BLUE CROSS-BLUE SHIELD WITHDRAWS FROM MULGREWCARE

This came from UFT President Michael Mulgrew and Retired Teachers Chapter Leader Tom Murphy earlier today:

Anthem, the parent company of BlueCross BlueShield, has notified New York City that it is withdrawing from the proposed retiree health care plan.

The City and the Municipal Labor Committee are exploring their options for continuing to develop a unique Medicare Advantage plan for retired employees. We will keep you informed as the process goes forward, but we want to assure you that the UFT is never going to stop fighting to preserve premium-free health coverage.

Translation: Mulgrew is not through trying to privatize our healthcare.

Teachers of NYC commented on Twitter:

@UFTUnity it’s time to bury Mulgrewcare. This foolishness needs to end.

49 comments:

  1. In service members should pay very close to what Mulgrew does with healthcare in the upcoming expiring UFT fall contract..
He will probably screw the in-service members too —and then claim it’s the best health coverage on the planet.

  2. Mulgrew works for the Democratic party which supports privatization of Medicare.

Mulgrew does not work for better health care plans for the rank and file.

Your active and retiree medical costs will increase over time and your access to medical procedures will be reduced under a Medicare Advantage plan. Privatization means profit and cost savings from you. There is a pay for play incentive for the Democrats to do Medicare Advantage conversions. The medical insurance industry contributes to the campaigns of Democrats. The politicians pay them back with privatization of Medicare. You end up paying.

You would do much better with Medicare for all.

Mulgrew is deceitful and dishonest. I do not understand why teachers
voted for him in the election.

  3. This is where James says, even though dems run all nyc and nationwide government, and the doe situation is so bad, it would still be worse with Republicans. A corporate dem is almost as bad, right? You have no shame.

    1. Well yeah. In an article just today, Conservatives are all over the country trying to pass laws regarding curriculum, they believe mental health programs are indoctrination and they want to diminish the influence of taxpayers' unions. I'd say that's worse.

    2. Dems? More like Democratic Socialists. James is a different branch of the same movement. Less refined.

  4. What am I missing? Whats wrong with premium free health coverage

  5. Your new health coverage will be just as good if not better than your current health coverage. The pattern continues.

  6. Murphy should break ranks with Mulgrew and show some integrity.

  10. Why do Conservatives come to a liberal union blog? There are no conservative blogs?

  14. So you're saying that Conservatives come to this Liberal blog to provoke readers with their inflammatory and insincere comments? Makes sense. Why else would they come?

    ReplyDelete
  15. The conservative trolls here have nothing to say on privatizing our healthcare or our schools because they support it.

  16. This is a union blog. The blogger is a liberal but UFT members are not all liberal. Why do so many people have melt downs over opposing viewpoints? If you’re personally attacking a commenter instead of the ideas written by the commenter, you’re the one starting trouble and sending this blog down a rabbit hole. So now back to topic. Of course Mulgrew is going to ruin our health coverage. His puppet masters demand it. And then teachers will vote to keep the puppet masters in office yet again. Some say vote for better democrats. We have a progressive caucus in the democrat party that could have forced M4A to a floor vote but they refused to do it. There don’t seem to be any better democrats. I no longer vote for democrats. They have abandoned the working and middle class. Mulgrew will never demand more for us until the party he works for loses teacher support at the ballot box and the political party that controls ny is forced to earn the teacher vote.

  17. 6:55 Wrong. What opposing ideas? That parents of children of color don't care? That liberals have a mental disorder? Those "ideas" will be attacked every time.

  18. @1103... it seems that 6:55 doesn't want a response to the ignorance spewed by the race baiters. In other words "just let me i mean them write their truth and everyone else just hush". Yeahhhh no.

  19. Waitingforsupport - exactly. Yet the responders are the ones sending the blog down a rabbit hole. But he's full of it in any case. The other day a poster wrote that they were happy with vdays and was blasted with some ridiculous satire about wanting to work for free (as if we didn't get paid for the week in the first place).

  20. 3:16 well of course you would say that because how many times did he bash Democrats? That's the favorite pastime on this board. Unions are a Democrat initiative - not Conservative. They HATE unions. They've done everything they could to marginalize, destroy, and would do away with unions altogether if they could, and they have in some places.

"Earlier this spring, for instance, as American Compass was just launching with blogs about family life in a work-obsessed culture, McConnell—who’s opposed increasing the minimum wage and heartily cheered the Supreme Court’s undermining of public sector unions—blocked federal aid to states struggling to cover public employees’ pensions during a pandemic. And though Donald Trump’s thundering about jobs and trade may have helped him win around 43 percent of union households in 2016, his presidency (like most other Republican administrations) has been defined by handouts to corporations and the wealthy."

  21. 3:14 - productive discussion? None of the productive discussion comes from Conservatives. Attacks, yes. Productive discussion, no. Fool!

  22. Democrats run ny, nyc, the doe and most nyc schools. Many of them are progressives. You’re getting the policies you voted for. This includes lowering standards in schools in the name of equity. When some of us point that out, you go nuts and start name calling.

