ANTI COVID VAX MANDATE RALLY BRINGS DOZENS TO CITY HALL

If you want evidence that the people that are anti-COVID vaccine mandate are a tiny minority, take a look at the video of the city workers' rally at City Hall today. CBS 2 covered it and said it was "dozens" protesting.

Even if we give the benefit of the doubt and say maybe it was over a hundred, compare that to the June 30 march and rally when hundreds of retirees and a few active city workers came out to protest the privatization of Medicare.

AM New York covered it via this blog:

Hundreds of retired city employees converged in the shadow of National Museum of the American Indian amidst a record-breaking heatwave on June 30 to decry a mass shift to their health care plans. The Municipal Labor Committee is set to alter the Medicare plans of 250,000 individuals to a for-profit plan: Medicare Advantage.

In my humble opinion, the anti-vax mandate group is small, albeit loud. One anti-vaxxer said he was going to pull out of the UFT.

Here is my question for the anti-mandatory COVID vaxers:

Since it is clearly legal to have a vaccine mandate for school employees, besides demanding impact bargaining for a medical exemption, which the UFT did, what do you want the Union to do?

  1. Maybe Mulgrew should take a survey/vote just to see where the membership stands on this issue.

    1. 933 i agree. this should be done on all issues, and then the union should act accordingly. but we have an extremely anti-democratic union, meaning, this will never happen.

  4. Mulgrew should make sure every member is vaxxed, preferably before Sept. 13th. (Exceptions for those with unusual health conditions. No religious bs.) Then he should get on the bandwagon with Brad Hoylman to make sure every eligible child is vaxxed, too. He must lobby for discipline in school, that means kids w/o masks are removed. No coddling. All parents with kids under 13/severe medical conditions should have the right to have their kids instructed from home.

Be grateful for the good things being offered by the (however imperfect) medical system in this country. Get your shot! Grow up! and Shut up!

    Same for every municipal union!

  5. They were a scary bunch out there but not enough of them to call it a superspreader event or maybe there were enough. Get vaxxed and stop the spread of this virus you well-meaning fools. Your personal freedom is not more important than all of our lives. Public health is more important.

  7. Amy Fucking Coney Barrett said mandatory vaccines were legal for Indiana University students and that is when it was still under Emergency Use Authorization. You think a judge is going to side with you antivaxers. She's a Trump judge.

  8. Quit. You people shouldn't be near children with these totally selfish attitudes.

  9. Simple. Like the rest of NY state as well as NJ, vax or test. Makes everyone happy except the mandaters who want to vax all kids too. Good luck with that one.

  10. We need to vax and test to get out of this shit. Look who is in the ICU's and who is dying. It's mostly non vaxed. What more evidence do you need?

  11. It was clearly legal to close Jamaica, you still did what was right and fought it. Did the UFT conspire over a quail dinner with BloomKlein to close schools?

Kane has 2 lawyers working on this. I doubt they take the case if there's no shot.

    My 2 cents:
If they go the Sidney Powell route and start bringing up boilerplate antivax stuff (mercury, autism, etc.) it's over before it starts.

City will say, blah blah, public interest, protect students, etc. Response should be:
    1. CDC (and NY Gov) admit the vaccines do not stop spread by recommending/mandating masks. Data from Provincetown MASS that changed the story on that can be presented. They don't further the public interest, just the people taking them.
2a. Other less invasive interventions are available such as masks, social distancing and testing. (Note I am not for masking or forced testing but it's a compromise).
2b. The Mayor and DOE have publicly stated last year (with no vaccines) was the gold standard and safe. Low transmission, schools not the source of spread, etc. This is the key. Make them eat their own words.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Lawyers will take your money. You got the city response right, TJL. Attendance in person was less than half of the kids last year. They want everyone back this year so that gold standard argument won't fly.

We need to do all of the interventions, not some of them, in my non scientist opinion, to get this virus under control.

