UFT DECLARES, "WE GOT YOUR BACKS."

The UFT says they are rolling out the welcome mat in an article for new members. Here is how they are promoting this piece on Twitter:

The UFT is here to support each teacher beginning this journey. We’ve got your backs and will be with you all the way.

As people working in the NYC schools return to school on Tuesday, our question is this:

Does anyone reading this think the UFT has our backs?

  1. Yeah first to say HELL NO! If they had our back then they would be making sure every teacher in every school understands tomorrows schedule (6hrs 50 min), not extended day. Making sure they know and Principals know they get half the day for preparation. Make sure they aren't forced into voluntary/mandatory meetings and planning meetings during their preparation time. Making sure everyone understands their rights and how to grieve if they didn't get a preference. ETC....... The day they start being proactive and vocal about our rights in a real and noticeable way is the day is the day they have our backs.

  3. Like this is some happy time. Like we are winning, or proud. Most teachers hate the job. Students are both dumb and absolutely immpossible to deal with, total disrespect. The whole thing is a fucking joke. Keep paying $62 per check dues if you are an idiot. Keep up the grade fraud.

  4. Why is the open market a fraud?

  5. They have our back with a knife, just to make sure we continue to pay our dues to support their charmed existence. We are an existential threat to them if we stop paying dues.

  6. Why are NYC public school teachers evaluated 4 times and every place else in NY State it's 2 times. When will this question be answered ? Will it be negotiated into the next contract ? If our union wants do do right by it's members they should meet with the doe and come to an agreement before the contract expires . Come on people , let's get the evaluation down to 2 .

  7. If Mulgrew can not get us a decent raise , he will gloat that he got the evaluation from 4 to 2 ...Fraud at it's best ...

  8. Reads the last post. The raise will suck and you will pay for half of it with healthcare concessions.

  9. They got a gun to our back, pay up or die

  10. I looked for that joke of a UFT President at the parade today. I wanted to tell him face to face to go fuck himself. I saw DeBlasio and thought maybe he was riding Mulgrew down the parade route like a show pony, but no such luck. I’d have a better chance trying to find Bigfoot.

  11. If they had our backs, they would ensure that we get 2 observations this year.

  12. "Watch your backs" is more like it.

  13. Go to the Labor Day parade on Saturday. You can tell Grand Marshall Mulgrew whatever you wish. Need I say anything else about the lousy state of unions in NYC?

  14. What time do we leave today? My school says 3:35

  15. Well, we're stuck here til 3:35 with no way of knowing if it's right because the UFT sucks. I called multiple uft offices and nobody knew and just put me through to a never ending hold for "someone" who might know.

  16. What time did the day start? It's 650 from the start time. Do you have a very late start?

  17. Started at 8. I called the UFT and they said it it was 6:50. My union rep says the "email" said 3:35. This is such a joke.

  18. We started at 8- got out at 2:50. Time to get a new CL.

  19. I got the welcome back email from Mulgoon today. I tried to write him back but the email address will not allow responses on my computer. What balls, what friggin' balls that turd has.

  20. Mmulgrew@uft.org. Good luck on a reply.

If you were forced to do extra time beyond 6 hours and 50 minutes, simply grieve under contract Article 6 and as a remedy ask for monetary compensation.

  21. It's article 6B1(d)(2). I don't think anybody wrote a SBO to say professional development days are extended. The grievance is an easy win. Just ask for money. The admin will stop and you can always settle for them agreeing not to make PD days seven hours and whatever minutes. If you want to really make a statement, then hold out for the money.

  22. Just a little FYI. The new website makes it easier than ever to access the Principal Portal and read the Principal Weekly. You find some interesting stuff in there, like the directive that Tuesday was to be 6hr 50 min. Was in the 8/14 PW. Many Principals don't bother reading it, which makes al the more fun when you can throw it in their face.

  23. Mulgrew should be harassed by a Field Supervisor.
