The NY Times put out what Reality Based Educator (see below) called a "Mission Accomplished" piece on COVID-19 in NYC public schools.
Out of 16,348 staff members and students tested randomly by the school system in the first week of its testing regimen, the city has gotten back results for 16,298. There were only 28 positives: 20 staff members and eight students.
The Times says NYC could be a model nationally for school reopening. This is a huge stretch for the paper of record.
The NY Post has an article written by Selim Algar that puts some real context around the numbers the Times reported.
A total of 2,056 city kids have tested positive for the coronavirus since the beginning of September — with an infection rate of 2 percent, city figures show.
Further down:
Between October 13 and 19, 23,217 kids were tested and 419 were positive, a 1.8 percent infection rate.
There's more in this article:
Department of Education schools are separately required to relay student COVID-19 cases reported by families, teachers, and labs to the city for confirmation and began doing so on September 8.
As of Monday, the city has counted 527 cases — 226 students and 301 teachers and staffers, according to the data.
Those figures include both remote-only and in-person learners.
On Monday alone, schools reported 27 new student cases and 35 teacher positives.
As part of Mayor de Blasio’s school reopening plan, between 10 and 20 percent of school populations are being randomly tested each month to guard against outbreaks.
The DOE started that process on October 9 and tested 5,829 students and 10,519 staff members over the subsequent week.
A total of 20 employees and 8 students came up positive for a minimal infection rate of 0.17 percent.
While the process is still in its early stages, only 15 percent of blended learning students have so far submitted parental consent forms allowing them to be tested on school grounds.
Asked if that tempered his faith in the 0.17 infection rate and its value as a student coronavirus indicator, de Blasio reiterated his confidence in the city’s approach.
“The results we’re seeing in the schools are just extraordinarily clear and consistent,” de Blasio said at his daily briefing on Tuesday.
Extraordinarily clear and consistent. Virtually no COVID-19 in the schools? They are almost immune. Send in the scientists.
How can we account for it? Here is a message sent to me from a New York City teacher this morning that might in part explain some numbers:
On days when I go into the building, I have exactly 1 student. And I don't even teach him, I just watch him all day while he logs on to other classes while I teach the kids who are at home.
This teacher is teaching real classes remotely. There are reports of blended learning schools where there are actually many live students who are attending but what I am hearing from the teacher above is more typical of the teachers I talk to.
The low in-person enrollment may have something to do with the low number of positive COVID-19 test results. It's easy to social distance if the building is pretty much empty.
The reality is much more complex in the buildings than the rosy picture the mayor is depicting. If the alarming data is right that we might inevitably be headed for a new round of escalating community spread of COVID-19 infections, the Times and the people suing to open school buildings might not look very smart.
Does anyone have attendance numbers from any school buildings?
Quarantining because of encounter with family member that tested positive and my principal said other people that tested negative didn’t have to request time off like you did. LOL what?!?!? Good to know other colleagues are coming into buildings knowingly being exposed and being around others who were Covid+. Last I checked it takes 5-6 days for the virus to show presence in the tests. WTF. Am I bugging out?!
ReplyDeleteNo, not bugging out, can't let guard down with COVID-19.
ReplyDeleteAnother statistical trick. Create such a small sample size, (i.e. one kid to a class and the underlying bias that if she/he is attending he/she is probably feeling well thus most likely is Covid free), venues that small sample size as proof positive that the schools are Covid free.
ReplyDeleteI'll tell you whats happening in NYC schools: Teachers are PISSED that the UFT never asked them if they want to be in the buildings when every other major school district is fully remote. Oh yeah, Boston just announced they are going fully remote today.
ReplyDeleteNEW: 3 minutes “casual contact” led to transmission in NZ Flag of New Zealand where cases rare & contact tracing very detailed. But now “concern mounts over the revelation of one port worker contracted #COVID19 after just 3 minutes of contact w/ a sick man.” WORRISOME.
ReplyDeleteSee, it starts at colleges (or high schools), then spreads, and eventually gets to senior population:
ReplyDeleteAfter a college town’s coronavirus outbreak, deaths at nursing homes mount
Grading policy?
