Now the remaining teachers on the grade have higher registers.

All these loopholes are truly amazing.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15921757.post-82424815093448350352009-10-10T10:58:30.517-04:002009-10-10T10:58:30.517-04:00Schools all over the city are becoming overcrowded...Schools all over the city are becoming overcrowded and we still have 1400 or more ATRS waiting to be placed in a regular job.
This week 10/3/09, District 20, 21,31, etc in Brooklyn switched ATR teachers around. They took elementary schools ATRS and placed them in Junior High schools as ATRs again. Most of the ATRs that went to JH. do not have the appropriate licence or experience to work with this population. What is the value of switching ATRs around without giving them appointed jobs? When are we going to end the overcrowding of the schools?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15921757.post-51499499407240314982009-10-08T17:41:53.064-04:002009-10-08T17:41:53.064-04:00The Contracts for Excellence funds have been provi...The Contracts for Excellence funds have been provided to city schools by the state. Much of it never sees the classroom. Most interesting, of course, is that Bloomberg and company have ignored class size, including promises they made, not only during the bust, but during the boom as well. Had they changed policy as the economy went south, it would be one thing. But that's not the case. In fact this administration has received hundreds of millions of dollars for class size reduction.

When Bloomberg starts to reexamine no-bid contracts and sweetheart deals for real estate moguls I'll give arguments like the one above a second look. But I'm not holding my breath.NYC Educatorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12188066345722781723noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15921757.post-44188264453354390112009-10-07T17:39:15.273-04:002009-10-07T17:39:15.273-04:00This seems like Never-Never Land stuff, no matter ...This seems like Never-Never Land stuff, no matter how well-intentioned. With budgets being slashed and more deficits to come, how're you going to do this?

I work at a high school which is becoming more and more overcrowded. Private school students are returning to public school because of the economy. When teachers begin to be laid off in New York, as in DC, class sizes will go up further, or they'll just continue to cut programs.

Teachers need to wake up to the reality that the time for patchwork remedies is long past. Rather, teachers can support the Homeowners and Bank Protection Act and get it endorsed by the union and then work for its adoption nationally.

Class size and other education issues can only be meaningfully addressed when we have pulled out of this overarching economic crisis.

We should not ignore the imminent collapse of the United States dollar and focus on side issues. Please see today's post by Michael Fiorillo of analysis by a former Reagan Undersecretary of the Treasury which stresses the gravity of the economic situation.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
