Great news: The Chapter Leader from Central Park East 1 elementary school has been completely exonerated in her termination hearing. According to the information I was just given, Marilyn Martinez will be back in her classroom on Monday.
I am meeting tonight with people from another school who are planning on fighting back by going to the Executive Board on May 22.
We can win folks. What it takes is union solidarity.
It starts with one school and then another, and another and another. Pretty soon the sleeping giant that is the UFT rank and file may awaken.
UPDATE: There is an in depth analysis of the situation at CPE1 over at Ed Notes. Please read it.
Hooray. Excellent way to start the weekend.
ReplyDeleteIt was about time that a little bit of common sense came back, but we cannot count on Mulgrew and its corrupt UFT.
ReplyDeleteFact is Mulgrew - you can say we all put enough pressure on him -- did play a role behind the scenes in demanding Marilyn be returned to the classroom. That the issue was about Marilyn supposedly giving a parent advice on getting into the school was the cause of a removal and 3020a - with Garg luring in a parent and taping her - while telling parents she had no role in the removal of Marilyn - should cause her instant dismissal and charges filed against her. She did the same with the other teacher who has been out of there for 15 months - using a more serious charge of corporal punishment -- also made up - the parent of the child testified for the teacher.
ReplyDeleteThis is where the UFT is failing -- failing to call public attention to these outrages.
That's why we are here Norm to expose the outrages.
ReplyDeleteAnd at the Spring Conference today, all they did was say how wonderful it is, and pat each other on the back, laughing all the way to the bank as i get abused at work every day.
ReplyDeleteI dont think they'll be laughing soon after that Janus case
DeleteI'm just curious, did she have a private attorney or a Union attorney?
ReplyDeleteI believe she had a NYSUT (union) attorney.
ReplyDeleteHey 1:34, I too attended the spring conference and I have to admit Rev. Dr. Willam Barber gave an incredible and amazing speech. I too may not always agree with our union but I know a union is be better than NO UNION AT ALL. We need to work together to change the things we don't like. That's just my two cents.
ReplyDeleteWow, what piece of shit Mulgrew is. Read the Ny Post. It was the CSA who sued and won, after that, deblasio decided to give permits to teachers as well. I cant wait to stop paying dues. And the uft wanted credit...
