MEDICAL ACCOMMODATIONS EXTENDED THROUGH JUNE EXCEPT FOR PREGNANCY

News from UFT.

We shall see how this will play out if the vaccines are effective and available widely early next year.

  1. So if there is a vaccine they still get to stay home. Nice job dividing us...

  2. Shit. I just found out I’m due in June.

  3. I am not anti-vaccine but there is no way i’m taking the first round of any vaccine (not that we would be offered so fast). I don’t even think I want the second round either. Let others take it first and let’s see how they react to it.

I know a lot of people are like me. Willing, just not yet.

  4. Nice. Get rewarded for having health issues.

  5. With the gender fluid situation being something that the progressive mafia approve I am hereby switching my self identification as an attack helicopter to a pregnant woman. I dare HR to deny me my civil right to self identify as a pregnant woman. I used to be a giraffe.

  6. I don’t know anyone would have animosity for any UFT member who was granted a medical accommodation. You can not be pissed at them .

You need to be pissed at the UFT for allowing schools to be open in the first place. You need to be pissed at the non testing , and the fraud attendance of students during blended in person scheduling.

  7. Any atrs willing to share their login so I can see vacancies? Or send me the list?

  8. 8:16 it is not something those of us with health issues wish upon anyone. But if anyone ever paid attention to biology 101 the spread of disease, and how it infects at a cellular level then one can see those of us with chronic health issues need to stay safe or risk being disabled long term. As this disease causes long term damage to vital organs. I think it is safer to say to stay home now while continuing to live teach to 60 plus students in each of my five classes than to live on permanent disability which your taxes would pay. Don;t you think? I know of not one person with an actual chronic disease that doesn't daily pray they could be back in person full time.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Why would this decision be made now? Is it to help principals program next semester? Divide teachers? eliminate State tests in NYC? waste more money? other than the teachers staying home, computer and software companies, who benefits?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Re not ready to die: many people pushed at people with accommodations who stay home. Get paid, and do nothing.they sign in, close the camera, and get paid while remote teachers work hard and in per see on staff risk their lives.this is plain wrong.many people would love to have a job and actually work.disgraceful!where is the work ethic?mulgrew. Doe all suck, but that is not an excuse to not work and collect a salary. Then fuckin retire!

    1. You speak like a real jack ass. There are teachers who are working from home remotely, logging in and working hard seeing all of their classes every day. Of course there are some who will not work as hard just like there are some who don’t work as hard in person. It happens in every profession. Get over it and don’t lump everyone in the same group, moron.

  11. Joe here,

Yeah, too many teachers are sitting at home doing nothing which is the same thing they did while going into the buildings. They give free grades. Students learn nothing and are rewarded. Students do nothing and are rewarded. Teachers who want to grade honestly are targeted because they are the only ones who fail people.

    This is about pandemic safety.

I will not put my life on the line to go into a building that has no students.

I, luckily, have amassed enough wealth so I can simply refuse to go in if forced and take an unpaid leave or tell them to just mark me absent until I feel like coming back and make them unpaid absences. Who cares?

    1. Correct. Right now I am being harassed about the myriad of NXs I gave in the Spring, needing proof of the standards they did not pass and allowing them to remediate those on an INDIVIDUAL basis. Meanwhile, other teachers just sat and did nothing while giving all their students a passing grade. Ironically those are usually the fat, unhealthy ones who have chronic conditions and get to stay home all day probably doing more of the same.

  12. 10:08 what work ethic? It’s nyc. no work ethic required. None from students, the mayor, his corrupt wife and every consultant who worked for doe. It’s the nyc way. Don’t blame some teachers for doing EXACTLY what nyc requires. Zero standards, babysit, pass kids and pretend everything’s groovy. That is the “work” we’ve been hired to do. Progressive mayor and chancellor want it this way. Keep them dumb and on welfare so they’ll keep voting in morons like DeBlasio. I teach the kids who want to learn. Not killing myself for those who don’t.

