MEET LYDIA HOWRILKA THIS AFTERNOON IN QUEENS (Updated with photos of the day and evening with family)

For those not convinced by my Wednesday endorsement (not ICEUFT as a caucus) of Lydia Howrilka for UFT President, come meet her yourself. I'll be there as will my wife.

Lydia Howrilka invited you

Join UFT Solidarity in our fourth borough happy hour to build community, build a stronger
union, and get some amazing individuals on the ballot in March 2019!

Bring a few colleagues and a pen!

UPDATE SATURDAY:

My wife, a friend and I were all there yesterday signing petitions and showing Lydia support. Not the greatest light in bar but I am in the middle, Lydia is to my left and Camille is in back of me.

On Friday night after meeting Lydia and friends, Camille, our son Matthew, our daughter Kara along with her friend Gurleen all went to the PS 191 Winter Wonderland Festival. A fun evening capping a  busy day.

Norm is probably going to complain that I am making the blog too personal for his tastes but I am showing the pictures at PS191 to make a point that there are plenty of positive activities going on in NYC public schools. Maybe that's just an excuse, I'm really showing off the kids but also their school.

  3. The sexist language of the first comment is not going to fly. Needless to say, that commenter is not voting for Lydia.

  4. Thanks James. I can handle the trolls but support is always appreciated. by the way, I cannot see the pictures on my phone or computer.

  5. Haha, who needs this shit? Nonmembers will still be covered by the specific terms of the collective bargaining agreements, but you will no longer receive or have access to these services offered by the union:

    Certain free legal services
    Free counseling
Free or discounted training or professional development
An attorney during 3020-a employee discipline procedures
Member discounts through the UFT, NYSUT and AFT
And you will not be able to participate in union elections, contract ratification votes or votes about school-based options.

  6. This post has nothing to do with opting out. Please stay on topic. Thanks.

  7. In a way...a uft election...1. The winner is already determined...2. It doesn't matter, nothing ever changes. They claim you should pay dues to vote, the vote has no meaning. One bad contract after another, principal and students abuse us, 12 years of approx 1% raises, still missing half retro, fraud grades, fraud open market...

  8. I'm sorry Lydia, if James is supporting you, I can't and so does many other teachers. James has destroyed school communities in his misguided attempts to go after school leaders. We woukd like our school issues dealt with but not publicly. We don't need to have our dirty laundry, true or not. publicized. James is often not aware of the entire story he just blindly believes whatever his friends tell him.
The teachers in the building are the ones left to deal with trying to rebuild trust with the principal.

Check out the history of his blogs.

No onr asks James to get involved bit he thinks he is some self proclaimed messiah. Our entire school hates James.

If he supports you then you are probably like him, Lydia. Nosy, intrusive, spiteful and arrogant. I agree with the first post that James removed.

  9. I agree with 732. Ask uft for help, they say they can't. So why am I asking? That's what I'm paying for.

  10. Yeah, still waiting for that travel hardship help. It's only 20 years.

  11. Only aiolution is opt out of frigging union,

  12. Nosy, intrusive, spiteful and arrogant. You clearly don't know James. Elected over and over at Jamaica. Your critique does not mention that Lydia, like Eterno, calls out administrators in need of improvement. Vote for Lydia.

  13. That Lydia, James hater is in a union. The CSA. Go away.

  14. Opt out and you can't vote. That helps. Not

"We don't need to have our dirty laundry, true or not. publicized." How do you deal with it? By sweeping it under the rug as good people are sent to the rubber room? 7:39 is the problem.

Anyone who would write that comment attacking someone personally on a post that has photos of his kids that elementary school children will look at needs help. You owe us an apology 7:39.

  16. 1026, what dont you understand? The vote is meaningless when the winner get 80% or 90%. You want their free counseling? When I went to a pension consult they gave me incorrect info. You want their legal? Everyone says they are awful. I hope you dont want their PD. Their discounts? Lol. Voting for a useless CL? No thanks. I have voted againt every contract since I was in the DOE and lost badly every time. Last election, after the worst contract in uft history, unity still got 80%. The uft openly admits that they cant help me when I request help. I will keep the $124 per month.

  17. The only real improvement was the bogus graduation rate. However, every educator knows that the improved graduation rates were because of "credit recovery" courses, administrative pressure to pass failing students, scholarship requirements, and linking teacher tenure to student grades. This is known as academic fraud.

  18. So after a kid tells me to suck his or her dick, I will do this..LOL...Teaching and modeling restorative practices and approaches through social emotional skills and competency training in restorative circles is one of the most fulfilling and impactful educational experiences I've had

  19. This is who we now vote for...Ilhan Omar laughs and jokes while talking about Al-Qaeda and Hezbollah — Islamic terror groups that kill Americans, U.S. allies, and Jews — during a 2013 interview

  20. James
I have no problem with anything personal -- look at my blog.
My issue has been that this is a personal blog by James Eterno -- not an official ICEUFT blog. We still meet and talk but have no external presence other than this blog. That is why the title should include your name to make it clear.
Now we can also raise the issue that ICEUFT is basically irrelevant so who cares?
Well, we might talk about an endorsement at our meeting next week. It would be like a tree falling in a forest.

  21. ICE blog has many loyal readers.

  22. James Eterno blog has many loyal readers. And well deserved but ICE blog doesn't represent ICE.
