NYC SCHOOLS DESPERATELY SEEKING RNs

Last week, we touched on the school system in NYC's search for anyone with a college degree to be a substitute teacher. This ad for nurses has been around for weeks according to someone on Facebook.

I have no idea how the recruiting is going but I would like to know answers for these two questions:

●How many school buildings will be starting in person instruction without a required nurse?

●Will the buildings be closed if there is no nurse?

  1. $525 a week for food too? Damn, I'm going to become an RN. Where is the city getting all of this money from?

  2. What a scam. That is more than many teachers make, plus tons of food and hotel and metrocard and signing bonus. And the city is broke. Infection rates are skyrocketing. Great planning. Is this part of the uft 50 point checklist to do after school started? Scabs have been 100% right. Do not show up to work.

  3. And no students will be in school buildings. What a fucking waste. So schools are not ready. Where is mulgrew?

    ReplyDelete
  4. How ironic that Clara Barton is having difficulty getting a registered nurse for its building.

  5. This is why I stopped teaching to go into healthcare.

  6. Still no response from anyone in the uft...

Since it is so safe for staff to enter and stay in buildings...
    Please let us know
Which schools you will be in?
    For how many minutes?
Will you be taking a crowded train to get to and from a school?
    In a crowded classroom?
    With students?
    With students with no mask?
    With students eating?
    With or without proper ventilation?
    With broken windows?
Will you be eating lunch with staff? Staff has nowhere to eat except for standing in the street
    You have abandoned that staff.

  7. To all of you, don't be chumps.

  8. Isn't it ironic how we have a teaching shortage but still teachers in excess?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Stay home you jackasses. How hard is it? You have a sore throat. Go to free advantage care. You stay home 2 weeks, no loss of CAR days

    ReplyDelete
  10. That "weekly food stipend" is likely the IRS per diem rate for business travel. I mention this because this is how those lobster dinners in Albany get paid for too.

It's also a study in how the City wastes money, it could offer a better wage to local RN's but instead is going to pay hotels, travel and per diems. And how exactly is there a teacher shortage existing simultaneously with an ATR pool?

  11. 200k in salary and benefits with no students in the building.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Goodluck with the enxt contract. Five years of 0 plus medical payments plus no teacher's choice. Don't worry, uft has your back. How many staying home tomorrow? How many failing the health screening?

    ReplyDelete
  13. You teachers had best fail that health screening soon. Use those ten free days because once the system goes all remote, you can't take them any longer. Anyone have a sore throat?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Dont worry suckers, mulgrew is going to court soon to get us paid for last spring break. That will cost the city, just for teachers, about 400 million dollars. I cant wait to get that back pay. Arent you happy you didnt opt out like those 3 idiots?

  15. Well planned uft and doe.

  16. I almost feel bad for the principals and admins. Tomorrow morning they will have hundreds of kids in their schools and very few, if any, teachers. They will herd all the kids into the auditorium and separate each by the one seat. They will tell them it is imperative that they leave on their masks all day long. The AV equipment will not be ready, or prepared, as it’s been sitting dormant for over six months or maybe six years. After 25 minutes the kids will start getting boisterous and start getting up start and running the aisles. Then they’ll start wanting to use the bathrooms and it will be pure chaos. Concerned parents that have the audacity to check up on their darlings will be stopped at the door and hear the tale told at 3PM, if the kids aren’t dismissed early because the principals and APs were removed by ambulances for nervous breakdowns. Covid will be the least of any staffs worry.

  17. Yes, and they will be observed all the time with the Danielson Rubric. Now they know how it feels.

  18. The sheep, I mean teachers, will show. It is only elementary open tomorrow. I want to be wrong here so badly. Stand up for your lives teachers.

  19. Each school will not get an RN. If schools can't get the protective gear needed and cleaning supplies, there definitely will be a lack of RNs.

  20. But uft said schools won't open.

  21. Have you not figured out yet that the UFT does not always follow through on what they say?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Have you figured out to stop paying dues if the uft does nothing?

  23. The purpose of this blog is to mend our union representation, not end it. Haven't I made that clear?

    ReplyDelete
  24. And there has been no change to leadership or the abuse we take. How has it been mended?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I didn't say I have been successful but I remain optimistic that teachers are seeing the UFT leadership for who they are. They will not pull you out of infected school buildings. We still need a union as the PSC people are proving at Hunter.

    2. Now that everyone is awake, maybe you will take a stand against what has been STRESSED on this blog: EVERYONE NEEDS TO GET TOGETHER AND VOTE OR DEMAND THAT THE CURRENT UFT LEADERS STEP DOWN. PERIOD. If you want an opt out en masse, start a blog to get it started. This isn't the place. What aren't you comprehending? Opt out. Why is the union doing this? Some folks have been asleep for way too long if you are surprised by the union leadership's behavior. The leadership has allowed the DOE to treat us like sh@/ for over a decade. Now it's an emergency and you want to burn the house down.

  25. You have to ask yourself why they’re open school at all if they’re doing it this way? It’s babysitting 100%

  27. if our schools zip code has an positive test rate of 17%, HOW are we opening tomorrow?! I thought they’d close individual schools if that zip is above 3%.
    @UFT
has not replied to my CLs question. This is beyond comprehension.

