NOBODY HOME AT UFT

There was some business we had to take care of with the UFT this afternoon so a little before 5:00 PM. a call was made to the central UFT number, (212) 777-7500, from my house phone. After listening to the phone ring over and over for about fifteen minutes with no answer at all, I gave up.

I can't believe nobody picked up the phone on a Monday afternoon at the Central UFT.

No operator, no chance to leave a message, nothing.

Have they given up the ship already?

Was this a unique experience for today or has this happened to anyone else?

  2. Happened to me on various occasions over last few weeks.

  3. Funny, it happens to the two opposition bloggers but hundreds of other members manage to reach Central or the Borough Offices each day.

  4. Anonymous 9:22 pm, something tells me that you are one of those UFT loyalty oath signers. I am a retired chapter leader and I confirm what the two as you refer to them, "opposition bloggers" have stated. Actually they are very pro union, just doing all that they can to get that entity that we pay close to double the amount of union dues to than any other district in New York State, to act in the interest of the rank and file.

Yeah, I bet you ask any plain old rank and file member, not a Unity loyalty oath signer, whether the UFT is there for them, you will get a resounding NO response.

  5. "Opposition bloggers" feel strongly about unionism. They will continue to be dues paying members when given the choice. It's the majority of the rest of the membership that will choose to save $100+ dollars per month. As soon as Trump gets his SCOTUS pick confirmed that choice will be right around the corner. Perhaps sooner with an executive order. Some union members will volunteer their hard earned money. SOme will withhold funds out of anger. But I think most will be apathetic about it and just decide to save $1300 per year. UFT Leadership has survived due to it's encouragement of teacher apathy and now that apathy will karmically be their downfall. UFT leadership is in serious denial...dead men walking who don't know it yet. Roseanne McCosh PS 8X

  7. I've called the BX office numerous times over the years. Not once have I ever received a call back. Now, I ask my CL to alert the union to call me. This works sometimes...sometimes... Still waiting for a call from the office for 2 or 3 weeks and running.

  8. But James can't get through he makes it that the union has abandoned ship to make a political statement. It isn't about substance. Next we'll hear about NYC educator having a rough time with the toilet paper at the UFT office will have a resolution for bidets in all bathrooms.

  9. But dont forget to #tweetcuomo because that will make a difference. Dont forget to vote in all those dems so we can get an evaluation system imposed on u with no negotiation. Dont forget to , bu choice, give back 1.25% in the TDA, forever, which can be hundreds of thousands of dollars difference over a career. Dont forget to wait out bloomberg just so we can get the double zero in 2011-2012 like he was giving anyway, and then wait another 11 years to get out own money. Yeah, fuck the uft. The system has collapsed already anyway...Go to Chaz's site and look at the schools with an 80% grad rate and a 3% college ready rate? No chancellor investigation of grade fraud?

  10. Ya know what is amazing, how dumb these educated teachers are. I was at the Exec Board meeting right after the 2014 contract was agreed to...One teacher after another got up and thanked the union for getting us such a good contract, thanked them for getting us all the money we were owed, and thanked them for getting us respect. Thats 1 percent per year for 7 years, 11 year wait for "OUR' money, and billions in medical givebacks, which pretty much wipes away the 1 percent raises, and that doesnt include the classroom atmosphere which is the worst ever, the discipline code which no longer exists, and no return of any previous benefits we had given away in previous years.

  11. Sorry folks, every time I call the Queens office, the phone is picked up!

  12. Speaking of having that 1% raise eroded away. How about paying for these BS CTLE hours. The union itself is charging for them. What a sham. When are we going to get these provided for free? I really can't see many people doing 100 hours over the next 5 years. Especially since they think school pd counts.

  13. The history and where we are now speaks volumes. Completely agree with the OP who reminded us of the 1.25% additional fixed percentage that Randi threw away for us in exchange for the two days before Labor Day. Yes, Randi, with your $400,000 a year compensation package, what do you give a damn if the rank and file loses tens of thousands of dollars over a lifetime in lost interest.

I hate to say it, but the UFT and NYSUT made their bed, they will lie in it because the majority of members feel so let down and unsupported that this will be a way, the only way, to get back at a union who has completely not been there for them.

  14. How about trying to vote?

  15. I voted against unity. I forgot in my previous post, mentioned just now, the cost of the needless PD credits, and they have the balls to charge us...

  16. Hey James middle college has 2 social studies vacancies listed on the open market. Are they real? If not could you ask the admins to remove them. Don't want to see some poor atr who lives on Long Island being forced placed in Long Island city. Thanks

  17. The UFT is too busy protecting abusive and dishonest leadership principals like Ms. Dwarka.

  18. It is why I call the borough office lines directly. If you call the Manhattan office instead of the main line they can transfer you to whom ever you need. There are a limited number of operators and if one runs to the bathroom it gums up the works.

  19. Phones are busy because all the UFT Unity staff are calling headhunters to line up jobs once we become a right to work state.

  20. They are calling in early orders for pizza since there is gonna be a foot of snow on the ground on Thursday while rank and file teachers are stuck at school on a "beautiful day".

  21. Ms DeVos's hiring as Sec. for Education is a win-win. Judge Gorsuch will put the nails on the coffin to union dues. Can't wait to see it happen.

  22. To 9:00-
The UFT thinks members are too STOOPID to understand the ramifications of that "tiny" 1.5% decrease in interest in the TDA. And although you and I are not, they just might be right regarding the majority of their members.

  23. I do not know anyone on this board and can only speak about my personal experience. I called the Queens UFT office and left all my contact information. It has been over a week and NO call back. The union used to be much better when I first started in 95.

    1. The UFT Queens Office has not been doing their work for a long time.

  24. I started in 96'. Back then, the DOE used to leave teachers alone and admins actually worked well with teachers so there was not much of a need to call the UFT. Now that we are all targets, the UFT is sick of hearing from us.

  25. Funny how i am now seeing the uft tweet and retweet all about Devos...oh well, let the ship sink...Maybe Brian Gibbons will have good ideas...

  26. The UFT will always side with the corrupt and vindictive principal. They should be ashamed of themselves.