  13. Just finished "class". I've been seeing 30 students in this class (split into the groups of course, and 2 separate periods) who have been participating and doing work, since school started Oct 1st. Today my attendance was 3. All with no cameras, barely any communication via the chat box.
" Online learning" is a fraud and failure.

  14. Joe again,

    Something important this time,

Did anybody ever notice that our tda compounding interest is not really compounding? After you max it out, the interest stays the same every month even though there should be new interest on the new interest. The interest changes the following year.

They are not honest or transparent about their methodology for compounding.
They are definitely not compounding on a monthly basis.

Not sure, but maybe they are compounding the interest annually.

The should make known a number similar to the APR for their effective compound interest rate.

Call them and ask them for the information!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Hi Joe. Yes I’ve noticed tda interest. Could never find an explanation of calculation. When I estimate future balances I use 6.78% and have been close enough to be satisfied. .

    ReplyDelete
  20. Correct about tda. I have my whole tda maxed out by end of March. I noticed that interest amount was identical from April through December. Should be interest on interest. Another scam.

    ReplyDelete
  21. They redo the interest at the end of each year. During the year you only get new interest on new principal.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Florida has had six consecutive months of month-over-month job growth. Over the past month alone, Florida has gained more than 61,000 private sector jobs, lowering the unemployment rate to 6.5%.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Joe and others, if you dig deep enough, TRS tells you that the 7% is an APY, not an APR. So yes, you get exactly 7% per year.
A more vexing thing about TRS is why we can only move money in/out of funds only on 4 dates a year, with 30 days advance notice, and only over a period of 1 month (minimum). No other retirement account works like this. Same with the kids' 529s, past and future allocations can be changed at any time and are completed by the next business day.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Also, why does it take trs so long to post statement after months end. My private investments are posted immediately. With trs they’re a month behind.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Tjl, good point. When the market collapsed in Feb and March, I wanted to move money from fixed to buy stocks. Couldn't until July. Unacceptable.

  26. Newsflash: all the in person teachers who were bitching about the people with medical accommodations are now bitching about remote teaching. Working remotely is HARD- guess they miss teaching 2-3 kids in person 5 periods a day, now they actually have to work. There's no hiding in a remote classroom, because parents will sell you down the river in a heartbeat.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I find working remotely hilariously easy. The other day I was taking a dump while "working". So nice.

      Delete
  27. I don't have an issue with those teachers who honestly have medical conditions that make it prudent for them to teach remotely.

On the other hand, I am friendly with teachers who do not have a problem admitting their main reason for teaching remotely is not for health reasons but rather, to save money; mainly, no child care costs and no driving/commuting expenses. Following the money motivation to teach remotely, are the additional reasons of health, less stress, less oversight, no bulletin boards, fewer meetings, less BS, no mice, saving hours due to no commute, more sleep, more family time, etc.

What a mess and terribly divisive.

  28. You want us to unite when one of your perpetual commenters is condescending, snarky, mocks, laughs and giggles at all who disagree with her lefty agenda. There was a small chance we could unite. But now, never gonna happen. The chasm between lefty teachers and reasonableness is huge. I can’t hop on board with you people. I’ll take my chances alone before I’ll give people like W4s any power. Not to single her out but she has a “name” . I think her/their thinking about what’s best for America is unAmerican. White man bad because of slaughtered Indians and the like. Being told STFU because you don’t like what I say. Being threatened for ones beliefs. This blog is a microcosm of America. We cannot unite because our beliefs are vastly different. I see lefty teachers as a danger to our country. I’m not joining them in any fight because I’m convinced that the minute we win that fight, they turn on us and slit our throats. I’ve seen too much BLM antifa violence to work with anyone who won’t denounce them for the violent marxists they are. I can’t work with people I can’t trust. I’d rather see the doe win than lefty teachers win. The left disgusts me. I don’t say that to offend. It’s how I honestly feel. I’ll be opting out in June. BLM/UFT was it. My brother’s a cop. He’s been spit on, had someone scream in his face for 10 minutes straight, taunting him. I could go on and on. All while the democrats said nothing because they didn’t want to upset the lefty mob. It’s despicable. The left forced the issue so I’ve chosen my tribe and I will look out for them and them alone. It’s sad it’s come it but it’s how I feel. Anyone on the left who’s still reasonable better watch your back. The scumbags will turn on you too.

