Don't miss the Educators of NYC forum on school reopening is coming on Tuesday. Representatives from the various UFT caucuses along with community leaders will be on the Zoom. This is the kind of conversation the UFT should be having.
Here is a link to sign up for the event.
The panelists are some real top flight thinkers in NYC education.
The UFT isn’t even part of the conversation. What does that say? I guess we can infer that it means they don’t care. We could also infer that they are completely oblivious to everything that goes on with their members and their members’ environment. When that type of apathy is shown, from the highest echelons of an organization that is monetarily and professionally supported by teachers, there is an urgent need for radical change.
ReplyDeleteYo! Folks need to get with the fact that schools are going to be 100% open 5 days a week in September. Yes, 3 foot distance/6 foot distance, and masks will still be required.
ReplyDeleteGood job democrats of convincing everyone the vaccine works by having a mask and distance policy that is never ending. It’s almost as if they’re trying to convince us the vaccines are useless. Saw an interesting interview on Eric Weinstein’s podcast about the possible cons of vaccinating against a new virus in the middle of a pandemic. It’s not an anti vaccine podcast. Both scientists are pro vaccines. It’s 2 scientists discussing some of the science related to vaccinations and asking questions worthy of exploration. Weinstein’s point in having this guest on was promoting an honest science based conversation on vaccines. He’s not trying to convince people to do anything.
ReplyDeleteWhy don’t we shuffle school staff in schools close to each other? One school no vaccine necessary. The other school it is. This way the mandate vaccine proponents can all hang out together and leave the rest of us alone. I’m vaccinated and more worried about being shot to death in Times Square or pushed onto a subway track than dying of COVID. I’ll work in either school.
ReplyDeleteI like ur idea1
ReplyDeleteCan we get any more ridiculous than having vaccinated and unvaccinated schools? We are not going to get close to the immunity we need until close to everyone who can,, is vaccinated.. Just shut up, do your part and get vaccinated so all of us can be safe and live normally. Vaccines work and the scientific community based on trials has said they are safe.
ReplyDeleteLook at the 5/14 paycheck, we didn't even get the raise but they raised the dues, what a joke!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt’s in the next check. They did the same thing last year, but you’re right about raising dues. Why isn’t that prorated like our pay. I guess someone has to pay for Mulgrew’s chauffeur.
DeleteWhat ever shape or form NYC public schools are when they reopen—hopefully with as many adults and students vaccinated—one big change has to happen. It appears that this Covid 19 could very well be the start of other unknown and deadly viruses that will emerge over the next few years and beyond. So students must be trained in science as their future depends upon it. There has to be a greater emphasis on worthwhile science and math instruction—starting with elementary through high school. Many NYC middle schools have cut back on about 25% of science instruction. Many high schools don’t offer chemistry or physics.—because of a shortage of science teachers and many students lack the necessary skills—which is a tragedy. There are studies that have predicted a shortage of doctors, nurses and other important hospital staff in the USA for several years.
ReplyDeleteBut as many students as possible have to be trained and instructed on the validity of science from the earliest age possible —so though won’t fall into the trap of the non-believers.
@3:12 pm...absolutely right but this makes too much sense so it's a no go
DeleteThe raise starts on the 14th, will be in full on the next check. They didn't raise my dues, I paid zero. Lol. Shit service. No thanks. But good luck.
ReplyDeleteThings are really disheartening.
ReplyDeleteI have no faith that anything educators say regarding re-opening in September will even be considered. DeBlasio and his minions will do whatever they want. Mulgrew will do whatever he wants.
The NYC DOE schools are a gigantic failure. The DOE swamp needs to be drained; all of them, from the Mayor, the chancellor, the superintendents, on down to incompetent school administrators. These people have proved, year after year, that they only know how to achieve failure and waste billions.
All for science.unforrunately the scientists who have courage and integrity to speak the truth or censored and threatened.need to teach kids to think critically.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see Michael Kane included. He's been at the forefront of the lawsuits against forced testing and vaccinations for teachers.
ReplyDeleteAs for September: no more Google classroom, no more zoom, no more A/B cohorts, no more "NX", no more masks.
4:47 is right. Don’t tell me to trust the science when legit doctors and scientists are censored. Open the debate. I can handle critiquing dissenting opinions on my own. I don’t need anyone censoring on my behalf. Vaccinated btw. NYC has no interest in producing critical thinkers. They’d rather produce little commie ‘wannabes’ . States rejecting CRT may have a shot at seriously educating their kids. If not, we’re going to have to continue to steal steal medical staff from countries that don’t focus on social agendas in their academic institutions.
ReplyDeleteMy Chinese neighbor told me that this government is worse than China as far as censorship!shocking.our democracy rights are fading away.while we fight wars to "liberate"other governments, ours becomes increasingly oppressive.if you offer another opinion, you are deplatformed, stripped of your license, your office is trashed, files seized...silences, or unfortunately ELIMINATED.eg death of mysterious causes. As far is in the general public, you a few e "cancelled."what has become of the people??The crazy scary things I read sound like they are from a horror sci fi movie.like south Africa manipulating pathogens to depopulate the Blacks! I hope there exists a country that is not involved in this stuff.we must be in the last days cuz I dont want to imagine worse...will have to live on the moon or buy a private island and live off the land?this is madness.who knows? Maybe we are already poisoned and programmed to turn against each other cuz the world has gone nutso!
ReplyDeleteTJL,
ReplyDeleteGoogle Classrooms will remain. There will be some form of online instruction. Genie is out of the bottle. Remember.. no snow days. NXs aren't going away either. Kids will never be able to attain a failing grade moving forward. NX or 65+. They'll probably mandate that the lowest grade we give is a 55.
Good ventilation should be one of the primary things to focus on, Dr. David Michaels, an epidemiologist at George Washington School of Public Health and the head of the Occupation and Safety Health Administration during the Obama administration, told the Times. Dr. Linsey Marr, an aerosol expert at Virginia Tech, explained that "if you're in a poorly ventilated environment, virus is going to build up in the air, and everyone who's in that room is going to be exposed.’
ReplyDeleteSo the CDC has officially declared declared that poor circulation can greatly increase chances of the spread of Covid infection. How many NYC public school buildings have adequate ventilation? Who wants to be exposed ? Vaccinations should be mandatory for adults along with indoor masking. Hopefully, vaccines will also be available for all students by the summer. Follow the science.
10:54: The 55 minimum is already established at some schools even for missing or plagiarized work. Question is how will the colleges view NXs. Also, will kids get failing grades on Regents exams?
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of earning things...Can we get the spring break pay now?
ReplyDeleteBiden admin releases $12.7B for NY state, $4.3B for NYC in COVID stimulus https://trib.al/sv9vaUQ
Spring break pay? It would factor in the FAS for people retiring soon.
ReplyDeleteLet us get the 2020 spring break pay for the sake of pension.
WOuldn't we have to give back the 4 sick days we got for Spring Break? I don't care but isn't this true and how would they do this?
ReplyDeleteNo, 7 days equal 14 sick days. And those were for holy days.
