Our extended year contract shows its ugly head. The good news is that next school year won't start in August. The bad news is that the school year is 186 days….a week or more longer than most school districts in the New York Metropolitan area!
Thanks to our crack negotiating team we get to work longer hours and shorter vacations. Can't wait for what else they'll take away in the new contract.

Not only is our school year longer than most public school districts in the New York Metropolitan area, it is longer than most school districts around the country.
Perhaps that's what they meant by parity with the suburbs. We now work as much as they do, more in fact.
Suburban teachers still get paid more than us, despite the UFT's outrageous and blatantly false assertions otherwise.
I guess parity with the suburbs means a different comparison to the UFT then to the rest of us.
What are we supposed to do on June 28?
Newsday just ran a story last week about new contracts on Long Island with 6-8 percent increases, starting salaries averaging 52-55,000, and top salaries by 2013 of 145,000. When you factor in that it takes us a little less than twice as much time to reach top salary, I'd say sounds like perfect parity to me.
Unitymustgo!
Miss Eyre,
On June 28th we will all go to the library and do some heavy reading. Be sure you bring a designated non-reader with you. Then we will all cheer our dear leaders, particularly those of us in the Bronx.
The bastards are actually making us come in on the 28th? WTF?
