UFT ENDOSREMENTS OF DEMOCRATS ADAMS AND HOCHUL COME BACK TO BITE US BADLY

A UFT endorsement needs to mean something. A (D) after a candidate's name should not be sufficient to win an automatic UFT endorsement in any election big or small.

As strong evidence, the UFT is getting badly burned by the current Mayor and Governor who we both endorsed.

This is from Educators of NYC on Twitter:

Educators of NYC are calling for the UFT endorsement process to be revisited. We would go further and use the word overhauled in describing the change the process needs.

Republicans and many Democrats are not our friends. There is no downside to staying neutral in campaign races where both candidates take anti-public education/anti-labor positions. The upside of staying away from politicians who oppose us is the Union keeps some integrity with the politicians and more importantly the members. The UFT badly needs to restore basic trust.

  1. We endorse Hochul: Watch her mandate vaccination to all young and old. She will tell you which and when, but after November. Side effects? No worries: they will be less that it could have been.

  2. As a wholly owned subsidiary of the Democratic Party, our union has no leverage at this point. Once in a while we ought to wisely support a reasonable Republican.

  3. No?!? The democrats screwed us again? This has to be the very last time. They’d never do it AGAIN. So I’m still voting blue no matter who in November. This will be the year it works!

  4. Mulgrew believes that Democratic politicians are the lesser of 2 evils. But you know what, sometimes they can be also just as evil as Republicans. Maybe the UFT can endorse Judge Lyle Frank.

    1. I do not understand why ppl fail to recognize that there are no democrats any longer. There are only Social Democrats.
The most famous of them is...AOC , and LENIN ofcause.

  5. Give us the candidate that will bring back respect and discipline to the classroom. Who will remove disruptive students and drop all the extra nonsense that prevents us from teaching and we should nominate them regardless of the letter by their name.

  6. The US esp NY is upside down. The more the Democrats screw EVERYTHING up -the more they successfully blame the other party NOT in charge. It doesnt matter that the UFT endorsed Dems that are ANTI_NYC public schools and teachers. NYC voters blindly keep voting for whoever has a D next to their name and it wont stop. The rules have even been changed to let ILLEGALS vote in our state and redistricting to make sure they even win by a larger margin now. Although crime was low they found a way to protect criminals and have all crime numbers skyrocketing. Nobody cares anymore who the UFT endorses anyway-thx to the times and daily news its prob better not to be endorsed by the UFT. It will take at least a decade if not more for the city to recover and that would only be if they started now- but we are not even close to rockbottom yet. People have been predicting a grim future for the city for a long time but look around and you will see its no longer a prediction.

  7. Very well said 11:53 AM, but I don't think it's even about the party anymore. It feels like government is going to get rid of in-person public schools.

    1. Maybe Janella should worry about this instead of retweeting left wing stuff. I mean, a union vp making how much?

  9. We can't endorse Republicans. We should not endorse anyone.

  10. An endorsement from the UFT is worthless and has been for over 20 years. I am praying that Mulgoon waits till another NYC union negotiates a contract before we jump to "the front of the line".

    1. I disagree. It has been powerful, especially for the young doe staff.
But the uft endorsement from now on is going to be a detriment.

  11. Summer school continues. With 3 days left, AP is giving students permission, who have never attended or haven’t done any work yet, to do all the work in 3 days. I say no.

But my other teacher lets me.
    I couldn’t find the work.
    I didn’t know.
    I had computer problems.
Where is the work from July?
    But I need to graduate.
What you mean I don’t do nothing?

    1. Erwin,

Just say no. Tough luck. They didn’t do timely work, they fail.
I’m in the same situation. I’m no longer accepting July assignments. Done. About ten students attacked me via email with a couple days left while having produced zero work. Retake the class.

  12. If you had two people running without knowing who is D and who is R. One wanted discipline, accountability, shake up DOE, take mayoral control away etc I would vote for that person. You will not find any dems now as the deep state, government, Bill Gates, Klaus Shwab (true real nazi), have their own agenda. Hence, mandates the lockdowns, vaccinations.

Hochul is satan been saying that since day 1. A good friend of Clinton too. Whomever, wants 2-3 year olds in masks is disgusting.

@6:12 why can't we endorse republicans? Since the dems have systematically turned the DOE into utter shambles. Billions down the drain, just like 1 billion down drain for mental health from previous assclown mayor.

Ny Post on target as usual, only paper exposing DOE, WHERE IS THE TIMES DAILY BULLSHIT NEWS ETC?