    1. We voted for lower class sizes and no cuts, not for privatization and budget cuts.

  23. I’m middle of the road. I can break down liberal or conservative by subject area taught (on the HS level). History teachers - liberal, math teachers -conservative, English teachers - 50/50 liberal and conservative, science teachers - conservative, Spanish teachers - conservative, gym teachers - conservative (even the female lgbtq stereotypes). Elementary school teachers are too busy to think about it. Middle school teachers are barely hanging on by their fingernails for sanity. And based on 35 years of experience I’d have to say, liberal or conservative, the vast majority of Uft members do not vote in any union election that directly impacts them.

    1. 9:54 I guess it depends on the school. My school doesn't have a similar background.

    1. What we vote for is seldom what we get. Most politicians are narcissists in the pockets of donors. Adams is with his charter school donors. This is not all that complicated.

    1. @12:34 There may be some geographical discrepancies, as the Brooklyn math department I was part of was conservative. I have a theory the worse the neighborhood the more conservative the teachers. It sounds like something that should be studied by the Uft with a $50,000 grant to one of their favorite friends.

  27. Are you suggesting that Conservatives can't get hired at high performing schools?

    ReplyDelete
  28. 1147. I’m not 840 but my take is the worse the school the more easily the liberal teachers see that progressive education policies don’t work. Then the teachers become conservatives.

Waiting 4 support. If the only way you can prove someone’s idea is abhorrent or absurd or whatever point you’re trying to make is by calling the commenter a name, you’re proving nothing but that you know how to act like a bratty child. Pointing out that democrats who are black men are completely in charge of a school system and that white men are no longer running the nyc political show is not race baiting. In the past there was someone who would randomly post black crime statistics. Or a news report of some thug who was black. That’s race baiting. But when someone bashes the white guy on say violent crimes, it’s not race baiting to respond with a black or other race’s crime statistic on violent crimes. If you think that makes me a racist, it’s ok. I don’t need the approval of strangers.

11:03. There are no white kids in my school. There are many parents that don’t care. They are the parents of children of color. This doesn’t mean all parents of children of color don’t care. All thumbs are fingers. Not all fingers are thumbs. Saying liberals have a mental disorder is a bratty child comment not a viewpoint worthy of debate. I’m talking about legitimate ideas not name calling.

    1. 3:33, I stand by what I say and how I say it. I hope you know that your opinion means nothing to me. Like you, I too don't need the approval of others. The topic is clear as day: Healthcare. You're commenting about what i said to a commenter on a different topic thread which had nothing to do with the race. THAT commenter introduced race. Once again you choose to pop up with your tired "redirect efforts" covered in your own biases. Get your own blog so you can decide what you'd like published. Ps. My check style may not be to your liking but: Ask me if i care. Girl bye

  29. 3:33 "then they become conservatives". Ridiculous and fact-free opinion.

  30. Not waitingforsupport here but "pointing out that democrats who are black men are completely in charge of a school system and that white men are no longer running the nyc political show is not race baiting." Yeah, actually it is because you (or whoever it was) missed the entire point of the post. It was a stupid response to the commenter who was talking big picture, as they mentioned Presidents (Democrat and Republicans), Governors, and the demise of Democracy. Whoever it was just couldn't help taking a jab at leftist ideology (namecalling) and the two black men who haven't even been in the picture for year. It was stupid.

As for your response to 11:03, another dumb response and analogy. If you're not the person who makes blanket statements then it's not referring to you. I was referring to specific posters who are more likely to post "when the parents of children of color start protesting and caring, then I will care", and then bring up George Floyd THAT's race-baiting, regarding of what you think. That is not speaking of some of the parents of the children in their class. They (or you) make blanket statements when referring to parents of children of color. Why should anyone assume that they are speaking only of SOME of the parents of the children.

And guess what, we don't need your approval either.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Instead, 8:36, I’ll post what I want and you get to react how you want. When the parents of nyc start to demand change let me know. Their skin color is irrelevant. They marched for George Floyd. Still waiting for them to March for improving their kids’ schools. Been waiting a looooong time.

    1. 603... Remember the topic is healthcare. You're waiting for parents? Tell if you issue fake grades. I haven't seen a great walkout or march by NYC teachers because they are "forced" to issue fraudulent grades. You KNOW the grades are fake and blame the parents? This is called a dereliction of duty. Do you think the failure of one is permission for thr other to not uphold their responsibility to
CHILDREN? This is the definition of a Monster. Since you like to bring up George Floyd. Weak teachers are like the officers in the murder. Punk a^^ Derek committed murder and the other sorry arce punks just shrugged it off as if it wasn't their human responsibility to do the right thing. Monster. Stay on topic little lady.

  32. And there is it @ 6:03, Yep, you were the same one who had a complete breakdown when YOU introduced race into it in another thread, bring up George Floyd and comparing it to people who protest and here you are again. Who is "they"? You know for a fact that those protestors were the same parents who are not protesting for change for schools? You know they don't attend local meetings? Or do you know that the parents in your school are Floyd protestors. You don't know Jack Shit. Your comments, the first time you had your meltdown were so fucking vile, and you've got the nerve to post now "that doesn't mean "all parents, thumbs vs fingers" bullshit. I should've know that the stupid analogy had to come from you.

    ReplyDelete
  33. waitingforsupport, they try and change up to pretend they're another poster, but it doesn't take long before their ignorance gets through. Same one who is ALWAYS race baiting, and on this thread pretending it wasn't about race and it's other people knee jerking to race. They can't help themselves. Still a fraud in every aspect of their life. In the workplace, on a blog, in their family too I'd bet.
