This is from Gothamist:
Less than a month after leaving the nation’s largest school district, former New York City Schools Chancellor Richard Carranza has a new job at a Silicon Valley e-learning platform. According to a company press release, Carranza will be the Chief of Strategy and Global Development at IXL Learning in San Mateo, California.
Carranza left his job at the helm of the city’s public schools system in March, saying he needed to take time to grieve the loss of 11 loved ones and close friends to the coronavirus. His abrupt departure came during the school system’s fraught process of reopening amidst the pandemic.
I don't blame Carranza for taking a new position when it was available. What a shock that he was not being totally honest when he resigned as Chancellor, or perhaps the new job offer helped him get over his grief.
This guy has one skill for sure: he knows how to land jobs.
Well, Carranza’s former boss—will be looking for a new job too. De Blasio will be wasting his time and money if he decides to run for Governor, Instead, maybe he can land a gig at MSNBC.
ReplyDeleteWell, Carranza’s former boss—will be looking for a new job too.come November. De Blasio will be wasting his time and money if he decides to run for Governor, Instead, maybe he can land a gig at MSNBC.
ReplyDeleteAnybody who is pissed at Caranza is just a sour puss. How many of us would LOVE to get out of the DOE and take a job that pays 3 times as much with no bullshit hassle? Good for him.
ReplyDeleteIt's very bad character and in poor taste to use the deaths of your family and friends as a reason to leave your job when it wasn't true. I would have respected him a lot more if he just said he didn't want to work for the doe anymore.
ReplyDeleteAll chancellors under mayoral control are merely puppets. DeBlasio will make a run at governor. As awful as he is, he’s better than Cuomo. DeBlasio has held off charter schools, while Cuomo has catered to them.
ReplyDeleteAnybody who can get out of the DOE and get a better job can and should. This job has turned to shit over the past 20 years. Just look at all the veteran teachers licking their lips at a possible early retirement incentive. Also take a look at all the newbies on Facebook trying to transfer to other schools. (Like they are gonna find another DOE school that is actually any better.) The best scheme for a newbie NYC teacher is to work a few years in the DOE and then try and get a teaching job in Westchester or Long Island.
ReplyDelete100 percent agreed. I started in 1997 and those were good days. Then in 2014 Danielson came on board and it was a demoralization of the teaching force in NYC.Since then teachers have ran away from the city mostly to the suburbs. I do endorse encouraging young teachers to move to greener pastures as soon as the opportunity is available. I have 24 years in and ERI or No ERI I am leaving in Jan 2022.
DeleteI hear they need a new Bozo the Clown. Seems like a perfect job for de Blasio.
ReplyDeleteSorry for side question James but is there a way to actually become an ATR? I have seen questions on this time to time. I have friends who have been ATR's for 6 and 7 or more years. I'm sick of their stories of how they do nothing and have no classes and so on. I can't take it anymore and now they are not getting observed. Is there a way to ask to become an ATR? How does someone get to be this lucky? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteGet excessed. You are an ATR. I was an ATR for three months. I felt useless. Was so happy when I got a regular gig again. I answered his question. Try to stay on topic.
ReplyDelete4:45: I'm an ATR and I hate it. It's good for someone who doesn't like teaching but still wants to earn a paycheck, but not good for someone who likes teaching. Whatever school you are placed in, you are lowest on the totem pole and you lose all your Seniority rights. I've been looking for a position for 2 + years and still haven't found anything. I'd gladly switch with you if it were possible. It would be good if each teacher was rotated in and out of the ATR for a year, that way everyone would get a well deserved break. I do feel like sometimes I'm on a full year sabbatical at full pay without having to take any classes. This year has been better as my school gave me a full schedule. Just because you are an ATR doesn't mean you are free from observations.
ReplyDelete@ the person who wishes to become an atr- good luck!!
ReplyDeleteyou can ask your principal to excess you, but it goes in reverse senority, lifo.
i know from experience, as i asked my principal to excess me recently, after picking my up as a ATR w/out my consent
And the current Chancellor will probably exit in January when the new Mayor takes over. The Klein/Walcott lasted about 12 years—seems like an eternity ago.
ReplyDeleteThe Chancellor should have been honest and said he does not agree with DeBlasio's handling of the Corona virus and that he believed that we should all be safe at home. I believe he did not agree with DeBlasio and new he would be gone next January anyway.
ReplyDeleteDeblasio should spend a year as a teacher or a NYC cop. This will be the only way he can understand all that is required for such low pay and respect.
We’ve had one loser chancellor after another for decades. Porter will continue the tradition and so will her replacement. Is it really at all surprising that a former nyc chancellor is an opportunist looking to cash in by taking a job in a silicone valley position that allows him to push their lefty education agenda?. DeBlasio will never be Gov of NY but I sure do hope he runs.

According to the CDC, the highest risk factor for covid hospitalization, ventilation, and death is OBESITY.
ReplyDeleteAs a matter of FACT, 78% of those who were ventilated or died from covid were obese.
Hoping to get excessed then. ATR seems like an easy/fun gig.
ReplyDelete5:04: Be careful what you hope for.
