YET ANOTHER MULGREW VACCINE EMAIL

 Vaccination update

Dear UFT Member,

We have been fighting to make the COVID-19 vaccine accessible to all school personnel as soon as possible. At his press conference today, Governor Cuomo asked the UFT and other unions representing essential workers to put together operational plans to distribute the vaccine to members who want to receive it.

We are working with hospital chains and other medical providers in the New York City area to create a vaccine distribution network for UFT members. We won't have to rely on the city's flawed process, which has left scores of vaccines sitting on the shelf. We will share the details with you as soon as we have finalized our plan.

New York City was the only large school district to reopen for in-person learning in September. It's good to see the state and the city acknowledge the vital role you have played in holding this city together throughout this pandemic.

Offering the vaccine to school staff is a significant step in ending this public health crisis. But it is not enough. With numbers in our community on the rise again, our fight to gain access to the vaccine must go hand in hand with our continued fight to keep schools safe. We cannot focus on one and neglect the other.

Other current issues

The fight to close at 9 percent

We disagree with the governor's new position that schools can remain open even if the community infection rate is above 9 percent. Safety comes first — as shown by the fact that hundreds of our elementary schools and classrooms are closed temporarily every day because the virus has been detected. We will be fighting for all schools to go remote if the New York City infection rate as calculated by the state reaches 9 percent.

State vs. city numbers

The state infection rate for New York City is the only number that matters in any decisions involving schools.

Up-to-date safety data

In our new school COVID response database, we are sharing the most up-to-date information on classroom and school closures to prevent COVID spread and most recent state infection rate for New York City. Our diligence in continuing to close classrooms with positive cases or schools with two or more unrelated cases will continue to be our priority to keep our school communities safe.

We will keep you updated with the latest developments. Thank you for all you do.

Sincerely,

Michael Mulgrew

  1. Great. With inflation set to explode, when will we be getting the tda back to 8.25%? When will we be getting spring break paid?

  2. 12:37, Seriously?! You should go out and get a UFT tattoo quote today - “ You are lucky to have a job.” -As an ATR, I heard this each time I saw or called from Janella Hinds, each time I called Amy Arundel, each time I was visited by Jeff Povalitis, twice from Monte Montebello after asking why Fair Student Funding wasn’t being fought, and once from Mike Sill (who is always in hiding) after getting him on the phone once after six months of trying. All teachers will be hearing this quote, ad neauseum, shorty, but you would know that already if you had even an inkling of common sense. NYC teachers truly deserve the UFT, Mulgrew and all his paid jackasses.

  3. The bald bastard is full of shit. As long as him and his uniturd minions can parasitize dues, they will continue to send members to die. He never cared about us other than to extract money from those he misrepresented although swears that he represents the poor sods. When is this craven liar going to visit the schools he insists should be open. All this while he keeps the UFT offices closed. The DOE is the same. All their offices are shut. Do as he says not as he does.
New York’s meekest and dumbest. Time to decertify and take away the money. Better to start fresh.

  4. No mention of the death.why I surprised??
He didnt say what the plan is when we hit 9%...cuz there is none...

  5. Once you get labeled an ATR, "It is a death sentence for life." No matter how good a teacher you are, they are never going to like you or take you in. Just remember you are an angel who goes around visiting schools and leaves a lasting impression on the children. I was in a middle school and a student said to me, "I had you in kindergarten." I was shocked that this kid remembered me.
These kids never forget their teacher and they have no clue of what an ATR is!

ATR's are special teachers, and that is why we are chosen! Throw us in any environment and we survive. If you are an ATR, pat yourself on the back and know you are just as good as the other teachers!
Take day by day, and keep your eye on the prize!

  6. We, the membership, sold our souls when we accepted the stripping of the rights of ATRs. I’m not an ATR but I’ve always felt that was our death knell.

  7. Also remember as an ATR you have 90percent less work than the classroom teacher. You dont have field supervisors anymore coming after your job. If you still have somewhat of a work ethic the principals likes this and will use you for things and are happy because they dont have to pay you. I have ten years as a classroom teacher and this is my ninth year as an atr. I have had maybee three bad years and the rest have been good. Well actually the last two have been comfortable because of covid. I know I do a good job. None of these principals will ever remember any of us but the students will.

  9. I'd like to pat myself on the back as an ATR but I don't feel worthy. 4:07 is right, when you are banished to the ATR pool you lose all your Seniority rights. The only thing that is maintained is your salary, but you don't get preference forms, you have to teach whatever you are assigned, it's very hard to get per session and impossible to get comp time. You also don't even have a mailbox or a time card many times. Also many times you don't even get a class. The last 3 schools I've been in were good schools with a good administration but still when you're in the ATR, people still don't look at you as a real teacher. I still thing there is a lawsuit somewhere here, but I don't want to waste my money pursuing a futile endeavor.