Looking at what's going on where the US is up to 1,400 deaths again from COVID-19 per day and the vast majority of fatalities are unvaccinated (which the city will use in their legal arguments), I can't see how you win in court or why you would want to. Public health wins out over individual freedom in a pandemic. Fighting to keep more people alive is what's right here.

We are all in this together. Everyone should do their part.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Oh and closing Jamaica was not legal a judge found in 2010. The UFT screwed up the victory when they didn't put in a stipulation in the final settlement on what would happen if the DOE didn't provide the supports they promised. Joel Klein did not give those supports and then just closed us and many other schools again the next year and then we lost in court. We would have won again if the UFT simply demanded that Klein could not close schools a second time unless they were given proper resources first.

I thank God all the time for that extra year. It allowed me to work another year at Jamaica and when I went in the ATR pool, a position opened up at the perfect time at Middle College and a principal took a chance by hiring me (thank you Linda). Whether it was good karma or just plain luck, doing the right thing in fighting for Jamaica worked out well for me and others too.

  14. I want the UFT to do its job. It doesn't do its job.

    1) We have not gotten paid for spring break 2020.
    2) Mulgrew should shut up and improve our benefits.
    3) Our wages are not keeping pace with inflation.

The UFT should shut up and make sure we get paid. The inflation rate is approximately five percent higher and our measly salary increase of less than one percent. We took a large pay decrease this year because our wages are not keeping pace with inflation. Mulgrew is unfit to be the head of the UFT..

    Mulgrew colludes with De Blasio,
Mulgrew does not represent teachers, period.

vax all kids..???. Good luck with that ..is right....either everyone is vaxxed or back to testing weekly again..New Jersey is allowing vax or testing once a week ..

.My thoughts ..not saying I am right...DOE will not get the mandates until the vaccine is approved for all students ages 5 and up..which could happen in 2022..

    ReplyDelete
  18. I am not anti-vaccine, I am anti-mandate. I think Mulgrew should encourage the vaccine for those teachers who want it. I am also fine with the weekly testing.

I find it worrisome to force a vaccine on those who have natural immunity from previous illness. I find it worrisome to force a vaccine on people for an illness in which medication exists (but much less profitable)

Why is the flu shot not mandatory? Will it be next? I have never gotten the flu shot and do not plan to get the flu shot. I have never gotten the flu. In my 30 years of teaching, I have never taken a day due to personal illness. I do not think this is just luck. It has a lot to do with taking personal responsibility for ones health. I understand that most people would much prefer to take a pill or a vaccine for their health issues but that lifestyle, of the unhealthy, should not be forced on anyone.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Taking a survey as to what members believe regarding vaccines when the city has the right to mandate the vaccines. Mulgrew needs to do what he can within the parameters of what can be bargained. Even if 100% of the teachers were against vaccine mandates Mulgrew's hands would be tied.

    ReplyDelete
  20. What do non-vaccinate members want the UFT to do? I'll tell you: They want Mulgrew to publicly state what he said in the last town hall meeting which was that the UFT believes that members should have the choice to vax OR submit to weekly testing. He needs to make a press statement and write a letter to the Post and Daily News. Mulgrew should also state that he is in support of the MLC decision to sue NYC for the mandatory vaccine mandate. Yes, the MLC will loose but he needs to make a point to show that he is pro choice on the topic.

Aurora Preston, an English teacher at South Johnston High School in Four Oaks, argues that it should be her constitutional right whether she wears a face mask. She faces up to nine weeks of unpaid leave and could lose her job as a result of her decision to not mask up on campus."

Preston isn’t resigning. Nor is she planning on putting on a mask. At the urging of friends, Joe Preston said they’ve set up a GoFundme page to raise the $6,000 the family says it could lose while she’s on unpaid leave for two months."

Dan Bauman was arrested and charged with one count of child abuse on Wednesday in Fort Lauderdale."

"As Bauman continued to record, a passing student told him she did not want to be videotaped, saying "I've had enough for four days" before trying to grab the cell phone out of Bauman's hands, according to authorities."

"Bauman responded by pushing the student into a fence, grabbing her hand, and twisting her arm "in an aggressive manner," the affidavit said. The school resource officer and security pulled Bauman off the student and placed him into custody."