  13. Serious question...

If Janella and Randi spend so much time on social media trumpeting racism and discrimination and saying that things are so unfair to minorities...

Why have they never said a word about grade fraud, which can easily be documented, when the NYC school system is 80% black and hispanic?

Teachers can easily be asked and can easily respond.

Why would they say nothing about a "0% is ok" attendance policy?

  14. Contract?=is anyone on the committee? Updates?

Monkey Pox-Where is the UFT on this? What are they doing to protect us from another airborne virus that spreads by contact which we will have when students are so close in our small early childhood classrooms?

Is the UFT pretending this isn't going to spread like wild fire in our classrooms?

What protections are being added to the contract to protect us?

We worked through covid now monkeypox, does the mayor expect us to continue to be in harms way at a much higher risk than people who work in other industries. inflation at 10%

WHAT is the UFT doing to protect us and provide us adequate compensation to equal inflation, the additional job and responsibilities of SEL which should be done by a therapist or counselor, and the dyslexia screening which should be done by a neurologist,

AND THE CONTINUED HIGH RISK OF EXPOSURE TO MONKEY POX DISEASE TO WHICH WE DO NOT HAVE A VACCINE BEING offered to us BEFORE THE START OF THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR?

Yes, the UFT and mayor will boast that Monkey Pox rarely kills-BUT THE LEASONS CAN LAST 3 MONTHS, CAN CAUSE SCARRING, OBVIOUS DISCOMFORT AND WE CAN SPREAD IT TO OUR FAMILIES WHO WILL ALSO HAVE THEIR LIVES DISTRUBTED BY NOT BEING ABLE TO ATTEND SCHOOL OR WORK.

UFT YOU NEED TO DO PROTECT US NOW. WE DON'T NEED ANOTHER MARCH 2020. DECEMBER 2021 TO OCCUR!

Just because you are scared of everything on Earth does not mean we should mandate vaccination in the contract.
To be protected-go get a vaccine.
Or go on the Leave Without Pay.
Better, yet: move to Oregon and leave teaching.

  15. The four most influential union members are frustration, stifled anger, comical impotence (over every important facet of unionism and teaching) and mind numbing indifference. Indifference being the worst. Mulgrew and Co. love them all to varying degrees - although they actively cultivate all, especially indifference. As long as these four main ‘members’ remain, nothing will change. Everything can be proven or rejected according to a UFT or AFT pool. Don’t you recall all the losers endorsed, the insults thrown (i.e.,Bernie Bros) and Trump’s election? The UFT and AFT are a joke and by implication, we are clowns - just like Adams called us.

  16. I agree with 544 except I no longer care if the republican is reasonable. NY Teachers loudly voting Republican also cuts UFT leadership off at the knees. Then the democrats will see who really has the power and they’ll come courting the dues payers instead of Mulgrew and his crew who sell us out every chance they get because they answer to the Democrat party not us. Teachers can change the dynamic if they’re willing to vote Republican in November. Continuing to vote for democrats will get ny teachers more of the same.

  17. PLEASE quick question - do vacation days requested over the summer have to be approved? They're for the opening days of school, 9/6-9/8 (possibly coming in on the 9th).

    ReplyDelete
  18. 8:27, do you really think they're going to do all the work? Besides how do they do the Do Nows, watch the videos? And who is supposed to grade the work given in on the last day. I wouldn't pay the AP any mind.

  19. What a sorry bunch. It's no wonder why you go back to work exhausted and stressed, hating your jobs. Stop complaining so damn much. Take a vacation already.

  22. Here’s the issue and it goes back to Weingarten. None of these politicians are our friends. Weingarten thought Klein was our friend in 2005 and praises Klein after 05 contract. Awful!

Mulgrew always backs the wrong candidate and is okay getting played. It’s awful.

Sadly, it’s mostly the fault of elementary teachers. As a whole, not all, elementary teachers don’t understand why the union is important. Look at voter turnout.

  23. Asked about the governor not signing or vetoing class size bill yet, Liu says legislature doesn't send the governor bills at the same time as a courtesy/allows governor to call for the bill and the governor typically does that over the next six months.

  24. 937,

Stop listening to fauci and start living life.

Covid at this point is a bad cold or a flu. I had it twice, so I know from experience.

Monkey pox is fauci’s way of brainwashing people to get vaccines he has a financial interest in.

The news is a tv show designed to sell ads.

Go live life…or not. Your choice.
