ATR EMAILS UNION FOR HELP

This came to me earlier today from an ATR who still has not received an assignment for next week. You would think the UFT would be up in arms about teachers who don't know where they are assigned for Monday. You would probably be wrong. Mike Sill is the UFT person workiing with the ATRs.

Dear Mike,

It is bad enough that ATR's are treated in a manner that is degrading and we have to feel that there is a constant target on our back. Now, we have additional stress added as we wait for these assignment emails.

We never know when they are coming or what they are going to say. We still haven't been notified for this week. It is unjust that we are not adequately informed of our assignments. Many of us, need to make child care arrangements and all of us need to make arrangements to commute to work. It is now November 2.

What happened to the placement policy? What happened to making the ESSS system accurate with true vacancies and not ones that are already filled? Many ATR's feel like the union is not supporting them so that they are treated as fairly as every other teacher. We are teachers as well. The other teachers do not have to endure this additional stress and anxiety and workload. Why aren't our rights being protected as well?

Sincerely,

ATR

  1. With all due respect, was this written by a new ATR?

NOTHING HAS CHANGED IN 10 YEARS!

  2. I would venture to say Mr. Sill has been inundated with calls. I just spoke to a high school ATR that's being sent to an elementary school and another that's being sent to a middle school. Most I know, including myself are being sent to Hell High in misery until 1/26/18.

  3. New ATR or not, this type of treatment is inhumane! While the UFT pretends this is not happening, many ATRs are suffering mentally and physically. How much worse will it get before Mulgrew gets off his lazy a--? This is not a temporary problem!

  4. The observations and harassment by Field Supervisors must stop. Most supervisors are coming with an agenda. Thus is not the time to waste resources.

  5. Fidgety, You can't expect Mulgrew to stop the abuse. Only the ATRs working collectively can have any chance of stoppiing the abusive treatment.

  6. What??? The UFT refuses to give ATRS their own chapter! How do you suggest we proceed?

  7. Anonymous 5:58,

There's an old saying: if you can't find a leader (and Mulgrew has neither the desire nor ability to be one), then be a leader.

Organize yourselves, and when you've got a sufficient number of people, send out a press release that you'll be picketing 52 Broadway for the UFT's lack of representation. Then go down there and make some noise.

Being nice and trying to go through traditional channels obviously doesn't work with these people. Maybe it's time to confront them publicly. While I know it's hard to shame them - they're used to behaving shamelessly - they're in a vulnerable position now with Janus approaching, and are more likely to feel obliged to respond if their negligence is being exposed to the public.

You'd be doing yourselves, the rank and file and the Union (though not Unity Caucus) a favor,

  8. Michael is so right. As Billy Bragg said, "Start your own revolution and cut out the middleman." Stop waiting for the cavalry (Mulgrew/Unity Caucus) to come charging in. It is not happening.

  11. It is unbelievable how these Field Supervisors are lying in the observations.

  12. I agree we are all potential ATRS but some of us are in much more danger of becoming ATRs. We should all fight for ATRs. That is very true.

    Contract ends November 2018.

What leverage do we have to abolish ATR? We need to mobilize for that.

  13. Why can't the DOE get each and every one of their teachers and counselors in the schools like they are paid to do?? With approx. 1000 ATRs and approx 80000 teachers, counselors and social workers, the ATR pool is such a minuscule number (less then 1 percent of the DOEs work force.

So I be to ask the question, why is there so much confusion for the less than 1 percent of the work force staff?? Why can't the DOE just get their people into schools to help kids and end the conversation?? Is this political? YEs, the reformers are using the Atrs for political statements but this can be wiped out with just a little effort. Come on DOE, get with the program already geez louise they cannot be this incompetent/

  17. Clear violations of Article 7, 20 and 22b. By refusing to enforce the contract. By refusing to file grievances that are legally legitimate. By creating the ATR pool. By agreeing to field supervisors that are only there to go after veteran teachers. By not allowing a chapter for ATR's. By making us third class citizens. Which per diem subs are being observed by field assassins? By eliminating seniority. By agreeing to fair student funding. By destroying thousands of teachers careers. By agreeing to rotation in a vocation that is built on relationships. By refusing to respond when we are vilified in the press. By telling us that we are lucky to have a job and benefits. By refusing representation in any situation that they should be helping. By theft and denial of services. I can also mention racketeering. They colluded with the DOE to not only create the ATR pool but to assist in the psychological warfare that they the Human Resources enforcement arm of the DOE.
The UFT had sold us out at every turn. The truth is that because of NYS civil service laws they can't have us fired . So all you can possibly say about the UFT is that they pupport to represent our interests and take our money for it. They just hurt us terribly. There is a special place in hell for these sociopathic parasites. I eagerly wait for JANUS. I'm going to keep my money. They need to be starved.