I'm saying this isn't the place to try and sway the blog initiator--James. He's stated his position. He isn't the uft president. This is a sounding board for educators. However it's just bizarre that folks are up in arms over his stance. There are many people who don't want to opt out. We prefer getting rid of the current leadership. Not easy obviously. Some people have suggested a different option of removal. Whatever. I understand the frustration and disgust at the treatment. Yes we have been treated like sh#%. It's not new. A call for Opt out isn't currently a consideration so why keep banging that drum? I'm glad that folks are awake now and want change.

  30. Look at the pics from today, little kids at school on top of each other, no distance, out of control, mayor standing there like a fucking fool.

  31. He’s a moron. So are the other three, Mildew, Carranza and Fredo the gavon

  32. The city hides grim numbers/estimates, but make no mistake: they fully know that reopening schools is a policy of planned, “manageable” death for working/poor & BIPOC in NYC, despite all the ultra-cynical talk of “equity.” When liberals kill, they tell you it’s for your own good.

  33. mayor just announced above 3%. not closing schools. Uft silent.

  34. Please post anonymously: I feel gaslit by my administration all the time. They keep assuring families we are doing all the safety precautions, yet day in and day out staff are not wearing masks, not maintaining social distancing. We have a covid case already and still that fake assurance. I want to scream, this is not fair to the families we serve.

  35. DOE Chancellor pushes the point that staff are "required" to report to school bldgs if principals need them in person. This comes after new guidance gave staff more latitude to request remote + principals are scrambling to react

  36. How many public schools are located in these neighborhoods (below) in Brooklyn and Queens?
DeBlasio says the infection rate of 3% means nothing—has to the average of a full week in order to close schools. Once again, the UFT is silent—as another health disaster is about to happen.

    Brooklyn
    11219 Borough Park 5.26%
    11210 Flatlands/Midwood 4.08

    11204 Bensonhurst/Mapleton 5.15%
    11230 Midwood 5.53%
    11223 Gravesend/Homecrest 6.72%
    11229 Gerritsen Beach/Homecrest/Sheepshead Bay 4.
    Queens
    11415 Kew Gardens 3.61%
    11691 Edgemere/Far Rockaway 3.98%

Additionally, one new ZIP code has surpassed 3% positivity:

    11367 Kew Gardens Hills/Pomonok 3.04%

  37. Hey, kids, let's go to school!

Sheep/Dues payers, you do the same.
"For the first time in a while the daily number is above 3% and that is cause for concern," @NYCMayor says of covid positivity of tests done yesterday. Says it's concentrated in 9 zip codes "with a particular problem."

    It was 3.2%.

    ReplyDelete
  38. 3% infection rate for today, I think its 1.38% for 7 day average. When 7 day average goes to 3% we close.....sadly, it's only a matter of time.

    ReplyDelete
  39. He said last night now it has to stay above 3% for a week before he would close down. How quickly his tune changed.

  40. James....

    Please educate your teachers....

Beware! If you log on to any DOE website in the morning(schedula/google classroom/jupiter/ microsoft teams, etc), and leave it open for the day......

ANY WEBSITE you visit while they are open, is recorded by the DOE, with your email attached.

    Big Brother IS watching.

  44. it is highly offensive to refer to dedicated workers as sheep.would you say that to grocery workers and tell them to close down?should we call you cowards?everyone has a reason for whichever option they chose and deserves that their choice is respected.

  45. He is foolishly wasting money which will likely come from our pockets, which makes me angry.on the other hand, part of me gives him credit for the effort-but the monetary cost is wasteful.10 kids in house for 7 classes, three times as many adults, pvt school bus, sweet deals for nurses.BUT WANTS GIVEBACKS.that part is wrong.i feel sorry for the parents.ger them daycare if they need to work...

  46. 221..

If you are trolling websites while you are supposed to be working for the DOE...its called "theft of services".

You've not been around , hove you?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Mulgrew participates in theft of service daily, people still pay him.

    ReplyDelete
  48. When it hits 3, it will change to 5. Then school by school will fall...

  49. Who says you're not checking websites out for class lessons? Anything can relate to a lesson more or less.

Yes....but you'll still need to convince an arbitrator at your 3020A.

    Not a pretty situation.

    ReplyDelete
  51. If they gave every teacher who surfed the web during school hours a 3020a we'd really have a teacher shortage.

    ReplyDelete
  52. @ 4:37 pm
If your DOE email is attached to anything, it belongs to you. Everything NOT work related is subject to a challenge. See 6:23pm

    ReplyDelete
  53. I used to leave my email open accidentally on many occasions. Also if they want to challenge theft of time, how about all those teachers who did next to nothing during the shutdown including me who didn't have classes when the shutdown occurred. I slept late, watched tv and went for walks all the time getting paid top salary for it. Also, what about all the people using their cell phones during work time? The theft of time thing is a bunch of bull.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Where is Mulgrew? That's what I have read throughout this entire pandemic.

Think for yourselves. The DOE has provided each and everyone the opportunity to not go into school buildings. Read the memo about Covid and attendance until you come up with a strategy.

    Good luck everyone!
