LUMP SUM PAYMENT DUE TODAY

Today is the due day for the final payment of what was basically an interest-free loan UFTers made to the city for work we did as far back as 2009. The city and UFT agreed in October to postpone half of the final payment so the money would be paid with the second payroll in July. That I gather turned out to be too difficult so July 22 was the new pay date.

The UFT left it to Amy Arundell to respond to members complaining about why the money promised for July 22 has not yet been deposited into member bank accounts.

My understanding is retirees will wait until August to get their July money and the final per session lump sum will also apparently violate the agreed to July date.

Update:

Please be reminded and remind our members that:

Supp checks do not show in the portal until several days after issuance.

Direct deposit checks do not post at dawn to bank accounts.  The earliest it will show is after 1:30 PM and many will take a day or two to show.  Members should be told that if the check doesn’t post by Monday they should contact us.

Thank you – and I truly appreciate you!!!!

I’m here if you need me

  1. This is really unacceptable.

  2. Hmmmm, Amy says that "Trust is low". This is coming from someone who works full time at the UFT. At least they are aware that WE DO NOT TRUST THEM!

    ReplyDelete
  3. TRUST IS LOW!?!?!?
    I wonder why?!?!

    ReplyDelete
  4. I assume we will get paid today... but I still think this is/was wage theft.

  5. I really could not believe that we learned about them not giving us the money 7 days before we were supposed to be paid in October...by looking in payroll portal. The UFT gets absolutely no respect from the city and has not earned its member's respect. I waited 12 years for this money! If you put the $6000 I was supposed to be getting today in Variable A it would be worth nearly $24,000 today! Even in the Fixed it would it would be worth double! This is a just absolutely deplorable and the UFT is a disgrace!

Bad days are ahead---worse days! Eric Adam's does not respect schools or teachers, he really is an incompetent. The Mayor ballooned the budget, used up the stimulus, and the forward budget includes billions in deficits- all while allocating two years of 0% raises for all employees and 1% raises in the third year...WHILE INFLAITION IS 5-7%.

Dr. Seuss had it right in "How the Grinch Stole Christmas"

All their windows were dark. Quiet summer filled the air.
All the Whos(UFT members) were all dreaming sweet dreams without care.
Mulgrew slunked away from a fight and left them to be robbed in the night.

"PoohPooh to the UFT!" he was grinchishly humming.
"They're finding out now that no Christmas is coming!"
The money owed from November 2009 was gone.
"They're just waking up! I know just what they'll do!"
"Their mouths will hang open a minute or two,
Then the Whos down in Whoville will all cry BooHoo!"
"That's a noise," grinned the Grinch, "That I simply MUST hear!"
So he paused. And the Grinch put his hand to his ear.
And he did hear a sound rising over the snow.
It started in low. Then it started to grow.
But the sound wasn't sad! Why, this sound sounded merry!
It couldn't be so! But it WAS merry! VERY!
He stared down at the UFT! The Grinch popped his eyes!
Then he shook! What he saw was a shocking surprise!
Every Who down in Whoville, the tall and the small,
Was singing! Without any presents at all!
He HADN'T stopped Christmas from coming! IT CAME!

Brainwashed fools will still sing the praises of the UFT still!

  6. “Our members have been made whole,” said UFT President Michael Mulgrew.

Teachers should take a class on inflation, erosion and compounding interest.

  8. I've been paid via direct deposit for years and I've never had to wait all day for a check...But they have until 11:59 PM tonight to make it happen right? Hmmmm

It's my money and I need it now! - Like 12 years ago...

I told people on the job that watch there be some type of drama with this last portion of the retro just like last October when they said that there was no money due to the pandemic...Now it's a new fiscal year and the mayor has also been receiving money to waste on some unnecessary things...

Just pay us what you owe...

Where's Mulgrew or our leaders from the districts "updating" us on this last payment? I guess they're on vacation too cause all I hear are crickets...

    ReplyDelete
  9. I remember a lot of people voted for this contract because they promised us full retro despite it being over almost a decade long in payments. People were worried if we didn't vote yeah we wouldn't get full retro. By the time I always get this money, it's already spent in my head. I heard the government really pulled one over on people on taxes this year.