ReplyDeleteAttendance policy?
Spring Break money?
Right now: At a public meeting,
ReplyDeleteDOE Chancellor says city just received updated maps for school closures and officials are informing principals tonight. Principals will then communicate with school communities
Until then, we should get sick...
We are tired of this lost cause. We bang our head against a brick wall forever. The retro was lost. Mulgrew agreed to this ridiculous reopening. They are closing schools left and right. More red zones are popping up daily. Some schools have 5 students in person. Why bother anymore? The uft gives up more and ore everyday. We are so fatigued and beaten at this point and nobody is there to support us.
ReplyDeleteOn 10/20, Positive rate 2.14% in NYCDOE schools - 2,288 teachers/staff/ students were tested.
ReplyDelete49 were positive
2.14% (far from .16% reported in NYT)
31 students
18 teachers/staff

Any inside info on observations?AP shared that teachers were certified in the Advance system. With the many issues, ie lack of attendance, lack of devices, etc, are we really going to be held to these observations?I cant believe esp ed still has NYSSA and SANDI/FAST assessments.isnt it unfair to have state assessments of any kind under the current conditions?
ReplyDeleteSome young people and staffers testing positive yet positives in schools are minuscule. Looks like remote staff and "students" (90% of whom are AWOL) are getting sick at the mall, Jose Tejas and the dine in movies in Menlo. They might be better off in the building.
ReplyDeleteAdd observations to Jason's reasons for sadness. Another uft failure. But keep paying dues.
ReplyDeleteWonder what would happen with Society if the people in the factories making our goods as well as those delivering and stocking shelves were all to be such whiners like NYC teachers? Would you like to go into a store and see empty selves? How about those collecting trash? Would you like to see rats running rampant in your neighborhood? How about the nurses and healthcare workers Staffing hospitals ever since the covid-19 outbreak? What if they were to take this same childish position as NYC teachers? How long do you think Society would remain civilized if all essential workers just decided not to show up? Most people on this blog are an embarrassment to the profession
ReplyDeleteI agree with @9:54 pm
DeleteWe are not essential.
ReplyDeleteThe doe is a scam.
We can work remotely.
They have screwed me do iften I have no reason to risk my health for them.
@9:54 - What part of the "students are not showing up to the schools" don't you understand? Why should teachers travel to/from hot zones, risk life and limb, to get to their classes with one student in it, with the rest safely at home. What kind of control freak must DeBlasio be to hold firmly to a reopening plan that is not working? None of the examples you gave can do their jobs remotely - teachers can.
ReplyDeleteSo, they're testing the staff and students who are in the building... the ones who did not call out sick or were turned away due to failing the health-check/temp-checks.
ReplyDeleteOK.
9:54 - you're an empty self, hater.
"Would you like to go into a store and see empty selves? "
@7:07 am
DeleteYou're an empty self hater
I noticed that it's mostly high schools that kids are not showing up to. The elementary and JH schools have decent attendance. High schoolers always are the bigger cutters, and they don't need to be baby sat at home.
ReplyDeleteJust curious, how would you define decent, 8:27?
ReplyDeleteMore than 100 NYC schools in coronavirus hotspots can reopen, state officials say https://ny.chalkbeat.org/2020/10/21/21527387/cuomo-de-blasio-school-closure-hotspot-coronavirus via
ReplyDelete@ChalkbeatNY
I work at a transfer school. 5 students were in the building all day yesterday. My remote classes were 0, 3, 7, 7, 6. That is out of 50 per class. I'm PE. I guess that is 23 out of 250. 9% remote.
ReplyDelete8:39: Acceptable, satisfactory of course according to doe standards.
ReplyDeleteI'm in HS and my in-person attendance is between 80 and 100%. Of course with the division into cohorts that's 5 out of 6, 9 out of 10, etc. All the cutters and LTA's got their parents to sign them up for remote so they can do no work.
ReplyDelete9:54 took a bit of a rough tone but is 100% correct in his/her analysis.
