorry if yall messed them up beyond repair.
Their lack of values is yall fault.
Their inability to read, write and add is the fault of my colleagues who passed them along to me.
Corporate Welfare
ReplyDeleteCorporate welfare is one manifestation of the special‐interest spending problem. The budget contains many subsidies that aid some businesses at the expense of taxpayers and the overall economy. The government spends about $100 billion annually on corporate welfare, according to a 2012 Cato study. That amount includes direct grants and loans to companies, as well as indirect aid for industries.
Here are some of the corporate welfare programs in the federal budget:
• Farm subsidies. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) spends about $25 billion a year on an array of subsidies for farm businesses. Roughly a million farmers receive the subsidies, but the payments are tilted toward the largest producers. The largest 15 percent of farm businesses receive more than 85 percent of the subsidies. USDA data show that the average income of farm households was $134,164 in 2014, which was 77 percent higher than the average of all U.S. households.
• Rural subsidies. The USDA subsidizes rural businesses through the Rural Housing Service, the Rural Utilities Service, and the Rural Business‐Cooperative Service. The programs, which cost about $6 billion a year, subsidize financial institutions, housing developers, utilities, and many other types of businesses — from car washes to clam harvesters.
• Energy subsidies. The Department of Energy spends more than $4 billion a year on subsidies for conventional and renewable energy. The subsidies include loans and grants to energy companies, and indirect business support such as industry research.
• Small business subsidies. The Small Business Administration provides subsidized loans and loan guarantees to businesses, which costs taxpayers about $1 billion a year. Other federal agencies favor small businesses through preferential procurement rules and other methods.
• Export subsidies. The federal government provides aid to exporters through the Department of Commerce, the Foreign Military Financing program, and the Export‐Import Bank. The latter agency provides loan guarantees and other aid to some of the nation’s largest corporations, such as Boeing and General Electric.
• Aviation subsidies. The federal government spends billions of dollars a year on the operation of the air traffic control system and grants to commercial airports. But reforms in Canada and Great Britain show that airports and air traffic control can be separated from the government and self‐funded.
• Earned income tax credit (EITC). The $70 billion EITC is usually thought of as a subsidy for low‐income workers, but the program also subsidizes businesses. The EITC is designed to increase labor supply, but to the extent that it does, it reduces market wages for low‐income workers. In effect, the program allows businesses to hire workers at a lower cost, with federal taxpayers picking up part of the wage bill.
This chapter focuses on spending for corporate welfare, but the government also subsidizes businesses through other means. International trade restrictions protect certain businesses at the expense of consumers and businesses that use imported goods. And in numerous industries, regulations protect established firms from competition by creating barriers to entry.
Another example of corporate welfare through regulation is the Renewable Fuel Standard, which requires that transportation fuels contain biofuel, primarily corn‐based ethanol. The standard is a subsidy to corn farmers and the renewable fuels industry. It costs motorists about $10 billion a year, raises food prices, and does not benefit the environment.
Give me my corporate welfare or give me death
ReplyDeleteNow let's talk about defense spending waste. From Rolling Stone
ReplyDeleteDespite being the taxpayers’ greatest investment — more than $700 billion a year — the Department of Defense has remained an organizational black box throughout its history. It’s repelled generations of official inquiries, the latest being an audit three decades in the making, mainly by scrambling its accounting into such a mess that it may never be untangled.
Ahead of misappropriation, fraud, theft, overruns, contracting corruption and other abuses that are almost certainly still going on, the Pentagon’s first problem is its books. It’s the world’s largest producer of wrong numbers, an ingenious bureaucratic defense system that hides all the other rats’ nests underneath. Meet the Gordian knot of legend, brought to life in modern America.
But blame some poor woman in the Bronx for your troubles. Trump and Bloomberg love you.

That free shit is really bankrupting the country. Uh, no it isn't.
I agree 7:39. For many spiritual people of all faiths this issue makes us the ATRs of the Democratic Party. I left the UFT and I just left the Democratic Party. We are completely ignored. This is from an opinion piece in the NY Post about a die hard Dem who left the party, “The straw that broke this camel’s back was Pete Buttigieg’s extremism. Here was a mainstream Democratic candidate suggesting, at one point, that abortion is OK up to the point the baby draws her first breath. If the party was willing to go all-in on the most volatile issue of our time with a position held by only 13 percent of the population, it was time to take no for an answer.”
ReplyDeleteSNAP, AKA food stamps costs about 2 percent of the federal budget. Averaged $124 per month (or $31 per week) per person in benefits.
