AFT POLL FINDS TEACHER DISSATISFACTION GROWING

Teachers are not happy with their working conditions. Here is some poll data to support this conclusion. The AFT uses Hart Research which is a respected polling company. When roughly 4 out of 5 teachers are dissatisfied,  something needs to be done. How about lowering class size for a start?

  1. Basically went back where it had been. Lots were satisfied during covid because they were remote and were getting a paychheck.

  6. The AFT has weingarten as a leader. You think she cares? Remember, we have crappy conditions mainly bc of her 2005 contract that she sold us.

Mulgrew is bad, but weingarten was horrendous.

  7. It's been horrible ever since Bloomberg was mayor. We still have to deal with his crap to this day.

  8. Teacher dissatisfaction is mostly due to the UFT and AFT under Mulgrew
and Weingarten. Their crappy contracts, their selling us out with Danielson observations and their contempt for rank and file members has
made teaching a job from hell.

If Weingarten actually did her job of standing up for teachers instead of her self promotion, teachers would have job satisfaction.
Maybe she is pro-charter/privatization and anti-public school.
    Weingarten was chummy with Bloomberg.
Remember the newspaper photographs of Weingarten and Bloomberg.
Weingarten is one of the most disgusting phonies of our generation.
She is a narcissistic, self centered traitor.

  9. We don’t still have to deal with Bloomberg’s crap. It’s no longer his crap. He gave it to DeBlasio who refused to flush it. Then the crap was passed off to Adams. Is Adams going to flush the crap? If not, it’s all his crap now.

  10. Thanks for this all important article. This proves the uft is not doing the job they are paid to do. This proves we aren't teaching, students aren't learning, and we are babysitters...As long as you don't treat the fake grad rate as gospel.

    ReplyDelete
  11. 1:51. Not everyone was busting their ass. That’s why teachers were most satisfied when school buildings were closed. No one says they’re satisfied if their job just got more difficult. If you care about kids keep schools open with a remote option decided by parents and don’t force mask.

  12. Although the specifics of the poll (which I cannot access) considers grade levels, I would love to see that poll broken down by years on the job as well. In other words, satisfaction through the recent years for rookies, established teachers, veterans, and those on the verge of retirement.
Do any of you think that would vary or would it be irrelevant?
    Regards to all.

  13. I’ll say one thing, very, very few teachers will be available to teach in the next 5 to 10 years. The colleges have very few students who hate themselves enough to join their education programs in hopes of becoming a teacher. We’re going to see a major decrease in the teacher requirements over the next few years. They will make teaching just script reading and babysitting for slightly more than minimum wage. Perhaps, they will even farm it out to private prison inmates who have been incarcerated for non-sexual offenses. Weingarten and Mulgrew will easily transition into their roles as wardens for their new constituencies at even higher monetary rewards. The only thing that may save the teaching profession is if we have a major depression, where people are extremely desperate and on the verge of starving.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I read in Diane Ravitch's blog that Idaho did away with teacher certification exams and requirements. Basically all you need to teach in Idaho is a 4 year college degree and fingerprints.

    ReplyDelete
  15. My experience as an old timer…. Young teachers come in thinking they can save the world and all the new fangled techniques will be successful. Many are arrogant. By spring of their first year I find them crying in the bathroom. They are humbled so forgiving veteran teachers help them. Others look on them with contempt just the way the new teachers looked at them in Sept. Karma for some. Mercy for some. Thems the breaks.

  16. OT:

Has anyone noticed copays are going up? I am a working teacher, so this isn’t a retiree issue. I just got some Emblem Health Summary forms and copay column is ridiculously high.

  17. I would not recommend this job to anyone. Randi Weingarten does not teach. Has no idea how toxic this job has become. Its time to change this. Make the union heads teach.

    ReplyDelete
  18. 11:27 that's just ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  19. 6:16 Randi has tweeted no such thing, certainly not on a daily basis. Trump is irrelevant and becoming more so every day. If he doesn't get arrested he should kiss the ground he walks on.

