MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES BY PHONE AT HOME

From Michael Mulgrew:

Dear ,

We wanted to give middle and high school teachers an important update regarding the parent-teacher conferences happening in March.

In an effort keep people safe, the UFT and the city Department of Education have agreed that the middle school and high school parent-teacher conferences in March will be conducted by phone or computer. Parents will not attend in person.

All UFT members who choose to use their own cell phones and computers may conduct the conferences at home or any other appropriate location. Those who do not wish to use their personal cell phones or computers can use equipment available in the school during the regularly scheduled parent-teacher conference hours.

Principals can request that teachers submit a log of calls or videoconferences.

As is normally the case, parents who are unable to connect with teachers during parent-teacher conferences may contact the school to schedule conferences during the weekly Parent Engagement time.

Sincerely,

Michael Mulgrew
UFT President

  3. MMM... So we should avoid contact with parents on PTC days and nights but the children who live with said parents are fine to come in contact with? Don't get me wrong I am glad to stay home and call. But really? C'mon!
Hopefully this also means I get to go home the same time as the kids on the half day PTC.

  4. There's a person in Brooklyn in the Hospital with Coronavirus and the staff didn't know about. Hospital personnel said something about protecting the person's privacy. There are probably kids or at least their parents in the schools who have it. They don't want to create a panic. NYC is not equipped for a large scale emergency like this.

  5. In my experience within the NYC public school system, TDS is far more virulent than Corona. TDS has hate, anger and envy as its first manifest symptoms, followed quickly by violent tendencies. If you display symptoms of TDS, please self-quarantine, turn off the TV and look within.

  8. Do they have Trump Derangement Syndrome in Italy, Iran and South Korea? Viruses are apolitical.

  9. Our policy seems to be to test for Coronavirus as little as possible to make numbers look low.

  11. Not sure if this is being enforced... in our school we are pretty much being forced to stay until 2:20 as usual even if using our own phones in our classrooms we won’t be allowed to do this at home... Sounds like we will not be allowed to leave...so I think it’ll be up to principals discretion....very misleading email...

  12. The email said the doe has decided that teachers may either work at school or at home. The doe overrides the principal. Your principal doesn't trust his/her staff. See your Union rep. The email was very specific. There aren't enough land line phones and computers in any school for every teacher to do outreach at the same time. They can, however, request logs which technically could be made up.