ReplyDeleteThe poor are really stealing. Give it five minutes and someone will complain in a comment about some kids at his school wearing $500 sneakers with the latest i phones. There is an underground economy. Shocking! It is nothing compared to the cheats at the top like Bloomberg, Bezos, Gates, etc. ripping us off.
@11:30 am...Finally, someone with a wider lens who is speaking the truth.
DeleteLet's cit the military down to size. With that we could pay for lots of Bernie's programs with zero tax increases for the middle class.
Delete1 question you'll never hear from MSNBC: "How will you pay for the endless wars in growing numbers of countries?"
waitingforsupport is THE PERFECT handle to represent the leftist mindset. And if support doesnt come quick, the insults and slurs with fly, maybe while donning a ski mask to show how brave they are.
ReplyDeleteAnyhoo, back in the real world, I am likely to vote D because I want equal distribution of misery, except for the ruling aparachniks, who will grow rich like Bernie et al.
See, freedom is scary, but free stuff...where do I sign?
@12:14 pm: You're a thief. You are a weak example of a teacher and human being. If you give out grades and pass undeserving students with a 65, you're a thief. You are not earning your big salary. You're a thief with no integrity. You're also a coward. You don't respect yourself but toss around negative comments about your students and folks of color. I am a person of color. I have never been on welfare but if I needed to be on it, you better believe that I would apply for it. If I needed to be on it for a lifetime so be it. Chalk it up to my ancestors being exploited for 400 years by lazy azz people who traveled to Africa for workers instead of doing their own work. Before you point fingers and label people please examine the past and continued history of this country. If you are passing students, consider yourself someone that Im waiting for support from. Waiting for someone to support my efforts to eradicate folks like you from the educational system because all you're doing is F=#&ing up lives for generations to come. You're the type who thinks you're great because you work in the inner city and maybe have an associate who happens to be of color. Leftist rightist centrist labels labels and more labels...add coward and morally corrupt...Mr Mrs Ms or non binary Anonymous.
DeleteAnd yes...im waitingforsupport with PRIDE baby with PRIDE. Happy black history month to you.
There are rich people who get into politics, and there are professional politicians who, somehow, get rich "serving the public."
ReplyDeleteI need to lose some weight so Ima go to Venezuela or some other socialist paradise.
Oh wait, thats the US fault--we will do socialism right, this time around. Trust us.
It's true you cant fix stupid.
Warren thinks she's a role model because she refuses to take money from wealthy donors or PACs.
ReplyDeleteI wish she had that same concern about taxpayers.
Bernie now has to apologize for writing successful books that real people actually want to read. Democratic socialism is not communism.
ReplyDeleteWarren and Klobuchar are intellectually dishonest if they say he's a millionaire.
DeletePlus, he's not a socialist.
He's a social democrat of the stripe of our northern European allies.
Old Major is suddenly a "successful" millionaire whereas other million/billionaires aren't for doing the same thing: providing a product or service that people want. Go figure that one out.
ReplyDeleteRedmangood.
Orangemanbad.
For Old Major et al, I see no difference between them and every other "democratic socialist" saviors: Mao, Stalin, Che and a host of others who know better than I do how I should live my life.
Is it Bernie's fault people want to read his book? He still pays his taxes unlike Bezos and he isn't trying to buy the election like Bloomberg or use the position to enrich himself primarily. His plans are to help common people. I can't wait until he wins Tuesday.
DeleteJust attended IB PD. A young teacher indicated teachers with + 15 years of service don’t understand how to serve students
ReplyDelete(and they should not work for the DoE any longer.) when these teachers blame the lack of parental involvement is the main source
leading to students behavior/ academic problems. The whole room applauded her.
Your thoughts?
Was she IB towards veterans educators?
ReplyDeleteWe can either step up and do the hard work of organizing our coworkers and other rank-and-filers -- or we can sit back and let the billionaires continue to run our lives.
Truth!
DeletePitch Bernie to your coworkers--during lunch or adterschpol.
At least the people who are accepting corporate welfare do not make our schools unteachable and our subways unbearable and our cities unlivable
ReplyDeleteThey create charter schools that take money from us, and this encourages academic fraud so schools can compete to stay open. That's just the start. They price people out when they gentrify. I could go on. The billionaires and their greed are big causes of our problems.
ReplyDeleteagree with 700 pm. They arent mugging, shooting, killing, raping, destroying, threatening...
