SHOUT OUT TO PERIOD 8 CLASS

I respect all of the classes I teach and have taught over the years but sometimes there is a class that stands out as ideal because of a great mix of students.

I'm fortunate to teach kids that I look forward to working with. There are some challenges for sure but each day my day at Middle College High School ends with what has so far been an absolutely wonderful class with articulate left leaning, right leaning, apolitical and just curious students who were somehow grouped together. I just throw out a topic and they take the discussion to another level on a daily basis. We have a good time and we all learn from each other.

The kids googled me yesterday and some discovered this blog. I told them I would say hello so I am keeping my word.

As for the adults, once again, I'm asking the grown up readers, particularly those who are understandably frustrated by not working in a positive classroom environment, to please refrain from using some of the intemperate language that is used in the comments. This is an open blog that anyone can read and I know for a fact that some of the pupils I work with occasionally drop by.

    1. Welcome students. I wish you a great deal of success. Please work hard, respectively challenge things that are of concern to you, respect others and push yourself and your teachers to get the best education. I am an educator and I simply adore teaching students. If you do see something on this blog that's offensive please know that for every negative "educator" there are two educators who see the best in you.

Remember to make sure you are really getting a challenging education and not just packets and a "fake" diploma. Open eyes and stay woke.

  2. Sorry, James, but people like Anonymous 10:32 are why the comments need to be assertively moderated.

I'm all for free expression, too, but what do people like this add to the site? They degrade the discussion, make racist insults against students (Lord help the kids trapped in a classroom with people like this) and give ammunition to all those out there who attack us.

  3. i havent seen any racist stuff here thankfully. but there are sjws who are sensitive to "hate speech" (opinions that differ from their own).
    hey students!

  4. 1032 was not needed, however, some complaints we make are valid, and just because certain groups cause most of the problems, doesnt mean racism, it means fact, and behavior changes are needed

  5. Lots of people are offended by many things. All I have to do is say "there's more than two genders" and a flurry of people will be triggered.

Awesome for you though, it's always great to have that one class that just reminds you why you teach in the first place.

  6. I have James as a teacher for 8th period and i'm extremely blessed. I realize the work he puts in each day and it takes a lot of patience to handle teenagers. All teachers especially him should be rewarded because they take time out of their day and family after 2pm to help us learn and better understand the material. Thank you James.

  7. Anonymous 10:32, with that attitude, I recommend you leave the teaching profession ASAP. That kind of bitterness doesn't serve anybody well.

  8. He also helps us learn throughout the day obviously and keeps us interested in the world today. He is an amazing teacher and anyone who disagrees is simply wrong. I meant to say he along with many other teachers work from 8 am to about 2 pm then choose to stay for the needs of children that aren't even theirs. I thank all teachers for their hard work because it is underappreciated.

  9. How abouthe piece of garbage that stabbed a student to death? Was he a graduate of restorative justice? Was it the cops fault?

  10. I think he was bullied. This was revenge. You must be the first commenter. If not, there are two teachers with some real issues out there.

  11. A word to the wise is sufficient apparently does not apply here.

  12. So he isnt a piece of garbage? Or should he have gotten more restorative justice? or more welfare? Maybe if you were the one he stabbed you would be more concerned....

  13. If he was being bullied, then the murdered was a piece of garbage as well. Either way, pathetic working conditions?

  14. Hey guys, i know some of us dont like to discuss, or bring race in, but this is yet another example. What if it was an innocent teacher?

  15. I changed my mind. The student stabbed is no victim, he was so nasty, offensive and disgusting, he made someone reach a breaking point and react. Funny part is, students all the time tell teachers "You cant do nothing to me"...well, a student did something after taking the abuse.

  16. We can only offer thoughts and prayers to the families but the tragedy is not what the post is about.

The posting is a recognition of a wonderful group of kids. These way off topic comments here are offensive.

I do not have the time nor inclination to censor what are clearly inappropriate comments as some earlier comments recommend.

Some teachers are our own worst enemy.

    1. There is NO way 7:10am is a teacher. NO WAY. ID isn't required here so my bet is that this is just a troll with definite mental health issues that have not been properly addressed.

  20. I have important things to do and I would rather spend my lunch hour doing something else but I guess I have to watch the comments a little closer and delete those that are way over the top.

Please stay on topic and at least keep it relatively clean.