  10. I trust Amy completely. It's not like she ever said in a meeting:
"Its our job to protect the overall health of the overall system."

Oh wait, she did. Don't worry, I'm sure the DOE has your back Amy, just as you have ours.

    Love,
    a CL

  11. This is such garbage. Has anyone been paid? Why would the UFT not communicate how we were supposed to get paid?

    ReplyDelete
  12. We have been cheated very badly by the UFT in collusion with the New York City DOE.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Show me the money! If my credit union does not deposit funds by 7:30 am on the day its due, nothing "kicks in" sometime in the late afternoon.

This is a crock of crap!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Where's my money!?!?

    ReplyDelete
  15. And yet, so many of the members readily accepted that crap sandwich of a contract years ago because of the $1K bonus. The only members who benefitted from that contract were the ones who retired immediately afterwards and collected what they were owed in total. It's funny how the members are now so outraged now. You voted for it. And we continue to show other municipal unions how not to deal with the city. Because no other union was stupid enough to do what we have done, over and over.

  16. Since when does direct deposit not post at dawn? I'm direct deposit with regular pay, per session monies and the United States Department of Veteran's Affairs as I am a disabled combat vet. Every pay day the money is there by 7:30 am. If the VA can get it right, there is no excuse as to why this clusterfu%& needs to occur.

  19. Finally..money's in the bank

    ReplyDelete
  20. My friend is Chase Bank. His hit. I'm New York Community Bank, nothing yet. This is insane

    ReplyDelete
  21. @1:06. I imagine not, but it should be good to know its coming

    ReplyDelete
  22. It's your bank fault now, not the doe. They have given the banks the money. If you don't have yours yet, I would consider choosing a different bank in the future. It is well known some banks deposit very fast.. Maybe switch to them?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Never had an issue with my bank and depositing. Always in very fast except for today at this moment

    ReplyDelete
  24. Chase for example sometimes deposits your regular checks a day early. When the deposit date is a Monday, they get their checks Friday or Saturday. So it was expected to see them post the retro first.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Sixteen years of working for the city, never had an issue with getting my direct deposit. Always in my account the same day and sometimes over the weekend if payday fell on a Monday...But at 2:10pm - no $$ yet...

    ReplyDelete
  26. Doubt you had many supplemental checks. They are issued same day.. Not like payroll set up to deposit days in advanced.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Let's be clear. This is not any bank's fault. The corrupt DOE is the one that OWES US MONEY. It is their responsibility to ensure we receive it in a timely fashion. If we can get our paychecks direct deposited at 6/7 AM on payday, why would this be a different situation? The answer is simple: IT SHOULDN'T. This is one last F U to all of us. They literally want us to wait and beg for this money and the proof is in the fact that they did not want to give it to us in the first place. I have personally spoke to my bank and they have no pending/received funds from the DOE and it is after 2 PM. I refuse to blame them. It is the DOE's fault.

    ReplyDelete
  28. p.s. Now payroll portal won't load. What a sh*tshow as always.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'm having a good laugh reading the comments on Facebook and taxes. People literally have no idea how a progressive tax system works. Worse.. We are teachers and are in charge with teaching our students this system and how it works. The amount of comments I've read about getting more taken out in taxes when combined with regular check vs stand alone is troubling. How do we not know we are taxed the same based on when you reach a specific dollar amount? You still pay the big guy the same at end of year. And don't get me started on you would rather give the govt more money now in taxes then get a refund.. You're literally saying you don't want your money know to invest or save cause you can't trust yourself to spend it and Therefore would rather give he govt an interest free loan for a year.

    I can't!

    ReplyDelete
  30. YOU KNOW WHAT I FIND INTERESTING? I find it interesting that so many NYC teachers are complaining about their retro today but where the hell were these folks when the UFT agreed to f*ck up our medical retirement benefits? My guess is that a ton of teachers are waiting for this last retro check and then they are gonna get the hell out of the DOE. Everything that Mulgrew/Unity has pulled in the last few years has finally come back to haunt him. With the rise of the internet, he can't hide in the ivory tower at 52 Broadway anymore. And forget the corrupt DOE. They have been like that since the early 2000's.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I know we have been waiting 12 years, but have we been paid yet?

