This is all from NYBATS.
Following NYBATs endorsement of Cynthia Nixon, she sent this letter to teachers. To really make a difference in NY public schools, she asks teachers to place copies of this letter in the teacher mailboxes in your school on Wednesday, the day before the Democratic primary:
Dear Fellow Parents and Beloved Teachers:
I am running for Governor of New York because our children need state leaders that make education the number one priority for all children, regardless of their zip code or the color of their skin.
My opponent, Andrew Cuomo, has refused to comply with an order from the state’s highest court to increase funding to our schools by billions of dollars, has forced schools to use high stakes tests to evaluate teachers, and has consistently prioritized charter schools and private schools over our public schools.
As a proud public school graduate and a prouder public school parent, I will put our children and their schools first. I will:
• End the massive racial and economic inequality that exists in public school funding and provide the funding our schools are owed for smaller class sizes, high quality curriculum, music, art and other critical needs;
• Permanently repeal Governor Cuomo’s teacher evaluation system based on high stakes tests and reduce testing for our children;
• End the school to prison pipeline by eliminating suspensions for Kindergarten to third graders and investing in school counselors, social workers and after school programs.
I am asking for your vote in the Democratic primary for Governor on Thursday, September 13th, and I am asking you to join me in voting for Jumaane Williams for Lieutenant Governor. Together we can give all of our children the schools they deserve.
Thank you,
Cynthia Nixon
P.S. Need to find out where to vote?
And the UFT won't endorse her. Just goes to show that the UFT are nothing more than a bunch of money hungry scumbags who want a "seat at the table" with Cuomo.
ReplyDeleteThe UFT is part of the corruption by letting older teachers become ATRs, and targets
DeleteI hope every teacher that is a registered Democrat goes out and votes for her in the primary. Don’t believe all the hype - she has a real shot at winning, especially now that the UFT hasn’t endorsed her with Randi’s kiss of death.
ReplyDeleteDon't vote for the HOMO, Vote for Cuomo. I am old enough to remember that campaign ploy that then Mario Cuomo unleashed. Just like the son of a "B" Andrew has distributed the recent antisemitic piece of trash his operatives at the NYDC distributed a few days ago. My guess is that the Cuomo campaign realizes this is a real race therefore the mailing. VOTE NIXON, (something I thought I would never say, Dick Nixon still reverberates in my bones). Andrew Cuomo is a lying, corrupt, immoral person. He at times out trumps trump.
ReplyDeleteCynthia Nixon's rhetoric on education is the most proudly pro-teacher, pro-union, pro-public school we have ever heard from a candidate for executive office...and yet NYSUT won't indorse her.
ReplyDeleteMulgrew has contributed to the discrimination against older teachers.
ReplyDeleteDon't vote for her!Don't vote for Cuomo! These Democrats have ruined the quality of life for middle income New Yorkers! Their priority is to gain votes. She will never help the schools. She will eliminate the tests for specialized high schools! Did you read where she said she will put evern more money into schools in minority neighborhoods. There is an influx of money in these schools already! What about the schools in middle class neighborhoods where class size is skyrocketing! She is trolling for minority voters who support Andy! She doesn't care about the middleclass at all! She is just worried about her lesbian agenda. She is COO COO for Cocoapops. Actually vote for her in the primary this way people will either not vote in the general election or vote for the other candidates.
ReplyDeleteThe union endorses who they think will win so that they're not screwed when they endorse the loser and piss off the winner. I kind of understand it, but grow some balls.
ReplyDeleteIf they endorsed Bill Thompson in 2009, he may have won. If unions got on board with Nixon who is pro worker, she might have a better chance of winning. Not opposing someone who is so anti-teacher and anti worker as Cuomo shows the union not only has no balls, but pretty much stands for nothing too.
ReplyDeleteVote socialism!
ReplyDeleteIgnore its brutal, failed, murderous history of misery (and present a la Venezuela; it would have worked if not
for U.S.).
Give collectivism a chance!
Vote Cuomo or Nixon!
...rofl...
Vote Republican and watch your job get eliminated in the public sector unless you are defense based.
ReplyDeleteIt's time to clean house. Get rid of all of them.