Just go to one of the NYC teacher Facebook groups and you will see hundreds of teachers posting about how they do not believe in vax mandates to keep their jobs. The interesting thing is that these people are not hiding their names. Looks like there is going to be some heavy arguments among teachers in buildings this September!

      From the Independent:

      https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/lisa-shaw-covid-vaccine-death-b1909089.html

While a link has been made between the AstraZeneca vaccine and potentially fatal blood clots, this side effect is rare. It is thought to affect about 1 in 50,000 people who receive the jab.

The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency has said the advantages of the vaccine outweigh the risks for most age groups.

And scientists say the risk of brain clots as a result of Covid-19 infection is markedly higher than from vaccines.

  32. I's hard to have a conversation about vaccinations with my anti-vaxx best friend because she starts screaming, and carrying on. She is against vaccinations in general. I posted recently that she wasn't able to get a doctor's note so she had to homeschool. Turns out she did get a note from the doctor but the private school itself said doctor notes were no longer accepted. It was vaccinations, or out.

She goes on and on about vaccinations causing mutations as the body tries to fight it off. Some of it made sense, but not entirely. Someone posted recently about the difference between this type of virus and other types of viruses like Polio, smallpox, etc so I'd be curious to hear what they have to say about that argument. But something else, she claims she had COVID which I do not remember at all, and I speak with her all the time, but assuming she's telling the truth, she reminds me that for other vaccines she is able to present Titers to show she has antibodies, which is what students present when they go to college, if they don't have their old records.

What would be a good reason why people who already had the illness, can't just present their titer information for clearance. How would that be different from showing proof that you're vaccinated?

  34. Even if you are right about covering up vaccine deaths which I don't accept Anon 2323, the explosion of Delta deaths in the South among mainly unvaccinated people shows the benefits of the vaccine far outweigh the risks.

We paused J&J because of safety concerns.

You think the FDA is all corrupt? And the European Medicines Agency? And the UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency?

  35. From my perspective even if death rate or serious side effects is 1 in 10 million, I’m not forcing anyone to take that risk, even though I did with this vaccine. If the odds are in fact 1 in 50,000 then we stand the chance of killing a UFT member with a forced vaccine. Don’t want that on my conscience.

Maybe all the agencies James mentioned are not 100% corrupt. But I suspect enough corruption to no longer trust any of them. When my doctor discussed the vaccine with me, I asked her how comfortable she would be, how secure in her job she would be giving me her medical opinion if she believed the opposite about the vaccine. The look on her face and her vague answer told me doctors are no longer free to say what they really think if they disagree with the official narrative. I weighed my risks the best I could and got vaccinated anyway…. BY CHOICE. Censorship caused many to be distrustful. We would have more people vaccinated if dissenting opinions were openly debated and proven wrong. You can force some but not enough to get the high vaccination rates the cdc wants. I have a friend about to be fired. She will not back down. She said she’ll get NYS Medicaid for herself and kids once her job is gone and she’ll work the system for whatever else she can get while she home schools her kids before eventuallly moving on to a free state. I just learned that in NY, you can have tens of millions in assets but if you have no income, you get Medicaid. Instead of Medicare For All we have a system that discourages people earning income.

  43. 9:12, this is 7:45 responding to you. Agree 100%. Anti-vaxxers are the loudest however I don't believe they are the majority as the majority of NYers have been vaccinated. I think where the goalposts will go will be determined by what is the consequence of being eligible for a vaccine, not having a medical accommodation, and still refusing to be vaccinated. Is the result termination?

I am vaccinated and agree the government has the right to mandate vaccinations however, if I were on the other side putting 15 years in, in my 40s, and facing termination with the prospect of starting a new career at this age I think there are many who are afraid of what not having a testing option will mean to them. It's a legitimate fear.

What anti-vaxxers must realize is that like anything else times change and we must adapt to those changing times and for those who can't adapt to the agreed upon parameters then it may be time to move on from education. But be prepared because these mandates will be everywhere.