I feel like the elementary teachers have to hustle more with entertaining kids where high school is a shit show where barely any cameras on and attendance very low.

So I am right in the middle between both your numbers.

So 12:24 why bother? You had 24 kids show up. That’s why you “bother”. You are getting paid to “bother”
And 1:38 honestly numbers are gonna be different for a lot of reasons. Don’t know what kind of school you are in but in mine we have a lot of overage kids. I have 136 on roster. About 75 show up each day. Some of the kids don’t go to any classes. They are on the schools “roster” but in reality some don’t live in nyc anymore and don’t tell the schoo some come back from “vacation” from DR or PUERTO RICO in November, some are homeless, etc. so it’s hard to compare you never know what another schools population is like or administration is like etc until you actually teach there.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I bothered every day in September, October and November until I found out i was the only teacher actually teaching in my school. Got tired of students doing nothing and badgering me daily about failing. Other teachers didn't get badgered because they don't have live instruction, dont have due dates for work and pass everybody. I'm a PE teacher. Students refuse to turn on camera so we can't do exercise. Students refuse to do written work because this is gym, in their words. And they make a point to say im the only one giving them real work. Of course, students can't fail for never attending my class either. Well, why bother? What is my next option?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Why bother? Well if even 1 kid shows up and that kid wants to learn then you should teach and teach your best to that kid. If zero kids show up or show and do not want to learn, then not much you can do.

    ReplyDelete
  34. “Waiting for real names”

Don’t worry about what everyone else is doing. Find a couple of students in each class that you can an make a connection with maybe. I hear what you’re saying but the kids are probably bored/frustrated also. At least they are coming. Can’t hurt to make an effort. Then if they don’t respond at least you tried. I know where you are coming from becAuse I have had a couple of classs like that where I am talking to myself. It does get frustrating.

You think these students will be your heart surgeon? I'm sure the chancellor will make up excuses as to why they didn't succeed. Who cares?

Is it the weekend? I can't tell the difference. Yeah, you gotta make the system work for you. No yelling and screaming. Post the work, let them complain, take attendance, fail the 90% who deserve to fail. If the kids weren't around, I wouldn't be worth $2M. Just wish I would've been more chill earlier in my career. 3 day week upcoming. 3.5 weeks after that till Christmas. Mlk day. Term over. Fill up that tda by mid March, remember, it gets 7% guaranteed. All this from my bed. My school is involved in so much fraud it will be a joy if I need to expose it. Equity and equality. I found it.

Still riding my high about the dump Trump klan being told to pack up and ship out
AND the fact that you are THE BEST of America. According to you, You're best is equivalent to folks who need affirmative action. I'd be disappointed and angry too.
But hey, keep tooting the horn of disappointment. I love it.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Who is the disappointment? The group the can never excel without help. Why is carranza pushing certain colors into Brooklyn tech? because they cant make it on their own?

  48. A close examination of wealth in the U.S. finds evidence of staggering racial disparities. At $171,000, the net worth of a typical white family is nearly ten times greater than that of a Black family ($17,150) in 2016.

Only 10x, nothing to get excited about.

And I guess that klan wasn't me because I'll be making my max salary plus summer school plus coaching plus medical benefits plus retirement accounts. You should go to that school you consult in and tell the population to be teachers, they might get over that $17K net worth hump.

