This is what everyone has been looking for today on COVID-19 in NYC schools. This is from twitter:
This projection of coronavirus in NY from the bottom of the Gothamist Coronavirus page worried me just as much as the map above. Why are schools opening up again? Is it to make sure that curve rises?

But, um, uft does nothing?
Say it James...
"Don't opt out, it will get worse," as if it could possibly get worse, they are just sending us to get deathly ill.
Without mulgrew, we will have to pay for our own lawyer...People already are.
But we won't be able to vote in elections...Where mulgrew gets 90% and retirees give him no chance to lose.
Where the fuck is the uft? They really arent worth anything. Why pay? I am a SPED teacher working remotely and I literally just got my schedule and I’m annoyed. I am not only responsible for teaching remote students, but also blended students, and live stream teaching to in-person students physically in school while a para sits in the classroom with them while I teach them remotely from home. That is literally my schedule.
Several periods a week, I’m also supposed to be teaching both self-contained classes (2 of them) plus blended remote students (general education and IEP) at the same time. Each period is an hour long and my lunch has been cut down to 30 mins.
Is any of this legal? I’m really asking here. I’m struggling to wrap my head around this.
BIGGER SHITHEAD IS CUOMO.SENT ELDERLY TO DIE, ALLOWS SCHOOLS TO OPEN LIKE THIS.MAYBE TRYING TO DETRACT FROM NURSING HOME FIASCO.TRUMP GIVES THE BOAT, VENTILATORS, JAVITS CENTER, AND HE ALSO HAD SAMARITAN'S PURSE, THEN BLAMES TRUMP FOR LACK OF SUPPORT AFTER HE SQUANDERS IT ALL.HEIGHT OF CHUTZPA!NICE TRY, BUT NO CIGAR!BUT I AM STILL WORRIED ABOUT THE DECEPTION IN REPORTING CASES.WHO WILL ACCEPT BLAME IF WE GET A RESURGENCE?NEITHER HE NOR DIBLASIO, NOR MULGREW. THIS IS A FIASCO, TO BE SURE.HOPEFULLY, WE WILL SURVIVE.
When is it enough? NO SHOW WORK.
Just when you thought the dystopian nightmare that is
NYC schools couldn't get any more surreal, they go & hire 1,500+ glorified employee attendance checkers. Seriously? My kid's class has 124 students!!! We need teachers, counselors, nurses, janitors - not more managers.
So they are sending people to take teacher attendance?
That was my red line line. I just opted out.
You can't opt out until June. We know you are the same two or three who opt out again and again here.
You can opt out now, you just wont stop paying dues until July 1. Many had to get Bryan Glass to sue to stay home, out of their own pocket.
Another mulgrew special, so we get harrassed...So principals were notified that “school readiness building captains” will be assigned to... wait for it... take staff attendance. Please explain why you have $ for this new unneeded position when we don’t have enough teachers or social workers?
LOL. So now only 3 out of 150k people opted out?
1015, that is a lie, you can opt out anytime at newchoiceny.com
Opting out now when you have to pay through June makes less than no sense. You are disenfranchising yourself with no benefit.
At least James won't change your mind. What will you lose by opting out now? At least mulgrew will be notified people are walking away.
Mulgrew has all those new hires to make up for the three of you who have opted out a thousand times and now won't be able to sign a petition to dump the UFT and start a new union that you three won't join anyway.
Ok, great, you dont need the 3 of us. Show me all the signatures you have on the petition and let me know of the result. Post everything. You should have 150k+ who haven't opted out. You should easily be able to oust all of unity.
Cool 1031 pm. So when can we expect to see change?
All you needed was a petition? Why hasnt bit been done yet? Couldve saved alot of suffering...
Not the least bit of change until all of you demand it.
People keep saying dont opt out, yet nothing changes. They have no alternative. They say a petition. Ok, simple enough. Go ahead. I am one of the 3 opt outs of 150,000 members. I did something. Your turn. We keep getting abused. You do nothing.
And post the Oct 15 check with triple dues taken. Proud? Only suckers do that. Then show me the 100k signatures on the petition to oust unity.