  49. This is from the CDC.

    https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/faq.html

Yes, you should be vaccinated regardless of whether you already had COVID-19 because:

Research has not yet shown how long you are protected from getting COVID-19 again after you recover from COVID-19.

Vaccination helps protect you even if you’ve already had COVID-19.
Evidence is emerging that people get better protection by being fully vaccinated compared with having had COVID-19. One study showed that unvaccinated people who already had COVID-19 are more than 2 times as likely than fully vaccinated people to get COVID-19 again.

If you were treated for COVID-19 with monoclonal antibodies or convalescent plasma, you should wait 90 days before getting a COVID-19 vaccine. Talk to your doctor if you are unsure what treatments you received or if you have more questions about getting a COVID-19 vaccine.

If you or your child has a history of multisystem inflammatory syndrome in adults or children (MIS-A or MIS-C), consider delaying vaccination until you or your child have recovered from being sick and for 90 days after the date of diagnosis of MIS-A or MIS-C. Learn more about the clinical considerations for people with a history of multisystem MIS-C or MIS-A.

Experts are still learning more about how long vaccines protect against COVID-19. CDC will keep the public informed as new evidence becomes available.

There are 2 opposing arguments with mandated COVID vaccines. There are nuts on both sides but for normal people this is an ideological difference we cannot possibly resolve. I completely agree, assuming the vaccine works like it’s supposed to, less people die. But I don’t want to die because someone else pulled the lever. If I am to die, It should be because I pulled the lever. I’m not willing to pull the lever on others to save someone else. Long term studies may change my mind. The average daily case count in the U.S. now tops 150,000 and the average daily number of deaths is above 1,100, according to the New York Times tracker. Those are figures not seen since several months ago, when the vaccine program was just gaining ground.

By all accounts, unvaccinated Americans largely account for the recent spike. And governments and companies are now taking a tougher stance to prompt them to get their shot."

"Employers are requiring workers to get vaccinated. Walmart, has gone this route. AT&T is on board as well. In some instances, the mandate applies only to those in management or working at specific offices, however."

You may not be allowed to attend class: close to 700 public and private higher-education institutions are mandating the shot. And younger students could be looking at such a requirement as well: In New York state, a bill has been introduced speaking to that very idea.

"Travel is getting tricky for Americans who are unvaccinated and want to head abroad. For example, you are permitted to fly into France, but you will need to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test. What’s more, France requires proof of vaccination in the form of a “health pass” to visit certain indoor venues"

They're all for "my body, my choice" but when they're tagged first, they want children under 12 (for which there is no vaccine) to be forced to take the vaccine.

They're for "my body my choice" but won't support the vaccinated not wanting to wear masks. You either want liberty from government intervention or you don't. At a minimum the unvaccinated can stop whining about the vaccination not supporting their efforts, because you've all shown you won't return the favor.

  69. "Vaccine passports defeated in Russia!the vaxxed and unvaxxed united!let's do it here and get back to normal!"

Hahahah, good one. This has to be a joke, right? You want this United States to look like Russia. Their COVID response is a huge failure.

"Moscow hospitals will no longer provide routine treatment to unvaccinated patients, health authorities announced Friday.

The announcement is the latest unprecedented measure taken as the Russian capital, a metropolis of 12 million people, saw a record number of new Covid-19 infections Friday. Officials link the drastic surge over the past week to new, more-contagious mutations of the virus, particularly the Delta variant first detected in India."

"Children whose parents failed to vaccinate them would be denied admission to public schools and pre-school facilities, a bill introduced jointly by Russia's Senate (Federation Council) and federal government envisages."

"Meanwhile, Russian foreign broadcaster RT has been feeding Western audiences with anti-vaxxer conspiracy theories, comparing lockdowns and other restrictions to the Nazi occupation and apartheid'

So that's where it came from. Shoulda known.

  70. 2:55 Where have you seen that? I agree that it is a matter of personal liberty and no one should be forced to take a vaccine and no one should be forced to wear a mask either.