For the fun of it here’s a bunch of people who look like me that I wouldn’t spit on if they were on fire, Andrew Cuomo, Chris Cuomo, Nicole Wallace, Nancy Pelosi. The truth doesn’t fit your everyone who disagrees with me is a racist narrative, W4s. Enough of what, James? Enough pointing out someone you agree with is wrong? Enough of the nastiness? I notice you call to end things not after W4s insults but when others start insulting back. I’d rather attack ideas than people, but you can’t expect people to get swung on and not swing back. However, the ignorant comments made about blacks, other people of color and folks with accommodations sit well with you. Double standards are part of the reason why we are in the predicament that we're in.
You can cite whatever stats you can find and I will still tell you to dig deeper and look honestly. I respect James' blog. I too think he shouldn't post comments I deem inflammatory. However, it's HIS blog. I RESPOND to it because I want you to continue proving why shit needs to change in the DOE and this country.
Finally, James isn't my friend (no offense James lol). I've never met him. I'm a blogger just like you. I also never met Chaz (RIP) however one of his last comments on his blog was defending my point.

  56. James, I love your blog and read it all the time. You have a serious issue with trolls commenting on here. These people could be anyone. Totally random people who aren't teachers and want to make teachers look bad.

  57. Troll who? Give me the statement you object to...

    ReplyDelete
  58. Just about every right wing load of racist bullshit that is spouted here is objectionable. Yeah, Biden stole the election. Only majority black cities engage in voter fraud. Republicans never engage in voter suppression. It is an amazing councidence that majority Black areas have few polling locations and in white areas they are everywhere. And, the right wing KKK types don't engage in violence. George Floyd was an aberration. Okay. Blacks are horrible, etc...

Many enjoy the posts but hate most of the right wing bullshit comments. Now here comes the response citing crime statistics as if 400 years of oppression and racism have nothing to do with those numbers.

    ReplyDelete
  59. The “trolls” 848 discusses are teachers. They know the system too well to be anything else. 848 could be “anyone” too. The cure for bad speech is more speech not censorship. If you want to attack my ideas, I’ll debate. If you want to act like a troll and name call, I can do that too. What I won’t do is pretend like the insults are one sided and just take it. If James wants an echo chamber, he can close off his blog to anyone who disagrees. I have a medical accommodation. I know teachers in my school who prefer remote but didn’t get accommodation. I also know teachers who prefer in person. The morons at the doe probably could have accommodated all teachers and parents who wanted remote and those who wanted in person if they surveyed correctly. But it’s never about what’s best for students or teachers it’s always about what’s best for management. That’s the corrupt system. I don’t blame the commenters who gave up and decided to work the corrupt system in their favor. Some of us, like Steve I think his name is, tried. We tried and we stood alone and got targeted or just got nowhere. You reach a certain age and realize, none of it is worth the mental toll. The system is the system. The families of nyc public school kids are the only ones who can fix it. When they demand it and fight for it, it will change. Until then, I’m not blaming any teacher. I’m blaming parents. I’ve said this before. My suburban school where I live functions well because we are involved and know how to advocate for what we want. Nyc parents have no one to blame but themselves for allowing deep rooted corruption to remain in their school system. Every year my school loses a few good families to greener pastures. They get out as soon as they can afford it. Most of them are immigrant families who work multiple jobs. They want their kids to get out of the bad neighborhood and have a shot at success. Florida, Texas, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and even Connecticut have benefitted from these good families escaping nyc. You know who never leaves? The lazy asses who disrupt learning.

  60. Citing black crime statistics causes my eyes to roll too. But I don’t agree that slavery or Jim Crow are why blacks are less successful today. Creating Welfare dependency and removing black fathers from the home is the problem. Add that to the everyone gets a trophy mentality and it’s a shit show.

    ReplyDelete
  61. 1043. Crime stats are right wing? Education level? Net worth? Ok, why is the crime rate what it is? Why is it that every crime report is filled with black faces? Have you heard of the holocaust? Have Asians been discriminated against? They seem to do just fine.