    ReplyDelete
  20. 12:46: Yes that is because young people get a distorted view of what teachers are like. When you are behind the desk as a student, you only see the good and a little bit of the bad, but you don't see the ugly. Also the media glamorizes teaching. We see all these movies about teachers that were able to reach students like Music of the Heart, Dangerous Minds, Freedom Writers, Stand and Deliver. Also shows like Abbott Elementary also make teaching look like fun. Do you ever see the teachers there dealing with attendance issues and kids years below where they should be in reading and writing? Media will never show a movie or tv show that really shows what teaching is because teachers are not the ones writing the scripts.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Dawkins: your post assumes that anyone not in the teaching profession gives a damn about what teachers think
    I assure you, they dont

    ReplyDelete
  22. Randi is toxic because she has made the teaching profession toxic by selling out to the Koch brothers, Michael Bloomberg and Bill Gates.
They have indoctrinated her to think only for the privatization
    of public schools.

    ReplyDelete
  23. 8:56, I assure you it is not. I have several friends who are college professors who have told me that their colleges are contemplating doing away with their entire education departments because of lack of interest from students towards teaching. As the numbers decrease to critical levels there will be a push by companies like Bloomberg’s beloved Pearson for computer learning without the need of a teacher. The pandemic’s Zoom vastly accelerated the process to the extent that we have many groups wanting that option now under the very real reaction to unsafe schools.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Also, more students graduated with remote teaching.

I'm not this poster but would love to know how this is racist. It was brought up, a million times, that Randi and Mulgrew don't do the job they are paid to do. Randi is clearly a left wing hack. Randi posts all days about how good Biden is. Randi posts all day about Trump. Someone said that Randi posts about Trump crim, so it's fine. The poster asked why that's the only crime she chooses to post about. The poster mentioned black on black crime, which I rampant, and harms out students, who are 80% minority. She also doesn't mention 9% inflation, which hurts the middle and lower class the most. Or the open border which takes jobs away from minorities. Or the drugs that are killing our children. Why? You can be a democrat, but an honest one. Some one says she doesn't say anything about grade fraud and is immediately told they don't teach. How do you know that?

  66. 3:55 oh please. You're so transparent. Whatever you are, you are a sanctimonious fool who thinks you can try and teach liberal children to hate themselves and love Republicans. Good riddance red hatter.

    1. Thank you for your respectful and level headed comment. God bless and please take care of your anger issues. Nothing better than getting the simple minded liberal mad. Enjoy the rest of your career my friend with a different color hat.

    3. @8:40 your comment wasn't respectful or level headed. Didnt sound like the post of a person filled with peace and joy. Youre not only angry you sound bitter. Old and bitter.

  67. 3:55 you don't see individuals. Apparently you see political affiliation in everyone and everything and paint with very broad brushes. You prove that you're a hypocrite. How exactly does one have a "respectful discussion" when your opening shot is "the liberal has a mental disorder"? You want a "respectful discussion". LOL. GTFOOH. You're just another pompous narrow minded fool who hurls insults and then feign ignorance when you're insulted right back. But as long as you say "God Bless" that makes you righteous. NOT.

  68. 8:40 <---another one bites the dust. Your little sanctimonious act was dismantled and went POOF. Saw right through you, and for that you think someone is "mad". If that makes you feel better have at it. Seek help for your rabid obsession and anger issues with liberals.

    1. I will seek help, I’m actually on my way now. You should have been a doctor. Good luck my non red hatter and as always God bless, you guys are going to need it with the great liberal politicians in charge of everything for so long in New York. You always have the governor of California to come rescue to save this once great country. Hopefully it’s before china takes over. To be honest I do wish all my colleagues in the doe all the best , most of the time I’m just pulling your leg. You don’t last 27yrs in this system without learning something from colleagues of all political, economic, social, religious and ethnic persuasions. God bless

  69. 12:44 I guess we can finally agree on one thing "you don't last without learning from colleagues of all political, economic, social and religious and ethnic persuasions". I believe that in and out of the DOE.

I can't believe I have to say this:
If you don't invest more into retaining
    current teachers instead of recruiting
new teachers- the "new" teachers will eventually leave, too.

  73. This blog, through no fault of its author, has devolved into not much more than people hurling insults at each other.

  74. There are many reasons for our current teacher shortage. The situation in Australia is but a part of a world wide shortage. That said, this article by Nicole Mockler points to some important local factors. Any community that publicly bashes teachers set themselves up for great difficulties one generation later.