  71. Can we stop with “hypocrite” as rebuttal. Debate the idea not who said it.

    ReplyDelete
  72. @10:11 right here on this blog. There was an entire back and forth about students under 12. The argument being that if parents are going to insist on teachers being vaccinated they should agree for their children (even if they're under 12) to be vaccinated.

As for masks, that's right here on this thread and other places on the blog. Everyone is just out for themselves, you don't support us, so we won't support you. Even bringing in other groups "why aren't the police and other city workers". Nice way to throw them under the bus too.

  73. @10:42 Are you the posting monitor, and are you on the right thread? I don't see one post with a one word post saying hypocrite" as a rebuttal.

  74. 1234. 1222am “hypocrite” I’m no one’s monitor. We all get heated and inappropriate. My comment was formed after repeatedly reading about hypocrisy in the comment section of this blog. I’m suggesting we have intelligent debates. Even a hypocrite can make or prove a valid point. If you disagree with someone’s idea I’d like to hear why you think it’s a bad idea. It doesn’t matter if that someone had the opposite idea an hour earlier. Peace.

  75. 2:27.. ah, so 12:22 doesn't just say "hypocrite", it says: because one minute you're talking about "freedom lovers", the next you're ok with mandating masks. Which is it? Seems like you're a freedom lover only when it applies to you personally." So it does explain why the term is used. It doesn't even really matter but the issue seemed to be that 6:09 was talking out of both sides of his mouth and it was pointed out. It's only your opinion that it doesn't matter that they had an opposite idea an hour earlier. WTF is that?

And yes, the anti-mandaters are hypocrites, and only another anti-mandater would think that's ok.

  76. 247. The validity of an idea does not change based on who holds the idea valid or invalid. If I announced don’t drive drunk but the next day I drove drunk, should no one heed don’t drive drunk because I’m a hypocrite? That’s WTF I mean. Debate ideas, not people.

    ReplyDelete
  77. 4:21 on the other hand if you screech about liberty, my body, my choice and anti-mandates, but the next day your yelping that they should mandate that children and others vaccinate, and that you should be forced to wear a mask, that makes you a hypocrite no matter how you spin it.

    ReplyDelete
  78. @4:21 - "the validity of an idea does not change base on who holds the idea valid or invalid". I don't consider any right winger ideas valid. Not one, because they can't be trusted to be honest and they'll change their ideas based on the latest right wing talking points.

  79. Totally different comparison 4:21. You can teach students that drugs are bad for the body even though you may have addiction. That would be much different than telling them that drugs are bad for their body and then giving it to them. *That* would make them a hypocrite. But carry on, you were busy not being the posting monitor, even though you're trying to tell people how they should post. Lol.

  80. Voted for Trump. Please don’t leave your toddlers alone in the bathtub. Look both ways before crossing the street. Are you all going to drown your babies and get hit by cars now because you don’t trust “right wingers?”

  83. Asking to cover their mouth when they cough or sneeze(i saw people cough like crazy without covering)is too much to ask!i ran out fast!was goona have a smoothie, but sat in the heat outside.not a peep was mutteted by anyone.a mask is just a temporary facecloth which can be moved up diwn or off.cant compare to an proven vaccine that has killed people.not a fair comparison.
Do why cant we be like sweden, like someone posted?
You guys dont understand.do u know what boosters every 5 months can do?
Do u want to live and collect a pension?well this is all leading to a digital ID hooked into everything.this shot is the first step of seeioys control like worse than china.i am not a defiant petson saying no for the heckbof it.this was all plamned right before the virus was released.gates is involved.this is deep!

  85. Camile states that the shot is all we have.we have matural and suppressed treatments.grsnted, not totally effective, but just cuz its all we have doesnt mean we mandate going with it.they need to make an honest effort to do better for something safer.we shouldnt settle for something that killed and maimed thoudands.try, try, again...but that is not what greedy pharma and cronies do.until we demand it, it wont happen. I could see the logic if people wete dropping on the street. But not so.the survival rate is high.and ny cases are decreading.deaths are few.risk vs benefit...