    ReplyDelete
  32. My bank told me they haven't received funds for any DOE employees today. NOT ONE. Customers are contacting them left and right, checking on pending transactions and NADA. So basically they have not even attempted to keep their word and pay us on time.

    ReplyDelete
  33. This might help someone. Call your bank automated phone system to check your balance. I received my retro payment today. However, the "funds" do not appear on my bank's online banking website.

    ReplyDelete

  40. 2:39 I voted against that contract.my coworkers thought it was the best we could get and if we rejected it, we might get worse...not a peep from uft.website says it wud b there late in day.but 5pm is the COB.are they doing this to make money on the float?will it be like this every payday now since they delayed 683 as well??683 final check is late date this summer as well.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Not mine. 7:14 PM, no stub, no deposit.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Still not in my bank acct and I checked by phone and online. Hope it goes in there tmw morning then

    ReplyDelete
  43. Almost 8 pm and STILL NOTHING. Imagine we owed the DOE money or even paperwork and were late with it. It would be an automatic write up, suspension, trip to the rubber room, and/or termination. Why do we pay union dues? Please remind me. I can't believe we have not gotten an email from DOE or UFT. We really are not protected or respected by either entity.

    ReplyDelete
  44. It's all bullshit. https://southbronxschool.blogspot.com/2021/07/the-uft-enables-doe-to-screw-members.html

  45. "Trust is low".
    Go figure.

    Dear Amy,
    Trust and respect is earned.
You, Mulgrew and the rest of Unity continue to betray those whom you are supposed to represent. It is a shame that money takes the place of self-respect and morals in your life. When your end comes what did you really buy that was worth your soul?

    Your friend,
    A respected CL.

    ReplyDelete
  46. 10:32PM still waiting for Retro, wish when it's time to pay union dues, they delay taking it out my paycheck. What a joke.

  47. My wife and I are both teachers. I get a paper check and she uses an online bank. Neither of us have gotten any notice on when the money will come to us. She just looked online and nothing yet. What about people who get paper checks?

  48. It is now 12:06 AM, July 23rd. Nothing in my account. But, I expected this since Ch683 pay was transferred to my account a day late. Never a problem with regular pay, but now it's the bank's fault. Please, stop with the bs. We know better.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Wow , such great spokes person we have from our Union. This is bull....lets face it ,our union is full of it.The city should pay us interest on that portion of our money .After all, it has been only 12 years late.

  50. Check finally came in a couple hrs ago to my vank...so I guess those who didn't get yesterday will prob get today

  51. July 23. Just deposited.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I received my pay, but the whole process was upsetting. We waited twelve years to be made ‘whole’ with zero interest. In a real job in the real world that never would have happened.

When any of you ask me why I am a ‘fake it until I make it guy’ who doesn’t put much effort into the job please remember times like this.

A crap contract, kids who know they will be promoted no matter what and admins who only talk to you when you are in the doghouse.

But, you have to take the good with the bad. Today, I’m doing my secondary job on my time, going to the beach and working out when people who work real jobs are busting their butt for similar money to what we make.

Work the doe. Don’t let the doe work you

    ReplyDelete
  53. On Payroll Portal as of 7am, I'm pleased to report!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Found my money in my account this morning. I would never say I was made whole but since I am a glass half full person I will say this. Take home, when compared to the Oct 12.5% being combined with the regular paycheck, is 24.2% higher for this check. I thought they combined my per session but it was the same adjustment so I still have last retro per session coming. If I had received this when it was first agreed upon it would be long gone now so no complaints this morning.

    ReplyDelete
  55. The stub is posted on payroll portal now.

    ReplyDelete
  56. My check is less than the October amount... Is this supposed to happen?

