I have been following UFT elections since 1997 and this is the first time I can recall that it has taken two days to tabulate even the slate ballots.
New rules that allow certain slate voters to also vote for individuals have made the counting more complicated.
Camille Eterno, Norm Scott and Ellen Fox are attending the vote count at the American Arbitration Association in Manhattan. We have been told to expect numbers around midday. We will pass the results along as soon as we have them.
Please explain your statement that new rules allow for individual votes even when voting for a slate in some cases.
ReplyDeleteIf someone votes for a slate, it overrides individual votes. However, if someone voted for the MORE slate, there were not 750 AFT Delegates running for MORE NEW ACTION so someone had to go through the books to see if in addition to voting for MORE-NAC, the voter chose some Unity convention delegates. I think that explains it.
ReplyDeleteI was there and understand it but given the personnel they released to other projects I believe this could have been done in a day -- the constant delays did not always make sense to me.
ReplyDeleteIn future there need to be some changes to the way this is all done - including the fact I am suspicious Unity gets certain data that we do not get.
AAA tabulates the returns every day and they know from which schools and which people. Do we know that info is not passed to the union so they know which schools to push to get out their votes?