Lastly, no, our job cannot be done remotely. No learning is actually taking place in "remote learning".
No learning took place with the building fully open over the past 20 years. Please tell me where you work, we must be in very different environments.
ReplyDeleteI'm curious...what in the world are you doing in a school where no learning has happened for 20 years? If you feel like you cannot be effective in a school, then it is up to you to see your other options. Otherwise you are complacent and have accepted your futility.
Delete@2:05 pm...
Delete11:17 am is probably part of the anonymous folks who think there are only 2 types of educators:
1. Those who sacrifice their life by working themselves into the ground 24/7 and
2. The "fake it to you make it/mediocres" who want to be friendly to the students.
But don't mess with their money, that's when you will hear them speak up--kinda.
I have remote students, many, emailing about how they can pass. They have no showed Google meets and have completed 0 assignments. The doe rambles on about how much the students are achieving.
ReplyDelete@12:08 pm...
DeleteThe DOE can only ramble on because of the soldiers who provide fake grades. But continue, the doe really respects you. That's why they pay you and treat you so well. Mediocrity at its best.
I’m hearing stories of pregnant women who are still waiting to hear back from Sill. They are scared an anxious to be in the buildings but need the approval
ReplyDelete@UFT
@UFTSafety
The open market is a fraud.
ReplyDeleteI was an atr twice due to closing schools, almost every school is a shithole with students running wild.
How would you like me to change every school in nyc?
How would you like me to force myself into a "good" school?
No one is expected to change EVERY school. That doesn't even make sense. Also, nothing was said about a "good" school. It has to do with navigating throughout your career to find the right fit. Schools that close are unfortunate for staff and students, but if it's important to you, you could find a way to make it work. I would think so if you have been an educator for that long anyway. Open market may be irritating to deal with when you don't get call-backs, but again, it's possible to find something better than a school where "no learning" has been going on. I've known plenty of teachers, newbies and veterans alike, who have been able to move elsewhere if they are not happy where they are because they believe they could be useful/happier somewhere else.
DeleteI'm 1208, I passed 7% of my students in the 1st MP. I'm not the person to speak to. I work from home everyday and will collect $130k this year, since you brought up salary. I treat them the way they treat me. My grades are honest. And I didn't retire and come back as a consultant like you, after saying what a fraud it is.
ReplyDelete@3:25 pm...
DeleteYou're such a hard grader yet the students continue asking you how they can pass. Your communication skills needs improving. Speaking of salary...let me check my account for the most recent deposit. I earn my salary. Bye
Mediocre is celebrated by many. Ethical standards is considered foolish and working too hard. "I treat them the way they treat me". This is from the adults in the room. Sheesh.
DeleteI would like to respond to 2:54 PM, waiting for Staten Island for almost 20 years, when will I be able to move elsewhere?
ReplyDeleteI wasn't aware that working outside of your borough is impossible and that 20 years is not long enough to figure out how to better your situation. I understand that changing careers or travelling for work can take a toll, but it seems like wasteful time to stay where "no learning" is occurring. You've decided to stick with it, fine. Then as any other profession, you have to deal with situations that are not ideal all of the time. If you feel strongly about something, then take action.
DeleteI've been with the doe almost 23 years and was made an ATR after 20.5 years in the same school due to a reorganization. This is my 3rd year as a teacher in the ATR. I can tell you there is huge inequity in the school system. I've been to some schools that were wonderful and most of the teachers were happy there because they have students who want to learn and admin. that is supportive of them. I just resent the fact that if you are at a school that has low performing students that you are labeled as a failing teacher. I can't tell you how demoralizing it was to be at my old school and constantly being told by admin. and the bureaucrats that we were a failing school and that we were failing the kids. In the good schools I was in, the teachers didn't seem any better than the ones in the bad school. My solution is to spread all those bad students out into the good schools. If the schools are as good as they say they are, they should be able to bring those students up to the level they should be. I don't think all the teachers at Townsend Harris would be effective if they took students from Richmond Hill, John Adams, August Martin, Flushing and Epic High Schools.
