An overwhelming 95% of Chicago Teachers Union members who voted said yes to authorizing a strike. The date set by an almost unanimous House of Delegates is October 11. Members of the CTU are being told to expect a long strike this time around.
Here is the CTU Thunderclap called Fair Contract Now.
It looks like the political climate for the CTU might actually be better this time around as compared to when they last went on strike in 2012. We support them in their struggle.

Taylor Law in NYC=no strikes for NYC teachers.
ReplyDeleteAnd Mulgrew doesn't want to ruffle feathers. Would rather have us suffer, financially and via students abusing us...
ReplyDeleteTaylor law is used as an excuse to do nothing. We used to defy it when we were a real union.
ReplyDeleteWhen transit dudes went on strike, their union heads got thrown in jail. Mulgrew does not have the balls for that.
ReplyDeleteWhy would he now? We got a 9 year contract, he says everything is "smooth" and he gets along with mayor and chancellor.
ReplyDeleteMy take on our current situation is that Mulgarten has an agreement (either explicit or tacit) with De Blasio/Farina, namely, that if they lay off the wholesale school closings (for the time being) and tone down the anti-teacher rhetoric (for the time being), then the UFT will give them and their underlings carte blanche to act as they please in the schools, with no interference from the union.
ReplyDeleteHow else to explain the UFT's total abdication of its responsibility to defend the working conditions of teachers, and protect them from arbitrary (if not sadistic or sociopathic) behavior by all the AdminBots and opportunists out there?
DEMOCRAT mayor screws Chicago teachers. DEMOCRAT mayor screws NYC teachers.
ReplyDeleteI guess I will vote Republican so I can get screwed worse.
ReplyDeleteYeah Giuliani loved us so much.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget George Pataki, Dean Skelos, and Flanagan. All friends of teachers. I don't think so.
ReplyDeleteAnd BloomKlein. We has 20 years of Republican mayors.
