UFT members conflate the UFT with Unity Caucus. Union leaders know this so during election years the Union will spend lots of member dues on expensive TV commercials that are thinly disguise Unity Caucus campaign commercials.
This year's UFT ad is out. It is accompanied by an email from President Michael Mulgrew. It is just one of many ways the Unity leadership tries to tilt the election playing field in their direction.
Dear _________,
Throughout this pandemic, you have kept the learning going for our kids. Now we are fighting for smaller class sizes to allow every child to recover and grow. We are proud to recognize your hard work in a new TV ad, which began airing today. I wanted you to be among the first to see it.
UFT TV ad honoring school communities
The 30-second ad will run until Dec. 16 on programs such as the Late Show with Steven Colbert and Good Morning America and cable television including CNN, MSNBC, NY1 and News 12. The spot will also run on Hulu, Roku and other streaming services.
Thank you for everything you do. Stay safe and healthy.
Sincerely,
Michael Mulgrew
UFT President
James-the joke-is you mentioning the uft spending dues in a way you don't like after demanding we keep giving them dues to spend in a way you don't like.
ReplyDeleteSo now I know what my dues are being used for.
ReplyDeleteVote the assholes out.
ReplyDeleteWere there any Mulgrew UFT any ads last year or in other non-election years? Are we to expect that other UFT presidents of any other party in power— would not do the same thing during an upcoming election? Should members vote to make sure that no UFT dues be allocated for the media/advertisements involving that actually show the UFT President on camera?
ReplyDeleteNot even the newbies are falling for Mulgrew's shit. They hate him just as much as us veterans.
ReplyDeleteLet us see last year's advertising budget. When Cuomo pulled shit like this, the press was on it critically.
ReplyDeleteThe uft does an ad almost every year. I think it's a waste of money, but it supposedly projects our power and status. The guy who said newbies hate Mulgrew is living in same echo island all the rest of this blog is on. He is very popular. He'll lose support of some retirees o er health care, but hold steady elsewhere. Figure 75% support. UFC will take high school EB seats. That's it.
ReplyDelete719 Mulgrew/Unity is not popular. They are just a default. There isn't enough talk regarding caucuses and opposition, which is partly a creation of Unity. They don't want members to know they have real options. We have to get the word out. Talk to colleagues, explain the United For Change positions. Vote for Change!
DeleteThe uft is a totally corrupt entity which cares nothing for its members and even less for the children of nyc. Their only allegiance is to themselves. Judge them not on what they say, but their actions. Abandoning members and siding with the stoner mayor over vaccine mandates. Again siding with the bong smoking moron who never held a real job, over masking our children to the point of abuse. Most of this countries schools are doing just fine with neither vaccine mandates or masks and proves Mulgrews siding with a loser was a bad move. They make a good pair,
ReplyDeleteDUMB and DUMBER

ReplyDeleteEven if Mulgrew wins the election, if he wins by a small margin rather than the landslide victories he is used to, this may wake him up to know he doesn't have the usual support he usually has.
ReplyDeleteUfC is in a unique position. Everyone thinks Mulgrew is thoroughly despised. Frankly, I'm skeptical. Everyone tends to talk to people of similar mind, so if you hate Mulgrew you are likely to be around others who do also. Every three years, the opposition convinces themselves that there's a huge groundswell of discontent with Unity. Then, the vote comes in with 89% for Mulgrew, or Randi, or whoever. Some of this can be laid to the inherent advantage and the slanted process, but not all 40% required to win. There are no accurate polls, so all the anecdotal evidence of Mulgrew hatred is suspect. Here's the take-away, though. This year is the best chance the opposition has had in 60 years. If they pick a dog for presidential candidate, they will squander the chance. A communist. A gimp. A bag lady (or man). Let's see a quality candidate from the middle of the spectrum. Then, who knows? It might be your year.
ReplyDelete830, lol, that's what everyone said when the 2005 contract passed with only 66%.
ReplyDeleteI saw Daniel Alicea come on here before. Is he the UFC candidate?
ReplyDeleteIf so, does he still support a COVID vaccine mandate for kids? A mandate that would basically mean boosters every few months.
@10:17 am... put yourself out front so we can all judge you. It's easy to talk s"it from behind your little screen and keyboard. Keep typing away as the courageous people make real moves. Coward azz.
ReplyDelete10:17 here. What shit? Why a coward. My comments are analytical and not abusive. Like 90% on here I prefer anon. What's the beef?
ReplyDelete@1221pm..... What is the beef?Don't you know that name-calling is abusive? IMO your behavior is indicative of cowardice. We have colleagues who are at least doing something to try and combat the status quo and then there is you--name calling. Put yourself out there so you can be judged. That's the beef pork chicken vegan of it all.
DeletePeople keep talking about the spring break money like it's a foregone conclusion that that will be an easy arbitration to win. The truth is that the case is not clear cut. There's the problem of the 4 CAR days that we were granted. If we win the money, we'll have to return the CAR days. But, what about those who used the CAR days? I guess they won't be paid. We should win something, but the CAR days muddy the water. I'd be interested to hear the arguments in the case.
ReplyDeleteHow is it that uft consults are virtual while educators are in room with 30?ate they still virtual? At the very least, I think it is limited with appointments needed.