ReplyDeleteI agree @4:32pm
DeleteLol. Yup. See failure of erasmus, Jefferson, prospect, transit tech, canarsie, lane...almost every school in brooklyn.
ReplyDelete@4:41 pm
DeleteWhat's the grad rate at those schools?
Tell mulgrew and de blasio...New York begins to see uptick in coronavirus hospitalizations
ReplyDeleteWhile the infection rate remains low in New York, there could be some trouble in the near future as hospitalization rates begin to increase across the state.
They are asking how to pass because they are bums and taught by people like de blasio that they can get over know matter how little they do. No matter how low the bar is, they can't get over it. They can't even log into a remote class.
ReplyDeleteTeachers don't need communication skills, or any skills really. This whole system is one large diploma mill. They made it so my only job is to log in and get paid twice a month.
ReplyDelete6:06: Don't judge that teacher. He/she is not a hard teacher, he/she is an honest grader. It's teachers like you that inflate grades. When you do that you make it harder for the kids when they go to school and are with students who actually applied themselves. As for the grad rates who cares, they're all inflated anyway. With remote learning and pass everyone and no Regents exams, all the schools should have 90 percent easily at the end of the year. Another reason to stay with remote learning.
ReplyDeleteStay at remote--a mediocre teacher's dream. So why was the mediocre teacher upset at being labeled a babysitter? Shrug.
DeleteI check google extension after each class, students are logging in and then minimizing the window and doing other stuff like facebook, twitter...what am i to do?
ReplyDeleteThis is the game w4s plays
ReplyDeletesays idiot teachers pass everyone
then someone says they fail everyone and w4s says you must be a bad teacher because low pass rate
says how bad we are
then crows about a pension check and getting a consulting check in a failing school
says white people are racists
then says nothing about her students accomplishing nothing over her long teaching career
says students pass for no reason
then when students want to pass without merit says teacher cant communicate
@Geo...
ReplyDeletePhew. You are hot tonight. The doe/uft have driven you to cluelessness. If being mediocre is your thang, then hold your head high. I suggest that you save your huffing and puffing for the people who really have their foot on your ARCE-- the DOE/UFT. Finally I do take offense at your calling my school failing. The admin are fabulous. They actually prefer hard working educators not kiss ass^s or "fake it to ya make it mediocrity". Comprehension skills are underrated. You tried though.
Funny, you never mention the school.
ReplyDelete@11:15 Hah. You are seeking what you have not provided. Anyone can track my comments but you're anonymous. You are an unknown. You're one of MANY anonymous posters AND have never mentioned your school's name. You should save your warrior energy for your admin, the DOE and MM. What are you doing about their behavior towards you?
ReplyDeleteI too would live to know where w4s works. Clearly a model, I would think. I work at Prospect Heights.
ReplyDelete9:57 am and 10:02 am .....
Delete2(?) anonymous posters? Who can tell who is who? Lol.
Read 4:07 pm and 9:54 pm posts. Great ideaa. Stay safe. Wash your hands and wear your masks. Byeee
I can track you? Your real name is waiting for support? Oh.
ReplyDeleteThis is my energy. I refused to go into an infected school. I don't have a medical accommodation. I have gotten Satisfactory/Effective forever. I have a maxed out sick bank. I max out the TDA/457B and Roth IRA. I cash my check. I give work students don't do. I take attendance. I have about 10% showing up. I do a 10-15 minute talk. I show videos. Then I pass only who deserves it. BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT THE SCHOOL SYSTEM DEMANDS. Please show me your way.
ReplyDeletew4s, a legend in her own mind, a failure in the mind of everyone else. Notice how she didnt mention the school she is so proud of with the fabulous admin. LOL. I dont need a mask, I'm in my bed.
ReplyDeleteWell then, it sounds as if you're prepared for observations by admin.
ReplyDeleteWaiting 4 Support is an excellent commenter who makes many valid points. She clearly stood up for herself when in the classroom. She is also not afraid to email me and we can go back and forth. I would back her up in a second. That is much more difficult to say for some of the anonymous folks here.