  62. So are the stats inaccurate?

Why are the stats the way they are?

And remember, when you call racism, there has been a black president of the US, elected twice, many other black elected officials and black CEOs, principals, APS, Supes, chancellors etc.

  66. Of course there is racism. Some. There is also anti Asian and anti Jew stuff all the time. Those 2 groups still manage to lead in all categories. Doctors, lawyers, stats experts. And they get into Brooklyn Tech based on merit, not because the anti white chancellor pushes them in and changes rules for them.

  67. I'm tired of people blaming blacks and Hispanics for crimes and for being bad. What about those bad Hasidic Jews that had a wedding with 3,000 people in attendance, yet nobody got in trouble for that. Also there was an article in the Post about how a sex club in Astoria got busted with 80 people in there, yet only one person was charged. Most likely because it was mostly white people there.

  68. I'm Jewish. That Jewish wedding should not have happened.

  70. I am a black male. I don't think I've ever commented but I will now. The school system us segregated, for whatever reason.

The White/Asian schools do perform much better than the black schools, by quite a bit.

Crime rates and jail population and net worth and education are what they are. No point in arguing facts.

Now, instead of yelling about Trump and dem and gop, going back and forth, we need to figure out how to fix the problem.

The doe may not let us.

But yes, standards must be raised. The problem, again, is that when we suspend, the mayor that you all voted for says suspensions are racist because certain groups get suspended more than others. Same thing with arrests. We are laying blame in the wrong places.

Back to square one. This is a societal problem, coming fromthe home. That is where the teen pregnancy and single parent households come into play. And yes, again, that hits certain groups more than others, which leads to poverty, crime, disrespect and low education level.

If we, with the uft, would admit the problem, somehow educate, fix the problem before it starts, maybe we could accomplish something. I fear we will be having the same conversation 20 and 50 years from now about certain groups lagging in every measurable way. Just like it is safer to liver in certain places, the skin color will often intertwine with safety and lack there of.

  71. Respect and responsibility. They have no respect for teachers, police...And no responsibility because this country will take care of them no matter how many fuck ups they have, lack 9f graduation, unable to read and write, no job, no savings, no healthcare. Ultimate nanny state.

  72. @8:16 PM - It's not a reward. Those granted with extended medical accommodations is because of their medical condition which places them at HIGHER risk. Everyone is at risk, but it is HIGHER. It's not a reward.

  73. Perfect example. Somebody states facts then somebody states "You're not ready for the FACTS. Your FACTS are worthless." Why are the facts worthless? Because someone doesn't like them?

  74. I see. So I should get a deadly virus which could affect me forever because I don't have a previous condition. I've been home with no medical accommodation this whole time, I have no intention of going back without a vaccine. They can fire me.

  75. Lol. Students are never, ever required to attend. That is the rule. Not a chance I will enter a building.

  76. Common denominator?

    Get rid of discipline code
    Get rid of suspension
    Get rid of attendance policy
    Get rid of grading policy
    Get rid of standards
Get rid of tests to get into schools
    Bail reform
    Decriminalization of drugs

  77. 9:30 it’s what someone says when they have lost the argument. But something tells me you already know that.
Jefferson: we can’t fix the problem if we can’t agree what the problem is. Some say racism. Some say lack of parent and student accountability. Sadly, I’m confident that we will be still talking about this 20 years from now.

Or it's what someone says when both sides are at a stalemate.
I do agree with "we can't fix the problem if we can't agree what the problem is".

  80. @9:37 PM - You are right Eric. No one should be placed at risk, but currently under this current platform those with CDC medical conditions have been approved for medical accommodations. That is when the individual has to unfortunately fend for themselves like you are doing by staying home if that is how you feel. But, let's not downplay those that have to live with the medical issues in the CDC guidelines. They are serious conditions. It is worrisome to have to report and in no way is that being downplayed.
