Have you ever been FOR anything. ICEUFT exist to be against. It is who you are.
There is great money there. We are already 5 years in. We can't turn it down. The ATRs are survivors. They will remain in the system. They are the strongest people I know. They know how to beat the DOE at their own game.
There are some unanswered questions. First, I would like to see a sample calculation of total retro pay to make sure that each of these 2% retro raises is truly retroactive to the 2009-11 contract. Second, will the lump sum amounts be pensionable in the years they are added to salary?For example, if a member plans to retire in 2020, will the three 25% retro payments in 2018, 2019, 2020 be added to salary,such that the member's pension will be based on a significantly higher figure than top salary? If so, then contract is a great deal for veteran members who are contemplating retirement in 2020.
WOW. Per session get no raise in 2009, 10, 11, 12. Then gets 40 cents in 13 and 40 cents in 14. What happened to the 4 plus 4? And the retro of the 4 plus 4 for those years?
I wonder if we'll ever get an answer to the question of whether or not the post ratification 8% will ever make it to us. We'll probably have to vote without even knowing even though it will make a $20,000 difference to many and at least $10,000 for all.
We will all get full retro, the UFT website (http://www.uft.org/proposed-contract/pay-and-benefits) says a first year teacher this school year will get $13,000 in retro, which clearly implies that they are "earning" the extra 8% all the way through the end of the contract. We will get all of our money unless we resign. Only problem is the delay and no interest.
According to the salary schedule the 1% and 1% increases that we will see in Sept. are based on our 2008 salary. What happened to basing the 1% and 1% on the salary after the 4% and 4% raises? Will that be included in the retro? I wish everyone would ask these questions and get answers before they vote.

So we really are getting FULL retro as if we were making the 8% extra from ratification until 2018? That definitely makes things look better for many. I'm afraid people will throw the ATR's under the bus knowing this.

When I look at this contact, I can't help thinking of Wimpy "I'll gladly pay on Tuesday for a hamburger today" This contract is bad for the past, present and future. My motto when in doubt say No!
It appears for those of us retiring this year or next the FAS will be based on the current salary chart. This means that we have worked the past five years for only a few pennies that will be added to our pensions. Mulgrew and company exceeded our worst expectations all around with this contract proposal. Vote No and sent him a message.
ATR's that deserve a job will get a job. Personally over the last 5 years, I have met hundreds of ATR's. I can safely say at least half of the ATR's are borderline nuts or insane. So Im glad something is finally being done. Some have no business being around adults, let alone children. The other half that were wrongly targeted, or their school shut down, will find jobs wiht no problems if they are competent. We personally hired 3 ATRS in the last year alone and they are doing great! So let it play out. Hopefully the crazies will get bought out or terminated, everyone else will get placed,then they will be responsible for their duties like the rest of us.
Wow! The union is very generous with our money, by giving the city a ten year interest free loan plus short changing us on our raise. The city negotiators and Lawyers must of had a good laugh at our expense. As my mother would say "they are laughing all the way to the bank on this one".
Not clear on lump sum payment if retiring by 6/30/14 and 6/30/15.Will those retiring 6/30/15 get full payment at retirement. Also will pensions be recalculated to take into account the raises 4 + 4%
Besides voting no on this terrible contact can we empeach Mr. Mulgrew ? We waited for him to add insult to injury, shame on you and your staff are they waiting to 2020 for their raises?
I have not seen anything in writing about pension, retirement dates; the salary chart doesn't look like two 4% raises to me, it looks like peanuts. Who can even give correct answers to these questions?

I can see coming a new Mayor in 2018 crying about the city budget and requesting a delay on the payout, Because we will definitely will have a new Mayor / union leader after this contract. Anyone that votes yes deserves what they get "THE SHAFT" ! This intentional delay of the details is fustrating potential retirement calculations , why ? Who is benefiting from this action. Is the city trying to save a few more dollars on our retirement.
Your right if we accept this without every detail explained we will certainly have buyer's remorse. Is there any truth that Michael Mulgrew was a used car salesman ?
Everyone in my school is outraged at this proposed contract. We all wish there were a way to recall Mulgrew for serving us this garbage. We are insulted and demoralized. The UFT president thinks we are a bunch of naïve dolts who cant do simple math. This guy is unqualified to be the UFT president.
Let me understand this contract, from 2009 up to 2015 we get 1% + 1% less the 2% of our salary we have to pay for our medical if we earn over $60,000, I guess this is the new math ! Wow our union leader must thing we are real idiots.
After looking at the breakdown this is a terrible deal, as a CL I've heard the cries from my members and I have to agree. I'm also a disgruntled unity member who will be voting no. Five years for this? Not happy!!! :-(
Do substitute teachers get retro. It looks to me like we will not. I subbed in 2009,2010,2011,2012 and the salary schedule for subs starts at 2013. The raises are equivalent to those of a Bangladeshi factory worker but I would like to know if I am being treated like everyone else. First the snow days now the snow job. We voted for these guys ! My vote is NO! We would have to work another 10 years receive the full fas benefit for retirement. This contract will deprive new retirees over$100,000 during their retirement.
So let me get the Unity spin straight....If an ATR behaves, they have nothing to worry about. In other words, they should not speak up at union meetings or even think about filing a grievance if they are wronged. If a principal says jump, they better respond "How high?'
As for the nuts...they are also in-service teachers too who got away with murder thanks to the UFT.
So why not make a fair eval system for both sets of teachers??
Wondering about rumor that if someone retires on June 30 this year, they get the lump sum. This sounds like another divide-and-conquer tactic... and distracts us from asking about calculation of final average salary. I was told by email that raises would go toward pension, but now it looks like way less than 4% and 4%... Thanks James and everyone battling out there...
According to UFT website (May 7) anyone who retires will have their pensions recalculated to include the retroactive raises - see quote
"Pending ratification, the contract provides that members who retire on or before June 30, 2014, will receive payments in full for the retroactive raises in one lump sum. Members who retire on or after July 1, 2014, will be paid the retroactive money on the same schedule as that of in-service members: beginning Oct. 1, 2015, and ending Oct. 1, 2020. Your pension calculations will include all of your retroactive raises when you retire."
Also, it says "IN SERVICE" members will get retro. In service at time of payment or in service this year? If I choose to quit 6 months from now, I should get retro since work was already done
This contract is insulting and disrespectful to our profession. Everyone must Vote "NO"!!!!!! If you vote Yes and ruin our careers/profession, everyone will wait another year just for this awful contract kick in. Mulgrew needs to goooo