ReplyDeleteThanks James.
ReplyDelete@2:49 (anonymous sheep) is in bed. Hopefully he/she is retired or took a day off.
I'm prepared for an observation. Who cares? I've never gotten a bad one. So why won't she let us know about this model school? Teachers may want to transfer to this fabulous admin. Why doesnt she discuss why some schools have not improved in 3 decades?
ReplyDeletethe name waitingforsupport is anonymous, it is the same thing. It is a fake name.
ReplyDeleteWaiting for Support has emailed me off list. She isn't afraid to let me know who she is. No BS email account so I don't know. Waiting is very credible.
DeleteI'm in bed because students don't care and can't be bothered to attend a class from home. I'll be here watching TV. Why stress it? The mayor isn't.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous is spewing nonsense and talking in circles. In bed "because students don't care" and even posts that sh$&. Again, tell everyone why you're upset with the doe/uft? You give real teachers a bad name. Go to sleep. You're a clown and all of your students know it. You're a babysitter and a bad one. Lol.
DeleteLol at an observation. What are they gonna do, fire me?
ReplyDeleteShe isn't telling us who she is as she blasts us while telling us what a wonderful school she is in while not revealing the school. That isn't exactly public or credible.
ReplyDeleteI know who she is. I have no clue who you are. It makes a difference.
ReplyDeleteOkay but let's not be so personal if at all possible everyone. I'm trying to start to try to repair a dysfunctional union here.
ReplyDelete130k babysitter with a mercedes
ReplyDeleteThat's all. $130k. And a Mercedes. You come cheap. Go back to sleep, slug. Lol
DeleteIt is so dysfunctional that you tell everyone to keep paying dues.
ReplyDeleteHe keeps telling everyone to fix or create a better union. In order to do that you have to pay dues. How are people still not understanding this?
DeleteThis back and forth is pretty funny, James. 2 anonymous people fighting over the most fraudulent and corrupt school system in the world.
ReplyDelete"You're a clown and all of your students know it." Based on student results, every teacher must be a clown. It isn't like the guy in bed is getting worse results than anybody else.
Let me be the first to congratulate you. Drive safely.
ReplyDeleteYou want to hear about doing nothing. I am in ATR and I sit in the lounge sometimes several days at a time and I'm at top salary, but the doe can't pay our retro because it has no money.
ReplyDeleteI'm very cheap.
ReplyDeleteHa. Yes you are.
DeleteOk, so after paying all these dues when will I see the change? When will all of you vote out the current leadership? based on history, the answer to both of those questions is never.
ReplyDeleteAren't the students who don't show up and do nothing and commit crime the slugs?
ReplyDeleteLet me think. Well you said you're in bed. You "fake it until you make it" therefore you don't earn your salary. Every day you commit a crime of theft of services because taxpayers are being ripped off by your rancid arce. So i think you're a slug. An adult slug. An adult slug with no work ethic. How about that.
ReplyDeleteYou can lead a horse to water, you can't make it drink. Students aren't there. Why can't I teach a remote class from bed? Where is that written? Where is the theft of service? I am logged into the system when I'm supposed to be logged into the system.
ReplyDelete@9:17 you're doing your best. March on.
ReplyDeleteIf I could interject into this riveting conversation, I have agree with the slug. I'm about 10 years in. There really is nothing positive going on. Students, when the building was open, wouldn't lift a finger, wouldn't do a shred of work, got blamed for nothing, while destroying the building. No, remotely, I get about 3-5 on average out of 34 per period. Why bother? And then we are told to give a million 2nd chances and are implored to feel bad for them. I get the "They are the hardest hit by the pandemic" excuse, what happened the 10 years before the pandemic? Why do so many of my students have parole officers. Why continue to bust my ass and talk to myself? I get the same excuses every year, they will show up in June, it is good enough. I ask for an essay, if I am lucky I get a sentence, 2 weeks late. This is why so many probably have the "slug" attitude.