  10. As a former atr, i wish i could say that i am an atr!!!
those were the best days of my career, and yes i had a field supervisor- one that many complained about on other blogs by name.
and yes i was sent to bad schools-

  11. Lol. "Teachers who work in-person are all raging right now,” one DOE official said.

“They’re all pissed because they feel they’re getting the short end of the stick in here everyday getting exposed while people are sitting home in their jammies,” the staffer seethed.

  12. Mulgrew said "They make us grade kids who never show."

    Why can't we fail them?

  13. I hate racism against all groups, but I hate pandering more. Mulgrew and the UFT are experts at it. I’m surprised they haven’t come out and said only people of color can get the vaccine, although the vaccine questioneer did want to know my race. Expect all out war on White teachers when schools finally open up. I’m laughing at the whole Soho Karen episode. They didn’t see her without her mask, thought she was White and went full media blast on her ass. Now that they found out she’s a silly drunk Puerto Rican youngster they’re forced to try to continue with their tar and feathering, even while she’s told Oprah’s pal that she can’t be racist because she isn’t White. As hilarious as it is, SNL WON’T be doing a skit on her. If she were actually White, definitely.

  14. Really curious to see what is ironed out with evaluations. I saw the DOE wants Danielson and that we HAVE to have a MOSL!!!! So funny. lol.

  15. Divide and Conquer.

    Onsite-teachers vs. Remote - seriously?

I've heard constant bashing of remote teachers from the on-site teachers. Meanwhile, our remote teachers hold the onsite ones in respect and wish they could be there.

As a remote teacher I've worked even harder than ever before to provide my students with an "in-class" like environment. And yes, I may be in my "jammies", but I'm not "living the life" here. I have medical conditions that place me in high risk. I'm not out "partying" or "shopping" as Amy claimed remote teachers are.

Understand they may be remote due to real issues. They are at high-risk from COVID and getting infected could be a death sentence.
So really, shouldn't everyone be able to get the vaccine?

Don't let the M-UFT divide us.
    Respect your colleagues.
    Don't turn on each other.

    ReplyDelete
  16. WHO SAYS WE HAVE TO HAVE A MOSL? I thought that the state says local evaluations are locally negotiated? If that is the case, why can't we use S/U? Mulgrew MUST wait until he sees what other NY districts are doing in terms of evaluations before he agrees to anything. (Remember when Mulgrew agreed to 4 observations when the rest of the state agreed to 2?) He better not mess this up and if he does it will 100% be his fault.

  17. Mulgrew doesnt have to do anything but stay dumb and shitty and die...
As far as remote vs in house, in my school, ALL teachers work.some remote paras definitely dont.even though some may have conditions, they should be glad to be remote and work.they are the same trouble makers when they are in house.some dont show up or turn off their face and disappear.
Some bad apples spoil the orchard of hard workers, just the same as in house.media loves controversy and bashing. Still asking how to oust mulgrew...
As far as vaccines. Maybe they use race to determine which one you get...or maybe to study effects on groups.who knows?not to be trusted, like why areas with 18%open?just like Gov.Ducey in Az who wants to force remote schools to open.

  20. Schools are not going to open because of some editorial in the Post.

That being said, I think the middle schools and high schools should reopen after February break.

It's not going to make much of a difference anyway - most high school students have chosen to be fully remote, and I don't think the overall trajectory of this school year is going to change much, if at all.

It's been a dead school year, and I fully expect the June Regents to be waived.

  21. Let me be clear. I am not traveling to a school via public transportation until I feel safe. If they would like to fire me, they may day so. Oh, especially when I would be traveling to be there with no students to talk to a computer screen.

  22. I have to say, after frequenting this blog for months, I really do believe that the majority of teachers are cry babies, ruled by fear.

This level of hysteria over COVID is borderline insanity. People need to stop pretending like this is the Bubonic Plague, which it isn't.

You don't feel safe in the subways? Too bad. Cry me a river.

This is exactly why all the mail-in ballots shouldn't be been burned in a bonfire. Cowards should have no right to vote whatsoever. But what do you expect from Democrats? They thrive on fear and degeneracy.

I wanted schools closed not because of safety, but because I'm a disillusioned angry teacher trying to milk the corrupt DOE as much as I can before I jump off the sinking ship.

I stopped caring about the so-called "students" a long time ago when I realized how much of a farce it all was. There's no real learning taking place in the schools, most teachers are libtards, and the administrators are brainless robots doing the bidding of an evil, corrupt bureaucracy.

I only care about one thing and one thing only: the money. Period.

    ReplyDelete
  23. What the Post does not understand is that even with a vaccine, our schools are so friggin' crowded that we will most likely still need cohorts to maintain social distancing. This is not a problem in the suburbs where reasonable class sizes are in place and there are no Bloomberg co-located "Boutique Schools".

I can count on both my hands people I know who have died from this, some close family friends, some distant relatives. I thought in my entire life I would be counting people I know who died - not in the span of a year.