    ReplyDelete
  57. 716. If i had received this I would have had it in my tda earning 7% for the last 12 years or in my mutual fund which has averaged 9% for the past 15 years. No, Amy I don’t fucking trust you. I don’t trust you because like all Unity members, you’re a lying pos.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Thank God it's finally over. Never have to listen to complaining about retro ever again. I know the city will never do this again. I'm thankful we were able to recoup at least something from that Bloomberg clusterf*ck. Yay

    ReplyDelete
  59. @9:27
Did you increase your TDA by any chance? I had lowered my TDA percentage compared to October and received more in this retro vs October.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Seriously considering cutting ties w union... Done being taken for granted.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Now we have to wait for the back pay from Spring Break 2020. We might see it paid to us over 12 years.

    ReplyDelete
  62. “The city will never do this again…” hahaha of course they will…. In about 2034 after we’ve gone several years with 0% raises and the next slate of mayoral candidates wants to pretend to be friendly to labor. Fuck you, UFT, I’m still complaining.

    ReplyDelete
  63. @ Friday, July 23, 2021 9:27:00 AM. You think it’s done? Wake up and smell the coffee. The money that paid for the retro was shrouded by DeBlasio and Mulgrew emptying, yes raiding the stabilization fund. This is the fund that holds the NYC money that feeds our and every other municipal unions welfare fund. The retiree health care is slated to change on January 1, 2022 through very suspicious and closed door dealings to either diminished coverage with a for profit private insurance company or coverage that will require a monthly fee with copays to the same private insurance company. You’re not done because this will hit every rank and file member in every single municipal union when they reach that age. Mulgrew has sold the entire municipal labor force out with his machinations. The media won’t touch it except we managed to get this and the article was published before the delĂ  was signed:
    https://www.newsweek.com/new-york-city-unions-whose-backdoor-deal-sold-out-retirees-helped-insurance-industry-1604661

Deep deep corruption is what paid for the retro in a city that has been run by an amateur in way over his head. NYC has no one minding the store. Comptroller Stringer’s fax machine is shut off, his intake staff is down from 31 to 6. And you think it’s done?

    ReplyDelete
  64. 927...also last check was combined with 10-30 paycheck.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Anyone else notice how they slated in a generic estimated (nobody knows the exact date) timeline for the per-session retro? Many high school coaches who coach multiple varsity teams are due at least another $1,000 in per-session retro.

Also, someone stated their net retro pay was higher this time around. The previous retro was combined with our regular paycheck, boosting most of us for that paycheck into a higher tax bracket for payroll's calculations (you would be in a different tax bracket if your salary was double what it is now). This check was most likely taxed at your normal rate, as it was pretty close to a "regular" paycheck.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Is this like when they told James to seek a job to get out of the ATR and then after he did, they gave everyone else $50K to retire?
    Or like March 2020?
Or like the Open Market fraud?
Or like the loss of 8.25% TDA?
Or like 10% backloaded and delayed raises over 7.5 years?

Nice job Mr. Rank and File.

    ReplyDelete
  67. My take home pay was significantly higher from last October. I know it's because of the tax bracket but I like to claim it's because I get a special exemption for paying my union dues to fire up the anti-dues crowd.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Thanks for reminding the anti dues crowd. How much did the uft rip from you yesterday. $150? Money well spent, right?

      Delete
    2. 41 dollars in dues... Well worth it.

      Delete
  68. Friendly reminder that the UFT has been double dipping into these payments by charging dues for money that was already supposed to be in your paychecks for which you already paid dues. UFT has been double dipping and we should get our money back or just opt out.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Friendly reminder that the opt out argument is not for comments here. We debated it and it's over. I do agree the UFT double dipping in lump sum payments is outrageous. We need new UFT leaders.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Everyone should donate their retro money in solidarity... Oh wait..

    ReplyDelete
  71. Still no money! I use Ally Bank and it's usually the same time as everyone else, but while the stub online shows I was paid it is still not credited to my account. This never happens with persession or any other payments.

  73. Great After waiting 8 years I finally got my money. Next raise not till September 2022.
I cannot understand how unity keeps winning elections. Only thing I can think of is that the membership likes to get screwed as often and as frequently as possible. Well thats ok with me because I am retiring. And now I can say that in previous elections I would never vote unity.
But now that I am retiring I will vote unity. Why. Because I want to see all those active teachers continued to be screwed. And no party will do that more than unity.

    ReplyDelete
  74. There will be no raise in September of 2022 because the contract ends 9/13/22