ReplyDeleteI’ve been getting letters almost every other day that says “may lead to disciplinary action,” I am not doing anything wrong. I have been cooperative ever since I started. There’s issues wit another teacher and ever since I been trying to seek support from my principal, everything gets turned against me and now it’s been constant letters for meeting that “may lead to disciplinary action” I’m losing sleep, I have anxiety, I wake up at random hours to toss and turn. On top of that they expect me to have carry a heavy work load and have things ready in a certain time period. They take 6 preps out of my week for other things and still expect to me to have everything ready by when they say. I am only 5 months in as a new teacher. What are thoughts and opinions.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds as if you have been receiving “disciplinary summons” letters.
DeleteHave you been receiving “letters in the file” after these disciplinary meetings accusing you of either incompetence or misconduct?
Take a look at “Frequently Asked Questions”:
http://dtoe.org/wp-content/uploads/Principals-OLR-FAQ.pdf
Have you been having any problems with your observation reports?
Please answer this, without name calling. If welfare, food stamps, section, 8 etc is for desperate people, who need food and shelter, who need to out food on the table, and dont want to be living on the sidewalk...Is it appropriate to have an $800 iphone and many pairs of $200 sneakers? Those are certainly not needed to live life.
ReplyDelete@7:42: Welfare is support for those who need the support. Some folks are on welfare and travel overseas. Some people even have houses. Other folks buy Iphones and overpriced sneakers, etc. I have a question: Do you feel as strongly about the welfare...I mean tax incentives companies receive to build apts that I certainly can't afford? Let's discuss the outrageousness of that? Let's discuss the idea that some of us are collecting a "high salary" but not earning it. Any outrage? Are you disgusted with yourself for being able to pay your mortgage or rent with money you didn't earn? Some of you have mentioned being a "babysitter". I don't know any babysitter who earns over $50 an hour. I don't know of a babysitter who can keep his or her job while letting their charge burn down the house. Let's be real here folks. Let's be REAL. If you are not teaching but are collecting a salary, stop pointing fingers and judging those on welfare.
DeleteFor those who don't think it matters
ReplyDelete"Politico Morning Education reports that Betsy DeVos has become a huge hit among Trump’s devout followers, those who despise the American government, public schools, and taxes for any services. It doesn’t mention whether the base wants Trump to get rid of the government-funded military, the government-funded highway system, NASA, the FAA, the Food and Drug Administration, Social Security, Medicare, the National Parks, and the rest of what their taxes pay for. I’m afraid to ask."
The billionaires certainly are killing, mugging and raping. They just do it in a different way. 7:42, There are people who take advantage of the system. When someone like Trump does it, how many bankruptcies has he had, do you complain? How many people did he RIP off?
ReplyDelete7:42 only complains when it is black people cheating.
ReplyDelete742 asked a question. Never said black. He asked to explain, if people are so needy, how/why are they getting such extravagant luxury items. Those are not needed for survival.
ReplyDelete@7:42, @9:54 and @ anyone else: Maybe the itemsbare gifts. Maybe they are borrowed. Maybe they saved up for it? Idk. Why are educators not teaching? If we didn't enter education simply to hand out packets or to simply issue out 65s, why are some of you doing it? Why? Why? Is it because you are afraid? Does this fear supersede your integrity? Some people may question your decision making.
DeleteThere was an answer given that people game the system. Billionaires do it too and get plenty more money per capita than welfare cheats.
ReplyDelete951 mentioned black cheating. 742 never said black.
ReplyDeleteFunny how nobody has answered Waiting for Support.
ReplyDelete*This is written by someone who's preferred candidate isn't even Bernie...but who gets it*
ReplyDelete"If moderate Democrats are serious when they say their only concern is beating President Donald Trump, they should get used to the thought of backing Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.
If you believe in saving democracy, the courts and the planet, and reversing the unrepentant cruelty, corruption and carelessness that define the current administration, you have a duty to at least consider the candidacy of the most popular senator in America, the top fundraiser in the Democratic primaries, and the man who has generally beaten Trump in head-to-head polls for five years now."
@11:09: I try not to respond to hateful, race-baiting people who are "waitingforsupport" instead of supporting themselves. Unless they are legitimately disabled, this is just pathetic and indicative only of a sjw.
ReplyDeleteThroughout human history people had to work to support themselves and their families. Today we instill dependence as a virtue in response to oppression. Lives usually improve when people stop seeing themselves as victims.
But in nyc public schools we teach victimhood.
The DEms have been wrong so much they should be with the DOE because they would get a diploma even with terrible grades.
ReplyDeleteJust to name a few disasters:
1. Kavanaugh Sham
2. Russia bullshit for 3 years
3. Ukraine crap, meanwhile Pelosi and Biden worked for Ukraine
4. ww3 and North Korea nuclear war
5. No CRISIS at BORDER lol! Let's have open borders especially in Texas so we can use them for votes for DEMS. Let's give them licenses, free college, unreal!