ReplyDelete1221 here. I think you're being overly sensitive. I didn't call abuse anyone. I said to avoid running a loser. Hardly sounds like a controversial statement. Perhaps u thought I had someone specifically in mind as a gimp or a bag lady. I didn't. But if you recognized a person behind that and they might be the candidate, then I now understand why you're angry. My comment hit close to home. You're worried.
ReplyDeleteSpring break pay...I used 4 days for passover observance.normally, we are off fr those days.we should get them back.
ReplyDelete@539 pm... sure ok. Anyway. Keep doing what you seem to do best-- judge. My opinion stands.
ReplyDelete539 you were spewing baseless claims about possible candidates and using classic, and ridiculous, scare words. that just gives people fear of the opposition, and that is not what we need to be spreading. we need to support this movement against Unity, not plant worry in anyone's mind. Broadcast solidarity with the opposition, not worry or doubt. Candidates are incoming, the caucuses are voting. It is a democratic process, no one will just be appointed.
ReplyDeleteDon't vote for Mulgrew. He has been pimping for de Blasio during the last eight years.
ReplyDeleteHave you contacted Corey Johnson and demanded he call for a vote on smaller class size.
ReplyDeleteWe are in a fight to get class size reduced.
Teachers All over the city participated in class size reduction activities outside their school's.
Thousands have signed UFT petitions on the issue.
Now we are trying to get the City Council to act.
What have you done?
Who is to blame if you do not participate in the current campaign?
Only you
723 fought to make sure it is added to contract negotiations
DeleteThere have been good candidates. I liked Kit Wainer, but his communism was a problem. Julie was great. Gia was bright but hard to see as a President. Portelos is a nut. I don't know current crop.
ReplyDelete9:37. That is by no means a problem. The crap combination of liberals and conservatives that have exclusively been running the show is the problem. Vote these people out! Vote for change! Time for new blood, and new ideas. Time for people that don't bend to our political leaders. Time to put the rank and file first!
DeleteDo the TRO for mandate was denied...but the hearing about the mandate for municipal workers is scheduled for Tuesday to determine if a TRO will be granted.
ReplyDeleteI think it's fair to say why I consider a communist to be a third rail choice for UFT president. The first reason is that it is a failed ideology that has brought about mass suffering and death around the world. Anyone who would adhere to such an ideology is suspect. Their judgement is bad from the get go. The second reason is that their motivations in making union decisions is suspect. Their main goal is not bread and butter unionism, but rather creating a spark that ignites a world revolution. The welfare of the union may be sacrificed on some quixotic gamble in pursuit of a crazy dream. Now, there are problems with my argument that I admit. It has some resemblance to the slander of Catholics that they would follow the dictates of Rome. But, there's a difference. Most catholics of the time shared a patriotic American attitude. Their love of Rome was strictly religious. But, if you ever attended a meeting of the Communist caucuses, you'll see that they see the world in a totally different light. For instance, in the meeting I attended, reference was made again and again to not using the "capitalist courts" to fight for the rights of the proletariat. Well, I certainly don't want a President who won't file a law suit because of that. We have won many important battles in court. So, for me, a communist must never be UFT President, and I will speak out against such a thing wherever and whenever I can. The opposition can scream about "commie bashing" but I believe no slander is ever bad enough to blacken those who still follow the poisonous ideas of Lenin, Stalin, and Mao, to name just the worst malefactors.
ReplyDelete2:25 nothing you said is true. grow up. socialism is more American than apple pie.
DeleteUnity troll? Or just an odd ball from SI?
Delete12:21 Your ideas are fine. When dummies can’t attack your ideas they attack you.
ReplyDeleteMulgrew is no match for the new mayor and chancellor. He will just bend over and take it over and over. We need someone stronger who cares about members needs and puts members first.
ReplyDeleteThe mayor and chancellor clearly look to blame teachers who can't relate to their students simply because of their skin color. So blantant, obvious discrimination, narrow mindedess.
No reflection on the parenting component as a factor, just blame the white female teachers-
Chancellor-"black males join gangs because they can't relate to their white teachers and don't do well in school"-How about-parents hadn't done their job in years, support their child by making sure homework was done, coming to school on time, showing respect to all,
and valuing education.
"Teachers — many of them white women — often didn’t know how to help.
WHAT WERE THE PARENTS DOING TO SUPPORT THEIR CHILDREN?
Chancellor, the white people would burn the city down if 65 percent were below grade level-as if he is condoning the burning, looting etc that has happened-not be upstanding citizens who wwere protesting peacefully, by the thugs who just want an excuse to steal and hense ruining an otherwise peaceful protest.
Mayor elect-you are racist and in denial of the real problem. All parents need to value education and understand they are the problem too.

I didn't condemn socialism. I'm talking about old guard communism. Like Stalin was a good guy communism. Like no corporations, no private property communism. I'm not talking green new deal. I'm talking collective farms. You don't believe they still exist. Go to a MORE meeting sometime.
ReplyDelete1000. these distinctions you are attempting are no good. green new deal is SocDem stuff. private property, or private control of capital, is a product of liberalism. socialism is an economic path to communism, the communal control of capital. Collective farms is just public ownership of land, which does still exist in places like Vietnam. It certainly beats private capitalist control of the land, like, for instance, Bill Gates owning the farm land here in the US, or Harvard University owning the vineyards and water in California, doesn't it? is this land our land or is it just a factory for the super rich?