ReplyDeleteFunny all of you. Actually, why can't a remote teacher work from bed? Students don't have to turn their cameras on. You think they are sitting at a desk working?
ReplyDeleteIf the mayor and chancellor and uft applaud fake grad rate and graduating students who can't write a sentence, what are they? Slugs? Worse? Carranza make 350k. Mulgrew makes 300k off of our backs. Teachers should give up if all our bosses have done far worse.
ReplyDelete@9:52 am
DeleteIf the mayor chancellor and uft are the ruler to which you measure yourself...own it. When you talk about them being corrupt, remember people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Let the hatin begin lol rofl
Are parents who won't sign a permission slip for so called mandatory testing slugs?
ReplyDelete@Waiting or support 9:38 - LOL @ "you're doing your best". Truth be told, I"m over this in-person thing. Been there, done it, and now I would go remote. The kids are not showing up, which is not really a bad thing because my environment feels safe. But it's not worth the commuting time. One thing is for certain - when/if I finally go fully remote I will NOT be teaching from bed. It's a mindset. It's so tacky, whether the students show up or not. It's so crazy.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous 3:27 - Posting with a specific username, even if the posting name is not the real name is NOT the same as multiple people posting with the name Anonymous. I'm sure that Waitingforsupport is not suggesting that you you can "track" her in real life, but rather that you can track her comments on this site, unlike all of you Anonymous cowards that one has NO IDEA if it's the same person. Granted an anonymous troll can decide to hijack a user's screenname but that is on the troll, not on the user who is trying to differentiate themselves from other posters.'
@Bob - 2:20. You can refuse to go into an infected building but depending on the school they can force you to use your CAR days. There's no way the Admin in my school would tolerate someone just deciding on their own to work remotely.
@9:49 - you're going to compare a teacher to a student? That's funny. The charter schools tried to get their students to wear uniforms and there was a lot of pushback. Perhaps that was going too far, but I'm thinking the point was to help put them into school mode even though they're at home. I'm assuming that you are not on camera if you are in the bed. I think the students should see the teachers.
ReplyDelete@9:32 - you said you get 3-5 remotely. Not sure what grade you teach, but those 3-5 that are showing up are deserving of an education, and in High School they need Regents Preparation. Some don't even want to show up if others aren't coming. I try to get them to see the benefit to themselves, of small class instruction. I share my own stories on how I would love going into the college math lab and not seeing anyone else there. I'd hate to think that the tutor would think they didn't have to help because no one else was coming. You can give your best to those who do show up, or take the attitude that if most of them won't care then neither will you, and then those 3-5 won't get an education either.
ReplyDeleteFor those who are not coming - we're supposed to reach out. If a student is disruptive, am I going to reach out - hell no. But a kid who was present and engaged, but wasn't transitioning to remote - I'd call them up and light a fire under them. Pushed and pulled during remote sessions. Wasn't the same as before they turned in work, passed the class, and got the Regents waiver.
We can try, or we can give up. And yeah- it's exhausting physically and mentally, so frankly I'm ok with the smaller classes for the time being.
@ Tom
DeleteYou're right. "It's a mindset."
@the anonymous cult:
If you view someone who has strong work ethics as "showing off" or "working 24/7 and ignoring one's family", then your view is flawed and f@%ked up. We all know the challenges of working for the DOE. As far as I am concerned, if working from bed is your thing, then it's your thing. Unfortunately not everybody does the right thing when no one is watching.
i dig @tom
DeleteTom, my principal allowed me not to come in after i told him i refused for safety reasons.
ReplyDeleteWho said I don't do my job? I just said 90% of the students don't give a shit and never did. I said grade fraud is rampant. I said students throw garbage work at us and it always good enough. I said students can be absent everyday and it is still good enough to pass. I do live remote instruction daily.
ReplyDelete@ Michelle.
DeleteYou aren't doing your job if:
90% of those students who don't give a shit "throw garbage work at us" and YOU pass them. I mean what the f^#k? These students are absent everyday and you pass them?
You have a choice you know. Everyone has a choice.