If speaker ripped up Obama speech it would be RACISM all the BS "media" stations would crucify republicans, when DEMS do it, no problem, lets applaud.
Say what you want about Trump, but he unveiled the Wizard like in Wizard of Oz oh how disgustingly biased the media are. Not journalists, propaganda machines trying to take Trump and his family down everyday. shameful.
@11:56...in nyc schools are NOT teaching. Read the posts. Teaching isn't happening. You can't bring up "human history " without mentioning the foundation of America: white folks using black folks to do their work. It is what it is. I guess you can say they received welfare for over 400 years because blacks did the work that supported ahem, the white families. Now folks are mad?? Now?! Puh-lese. Folks can blog about being mistreated by the UFT and DOE for a few years but want to bash folks who want some semblance of normalcy by wearing $200 sneakers. So. What. You are NOT teaching and collecting coins. Hypocrisy. You're oppressed by the DOE and are whining. Stop seeing yourself as a victim of the DOE and UFT and maybe your life will improve. How about that.
ReplyDeleteHaha. Now they are borrowing cell phones and sneakers. Lol.
ReplyDelete"The poll, conducted from Wednesday through Saturday, finds Sanders with 28% support to former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg's 21%, both holding even with their performance in the previous day's release. Former Vice President Joe Biden lands at 12%, Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren at 9%, Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar at 6%, Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard at 5% and entrepreneur Andrew Yang at 4%."
ReplyDeleteRandi won't be tweeting out this poll's results
ReplyDeletewaiting for support is anti-white and either cnat understand or cant handle the turth. Ignore him.
ReplyDelete@2:40...maybe you're anti white. I don't need to explain myself. Im stating facts. Ignore me or not...doesn't bother me one bit.
DeleteYou can bet your wallet that Randi ‘Money Grip’ Weingarten will endorse Bloomberg - regardless of any poll other than her’s.
ReplyDeleteWaiting for Support has a point. If you are admitting nobody learns anything and you still pass mostly everyone, then you are not doing your job so you are pretty much collecting a government handout. Quit or do something about it.
ReplyDelete@3:33...it's that simple. I don't know why it's so difficult to grasp.
DeleteI failed 63% of my students, by far the highest in my school. I have gone to Sue Edelman multiple times. Dont ever say that about me.
ReplyDelete@4:41 good for you. That's what you're supposed to do, right? Fail those who are not meeting the standard.
ReplyDeleteAre you bragging that you failed 63%? Nothing to boast about.
ReplyDelete@5:41...you hear bragging?
DeleteYes, when you say you failed the most in your school by far and then went to the press and apparently nothing came of it. I am skeptical. Standards yes, fucking over the kid no.
DeletePass those who have earned the grade period.
DeleteI will say that if 63% of the students aren't learning, then you are basically collecting a government handout as you are not getting through to most of the students so you might be doing some teaching but not a whole lot of learning goes on. You contacted Sue but where is the article?
ReplyDeleteI am bragging that I graded honestly.
ReplyDeleteYou guys are unbelievable. You say that people complain but are cowards because pass everyone, all they do is anonymously complain, but pass everyone. This guy says he grades honestly, you say he is bad. Amazing.
ReplyDeleteWhat about the 50% who dont show? That accounts for most.
ReplyDeleteYou made standards that almost 2/3 of the kids could not meet. You are taking a paycheck and mostly the kids do not get what you are trying to tell them. It's all their fault? Sue prints a scandal a week. Where is your article? Maybe you are the kind of teacher the media likes to complain about that doesn't care. You show up for a paycheck. Looks like middle class welfare.
ReplyDeleteGovernment make work. A The perfect example of teachers sucking off the government and then bragging about how few kids actually learn. You are a liberal for sure.
ReplyDeleteSo if one passed 100% but nobody learned...?
ReplyDeleteIf 100% passed, I would be skeptical unless it is a specialized school. If 37% pass, I would be looking in the mirror to try to see what I could do to improve that rate without killing all standards. If it continues over time, I would think it is time to do something different.
ReplyDeleteSome students at specialized high schools cheat...often. Many prep and get into the school.Their learning is sometimes lateral. During a staff meeting at a specialized high school the principal told the staff that the learning is lateral. Assuming that a 100% passing rate is always achieved honorably at these schools is a fallacy.
Delete95% then at specialized high schools?
DeleteWhat is the average SAT score in the city? Reading level? Writing level? Nobody is doing much learning. I wonder why.