Thank God you didn't have to go through the misery some people have had to go through. Sorry if them being mindful and careful due to what they've experienced is them being cowards. If you are such a big brave bear, why don't you say it to these people's faces in-person, huh?

I've called out people in-person for being ignorant - you call out people in-person for being cowards. You so brave, huh?

Some people have been fortunate to not be effected by this at a detrimental level. Other's haven't. But with the USA leading the world in deaths, I don't think it is something we should take lightly. Needless deaths are not a necessity to stroke the ego of the likes of people like you.

Money, money, money. You know what is one thing money can't do? Bring back dead loved ones. So go and earn your $$$. Know that there comes a sacrifice for all greed.

  26. the reason Covid isn't like Bubonic Plague is because of all the precautions we're taken. If we didn't take these precautions probably 1 percent of the population would be dead by now if not more.

  27. Much of that is true except I am concerned about my safety. Yes, after all the fraud, I have no problem working from my bed when students who never show up must pass. Still waiting for someone to justify that. Yes, I have repeatedly emailed admin and they keep giving me the DOE policy line and the kids keep telling me they pass every other class with no work and no attendance.

  29. Oren is right. As soon as they tell me to return to building, I resign. I'VE HAD ENOUGH. Luckily, i could afford to resign at a pre retirement age.

  30. I have many complete no shows due to graduate in 3 weeks. On what basis are they passing? Every teacher has said they've done enough to pass while having 0% attendance. What am I to do? Why keep banging my head against the wall?

    ReplyDelete
  31. The POST article has a point but it completely miscalculates the timing and speed of everything. For example, I am a NYC teacher who finally got an appointment on Long Island. That will be at the end of the January. That's my first shot. My second one is 21-28 days later. Now I am around the 21-28 of February. The vaccine doesn't take effect for a few weeks after that. Mid-March.

Now think of all the people who haven't gotten vaccines yet because they can't schedule one or they run out. You are still in April. We aren't that close.

Now, warmer weather may make a difference. That's why after the April break is a more likely possibility.

For those who choose not to get vaccinated you are making the choice to return to a normal world without protection. The disease will spread still because of that. Because there is not a vaccine for kids. Once again...we aren't close.

I am someone who works in the building. I have been vocal here about my situation and how safe I personally feel (I don't have to take public transportation nor do my students.) Although I am aware not everyone has a situation that I do so I respect your disagreements with me. But I am not a covid denier or right-wing crazy Trump supporter or a left-wing Trump basher. I deal with facts and can respect and listen to others. But I say this without any political agenda...we aren't close to fully opening safely, especially in those schools crowded together and reliant on public transportation.

  32. Yes, I think the mayor may order all staff back the day after April break. Students, of course, won't be there.

  35. To the ATR who does not feel worthy,

I know you are a very good teacher because it bothers you that you don't have a mailbox, and you realize it is hard to teach when you are forced to teach
out of your license area. Many people wouldn't care, but you do. Only a dedicated teacher who wants the children to have a high quality education would care.

The children appreciate you more than you know!
Please don't beat yourself up because you did not ask to become an ATR. If life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Try to find happiness on the job, which I know is very hard. I walked in your shoes for ten years. I became an ATR when nobody knew what that was, so you can imagine how I was treated! Mr. Mulgrew always emphasized at the DA meetings to treat ATR's with respect. Unfortunately, I had good and bad experiences in each school building I visited.

Your students are your biggest fans and never forget that! Stay strong! Stay safe!

    Sincerely,

An ATR angel who hopes to get her wings soon

  36. 11:07: Thank you so much for your sweet words. I know not having a mailbox sounds petty to everyone, but it hurts when every other person in the school including the aides have a mailbox but you don't. A lot of little things add up. I really don't feel like I'm having any effect on children now at least not like I used to have. Maybe a new mayor will realize the ridiculousness of this ATR pool.

Never give up home, though doe seems hopeless.i slaved in a shit school forever before 3020a, became an atr.assigned to worse shithole, then not more dysfunctional schools, all between 2017-2019.then I came to a great school where I got hired.i am appreciated, respected, valued. As are my coworkers.there is a shortage, people will retire now, and maybe something nice will open.when I was in rubber rm, I became close with someone who was also up on 3020.he became my confidant.when god closes a door. He opens a window!keep the faith cuz i am keeping it for you!
I do relate to your experiences though.i enjoyed a break from the bs, no paperwork, no lesson plans, etc.when ur down low, the only way is up!

  38. Ps I tried not to care about smaller stuff as long as I was not abused.while I went thru hell, I never would have ventured out of my former school had I not gotten 3020a
Every school is different.i was fine with the shit school till the psychotic witch set me up.well I wouldnt want to be in her shoes when it's time to face the maker.i hope I get to see her burn in hell though. Just being very honest!but it led to a place where I can stay working longer and I love going to work.hang in!