Don't tell me that your admin will target you. And? Look around you. If all of your colleagues are playing the game and passing everyone. How can you say that you're doing your job? Isn't your job (as a PROFESSIONAL) to teach? If the students aren't showing you that they are learning why do you pass them? I know it's hard to stand up to the bulls%^t but everybody needs to do it. They disrespected everyone in March and you're still playing the game of passing everyone? Come on now.
The diploma mill would shut down the moment teachers stopped passing those who don't deserve it. That's our power. The city doesn't give 2 cents about you or me. They want diplomas and we give diplomas. That's not our job. Our job is to teach. All these so called local leaders would wake up the minute true grades are given. I get that folks are struggling but things won't change if we don't change.
@11:22 - that's cool - but that's is going to be at the Principal's discretion. I think it's great if more Principal's did that. It's not automatic that people can decide for themselves that they're not coming in without having to deal with repercussions.
ReplyDeleteThe next w4s comment will be that we are bad teachers if so many are failing right after it is said that we need to fail more people. LOL. Adios.
ReplyDelete@5:40 - you're not making any sense. Go back to bed.
ReplyDelete@5:40 pm... you are a struggle but that's ok.
ReplyDeleteI really don't see how doing outreach makes a difference. It didn't work 23 years ago when I started teaching and it still doesn't work. I really don't know why admin. thinks outreach is the panacea for poor attendance. Why don't they hold parents accountable and fine them or take away their welfare benefits when their kids don't attend school?
ReplyDelete@6:36 pm and other anonymous:
DeleteWhat are you ACTUALLY willing to do to earn your $130k so that you can keep buying Mercedes? I mean besides working from your mattress. I mean since you have practically admitted collecting welfare yourself because you're not really teaching or nobody is showing up. At least there are teachers reaching out. Do y'all just want a check?
I am remote teaching and I get about 80 students a day. When I was in person I got about 100 a dAy. (Before coronavirus). I agree with some of the posters here. Many of the kids refuse to do work and are expecting to pass for limited amount of work. I do my best for the 80; or so students that show up remote but the other half that doesn’t show up I should be responsible for? No. How about those parents or better yet how about THEY be held responsible for not showing up.
ReplyDelete6:36, Holding the parents accountable: Isn't that exactly what Kamala Harris did when she was AG in San Fransisco. The left attacked her for that.
ReplyDeleteYes. Hold the parents accountable. Hold the teachers responsible for giving actual grades. Stand up for yourselves. Sheesh.
DeleteYou forgot already, I go to sleep Monday morning at 8 AM, while waiting for half my retro check the following Friday.
ReplyDeleteSo let them attack. You have nothing to worry about if your kid goes to school and does the right thing.
ReplyDeleteIf trump loses, there will be no destructive riots. If biden loses, there will be.
ReplyDelete@8:08 pm...
DeleteHe is a destroyer. A divider. Incompetent. His sister said do. Do you really think you know him better than his sister? Have you heard of jim Jones and kool-aid? Wonderful little yarn about leadership.
@8;08pm
ReplyDeleteHis sister said *so
You are answering a different question. Nice diversion. I'm talking about the public rioting. I dont expect trump or biden lighting a building on fire personally. Which side riots?
ReplyDelete@8:08 - But there were plans to bring down a State Government and kidnap the Governor. I guess that's ok with you as long as it's not "public rioting". And yeah - Trump did light the fire personally when he screeched out "Liberate Michigan" and other nonsense. Which side engages in domestic terrorism?
ReplyDeleteThat is a few people. And what they planned was totally wrong. There were thousands and thousands of rioters all over the country burning down churches and business and looting and killing people...2 billion dollars worth of damage. They then said the looting was ok to loot nike and macys and apple because it is like reparations. That indicates who it was.
ReplyDelete11:33 - these are facts. What you posted is hysterical propaganda.
ReplyDelete"The vast majority of Black Lives Matter protests—more than 93%—have been peaceful, according to a new report published Thursday by a nonprofit that researches political violence and protests across the world.
The Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project (ACLED) analyzed more than 7,750 Black Lives Matter demonstrations in all 50 states and Washington D.C. that took place in the wake of George Floyd’s death between May 26 and August 22.
Their report states that more than 2,400 locations reported peaceful protests, while fewer than 220 reported “violent demonstrations.” The authors define violent demonstrations as including “acts targeting other individuals, property, businesses, other rioting groups or armed actors.” Their definition includes anything from “fighting back against police” to vandalism, property destruction looting, road-blocking using barricades, burning tires or other materials. In cities where protests did turn violent—these demonstrations are “largely confined to specific blocks,” the report says."
@11:33 - p.s. and you just gave one more example of the warzone that parts of America is in, under Trump. The fraud negotiator who can't even calm things down in his own country and then tries to blame Biden for it.
ReplyDeleteWait so 7% of protests going violent is ok? Even if I believed those numbers ( which I don’t) it leaves a lot of people committing violence And property damage. Anyone on either side of the political divide should not commit violence and property da,ge. Anyone who is fair about it would condemn ANYONE who doesn’t and not make excuses for them. By the way when we make excuses for people (systemic racism, white privilege) we infantilism them.
ReplyDelete@12:50 - YOU'RE the one bringing up riots while downplaying the plot to bring down a State Government, and kidnap and kill the Governor AND made no mention of the storming of the State Houses. I haven't seen YOU CONDEMN them, and in fact you made excuses by saying "that's only a few". So what are you squawking about? You can't even follow your own argument. Hypocrite.
ReplyDeleteAttacking people over their political beliefs or how they survive this corrupt doe system is the height of arrogance. Bragging about working from bed and driving a Mercedes is just stupid. It sounds like bad lyrics from a bad rap song. Geo, you hit a nerve.
ReplyDelete@1:49 pm
DeleteGeo spoke the truth. I'm just repeating it. Geo isn't offended. Im not offended. Geo is whatever it takes for Geo to thrive. I love it.
Of coiurse nobody should gloat about working from bed, but isnt that what the system is. And Geo was correct, it seems like what every teacxher complains about gets second guesses.
ReplyDeleteIf they pass everybody they are part of fraud.
If they fail everyone who deserves it which is everyone they are called a bad teacher because studnets didnt learn.
I think the below was geo's one comment.
This is the game w4s plays
says idiot teachers pass everyone
then someone says they fail everyone and w4s says you must be a bad teacher because low pass rate
says how bad we are
then crows about a pension check and getting a consulting check in a failing school
says white people are racists
then says nothing about her students accomplishing nothing over her long teaching career
says students pass for no reason
then when students want to pass without merit says teacher cant communicate
@2:07 pm
DeleteState the Date/topic/time when i said, "if you fail everyone you're a bad teacher".
Not how bad teachers are, just the lazy ones who brag about being happy to feed the diploma mill machine.
You really don't comprehend well. I can tell because you do not understand what you are reading. I hope you are NOT an educator. I couldn't be a student in your class. You couldn't teach me. Go back to your bed. Wash your hands and wear that mask when you head out in public.
Take your time finding the posts. I will apologize once you do. My word.
Tom I am 12:50. I didn’t say any of the things you said you are confusing me with another commenter. Of course the kidnapping plot was wrong and horrible. Like i said ALL violence should be condemned. But the violence that happened sometimes during but definitely after some Blm protests should be condemned as well. I didn’t even see where people “stormed” the state houses but if they were protesting(Remember if we say Blm can protest during coved so can any other group) then I don’t have a problem with it. If they were committing violence and/or property damage then yes I condemn that as well. Do you equally condemn all violence and property damage? Or is it ok for one group to do so?
ReplyDeleteI think you thought I was 11:33. Which I wasn’t.
ReplyDelete9:51 here again one more thing. If we can’t all condemn all forms of violence than not just will all teachers never get along then all of America will never heal. The people committing violence are extremes on both sides. It’s up to us on in the majority to condemn those people and ostracize them as they should be. Silence is acceptance