ReplyDeleteGet new students
ReplyDeleteMaybe because of a combination of culture of poverty, unskilled parenting and yes some uncaring schools who either set the bar too high or too low. If half don't show for class, what is the school's attendance policy? Yes, kids have to be accountable but so do teachers. If there is no accountability for us and we just present the work and then fail everyone, then ours is a make work job, the very essence of liberalism at its worst.
ReplyDeleteSorry, 6:03, we have to work with the students we have. We are not charter schools, we are public schools.
ReplyDeleteWhen Stuy gets over 90% passing on AP English, that is not cheating, particularly on essays. That 100% grad rate at specialized schools is mostly legitimate.
ReplyDelete@anyone: Can one cheat on the AP exam?
DeleteIt is rather difficult to cheat on those AP essays.
Delete@James Eterno. Difficult, absolutely. Impossible? Nada. When there is the will, there is a way. I've seen and heard many stories about specialized high school students.
DeletePrecisely the point. The minority schools are ripe with fraud, which is the whole city.
ReplyDelete@6:49pm Yes. All schools are ripe with fraud.
DeleteYou are a part of it which makes you a typical liberal. Live off the government, ie the taxpayers and contribute very little if at all.
ReplyDelete@7:03...how do you contribute? Define a typical conservative please.
DeleteI will check back tomorrow for the answer.
DeleteA typical conservative hates and is misinformed about public schools.
DeleteIf the NY Post won't print your story, are you sure it is like you tell it here?
ReplyDeleteA real conservative who believes in small government principles would only teach in a non union private school. Why should the state pay for government schools for kids who if these comments are correct don't want it?
ReplyDelete@8:34: why would a real conservative only teach in a non-union,private school? Have you ever taught for the NYC Doe?
DeleteMost students in the NYC Doe do not behave like they don't want an education. Many students want an education--a quality, challenging education. Do you think they deserve to receive one?
I am 8:34 and I have taught in NYC schools. I like the kids. I found some, not all, of my conservative friends, do not believe many of our NYC kids can learn much. That makes me sad.
DeleteHi @ 8:34...that makes me sad and disappointed. Unless there is some sort of severe learning disability ALL children can learn. Maybe some children are not applying themselves, however I wouldn't go so far as to say NYC kids cannot learn much. In my opinion, that sort od thinking can lead to other thoughts and/or actions about these kids. So, why would you only teach in a non-union private school? Why do you say that a "typical liberal lives off the government"? I only ask because I want to understand your point of view. P.s. I consider myself somewhat of a liberal with some conservative views.
DeletePretty clear that most nyc schools are filled with kids who just go to school to fool around, sneak into the gym, eat and terrorize. And then threaten teachers to pass them
ReplyDelete@9:17pm: if you deduce from the comments on this blog that "most nyc schools are filled with kids who go to school to fool around..." you should also deduce that since the teachers are NOT teaching, then learning isn't happening anyway, right? I mean a chief complaint by teachers is how they are "harassed" by administrators to pass students who do not deserve to pass. Teachers are handing out packets and doling out fake grades. What happens to the students who are truly seeking a way out of poverty?
DeleteThey are the victims. Lost in the chaos.
DeleteBut the White House budget will also propose $4.4 trillion in spending reductions over the next decade, about half coming from sweeping changes to popular social safety net programs. Establishing tighter work requirements for food and housing assistance and Medicaid would reduce spending by $300 billion, the official said. Changes to the government’s student loan forgiveness program could lower costs by $170 billion.
ReplyDeleteWaiting for Support, I am parodying the one or two right wing idiots who comment here but almost always put down the kids. They shouldn't be in public education.
ReplyDelete@12:27: seems like there are closed minded people all around us. I could give two shakes of a rats azz what side of the aisle folks sit on. When adults put down children or anyone else for that matter based on the bs...i speak up and out. If you are paid to teach, then teach. If you are against public education because you think the kids are there to play around, look at yourself in the mirror. You're their to teach but you're not teaching. Move aside and let someone else do the job. Don't collect welfare oops i mean your ahem paycheck because you haven't earned it.

DeleteI totally agree Waiting for Support. These right wing commenters here are welfare cheats.
ReplyDeleteWe tolerate grammar mistakes here. I can't edit comments. Clearly, you are a real teacher to worry about that one Waiting.
ReplyDelete@james Eterno: Cool! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteRife not ripe.
ReplyDelete@prehistoric pedagogue...Ripe or Rife?! Yes "rife with" is the common phrase. However ripe (fully mature/fully prepared) is the word I choose to use to describe the fraud within the NYCDOE.
