I wouldn’t give any of my money to the UFT. I believe they would take a cut. Why? If they’d sit back silently and watch their members walk into highly infectious schools for a three day training to save the automatic due checkoff, basically trading teachers lives for money, why would anyone trust them with donations to the poor? They are the lowest of the low. Money and power is all the UFT cares about. Please contribute to the poor, not to the UFT.
Well James, “They aren’t that corrupt”?! What do you find more egregious - the very real possibility that the UFT is capable of stealing from the poor or that the UFT intentionally allowed its members to risk their lives because they didn’t want to lose money? In my opinion, if they would do something so despicable on a large scale, they would do it on a small one as well. Ask your brother the cop how many murderers and rapists they caught evading transit fares (you know when murder and rape was still a crime here in NYC).
They are not stealing your donations. We FeedNY money is feeding people. The UFT raised $300,000 yesterday. Good cause. There is absolutely zero evidence that Anthony Harmon or anyone working on disaster relief at the UFT is doing anything crooked with your donations. This thread is just depressing. Cut it out.
Yeah, it is depressing. It’s depressing because so many teachers feel that that UFT cannot be trusted even with a donation for the poor. Just contemplating that speaks volumes to what’s going to happen next June. I’m sure you’re correct that individual kind hearted volunteers in the UFT would never do what Mulgrew and friends did or are capable of doing. Thank you to those individual volunteers in the Uft that proves that somewhere in that organization there are still people with hearts. Happy Valentine’s Day.
I won’t contribute to anything affiliated with the UFT. Even if it’s a good cause. The UFT is poison. Agree James. It is depressing. But not one dime of my money to anything the UFT touches. I can make charitable donations to a food pantry that the UFT has nothing to do with. It’s not beneath their character to steal from the poor even if there is no evidence suggesting they do,
I don't think anyone is accusing them of stealing but there is a consequence for a lost reputation. Too many dues payers don't trust the UFT. That lack of trust causes some of us to disregard their calls to donate to the charities they select. I'll assume you are right and Anthony Harmon is a good guy doing good things but as I said the consequence of the UFT's lost credibility is that I always ignore their selected causes. My donation would mean I find the UFT credible. I just don't. My local church food pantry gets my donation instead.
Donate to who you want to but the hatred and lack of trust in the UFT cannot obscure the reality that the UFT raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to get meals to people this weekend. That is a positive development.