Idea:uft should reimburse the money members paid to Bryan since they were unsupported by uft.apply money paid to Bryan toward dues.money talks, bs walks
Why aren’t all the folks that are unhappy with the UFT calling the UFT to complain? Why aren’t they protesting in front of the UFT? Why aren’t they joining a caucus and running for office? Why aren’t they contributing money to their caucus? Why not start a blog and write about what’s going? If you do all that and you still get nowhere, then drop out. BTW, that’s what I did. It was my last resort, not my first. Maybe you’ll do better than I did, but you have to try. At least you’ll feel a heck of a lot better than just sitting back taking the abuse and complaining anonymously.
One of the reasons it is hard to vote Unity out is because 5 caucuses ran against them last time. If only one caucus ran against Unity, we would have a chance to oust them, but those opposed to Unity had their votes split between 5 different caucuses. During the next election, there needs to be only one running against Unity. Otherwise it will be the same thing.
This is the final answer. He has no concern about your safety. Uft president Michael Mulgrew is at the Mickey Mantle School. He says he feels confident elementary schools and K-8 schools will reopen on Sept. 29.
NAC, Solidarity and MORE is 3. Who else ran? I agree they should run as a united opposition but MORE refused.
Come on people MUlgrew is doing what he can do....Remember who MUlgrew is dealing with. Mulgrew is a local NY guy and he has to tread water carefully. For whatever reason diblasio just wants to keep schools open and I believe his primary motivation for leaving schools open stems back to when the pandemic started in Feb/March. Does everyone remember diblasio did not want to close the schools at that time sighting our schools are basically baby sitting centers as well as food distribution to students. So diblasio is very concerned with the people of our city but not so much our teachers.
There are two confirmed cases at IS 219 New Venture School in the Bronx. The school is closed for a deep cleaning and staff members have been instructed to quarantine for 14 days. This is scary!
Bronx ATR,
I have emailed the uft, everyone in the uft, the chancellors, more than one chancellor, the media repeatedly. I have complained about my travel hardship from Staten Island for 20 years. They refuse to enforce what is already in the contract. I opted out. Blame me? What more can I do?
How about grade fraud?
The discipline code?
Abusive principals?
If 7% opted out, which is the number i heard, that is more than 10,000 people. Still waiting for the people from last night to provide the petition with all the signatures.
Show me the petition that is helping these people...
@UFT you said teachers would not have to work in unsafe conditions. These members, their families, their students and their students’ families need you to shut down in-person NOW. #RemoteUntilitsSafe

Many teachers have reached out to us to say their schools are not in fact ready for today, nor are they getting the support they need for their students
No matter how many times UFT tweets today — they SOLD US OUT. Reporting to buildings unnecessarily to teach remotely with a mask on. Yeah that won’t be confusing for kids. plus can we talk about the WiFi when everyone tries to go on at the same time? I salute those who had the guts to be a scab.
Did mulgrew agree to this too???
DOE released new guidance for schools. Previously, DOE stated one ill student per isolation room with a supervisor to avoid potential spread of infection while student waits to get picked up. New wording says multiple ill students can stay in the isolation room at same time.
I’m not blaming you jr. You did something. Teachers today don’t know what a real union is and many view it as a temporary pain to endure. That mind set was instilled not only by the DOE, but the UFT. Start telling everyone you love your commute and school. I used to travel two hours each way also - from Yonkers to Crown Heights (Prospect Heights HS), I really did love that school, Jerry Cioffi asked for me to be appointed there and they sent me back to the South Bronx, just for spite. If I said I hated it, I probably would have been there up to the point Bloomy broke it up. Yeah, it’s a dystopian disgrace of a system. Cheers.
What id do you need if you show up at a doe priority testing site. My UFT card is expired. Will they turn me away?
Mulgrew said he would not allow this.
Plus, a school still can’t confirm a case even if student/staff submits proof. Definition of confirmed case states DOHMH must have case in its system. This structure led to cases never getting confirmed in March. Unclear how much staff works in situation room to quickly follow up
When someone shows you who they are, the first time believe them. Mulgrew has repeatedly shown you. it is the money, it is the fact that all of you continue to get suckered into supporting him.
Mulgrew agreed?
And DOE for the first time is acknowledging students will show up to school on their remote learning days & will be placed in “non-instructional room.” Unclear how schools with severe staff shortages will handle these additional responsibilities while adhering to safety guidance.
What about the horrible contracts he negotiated? And if most kids are home most days which they are the baby sitting / food idea goes out the window.
um, uft?
The Wall Street Journal
New York City’s former top doctor says the city will inevitably face a resurgence of Covid-19, its coronavirus testing needs to be recalibrated to work effectively and older children attending in-person instruction pose a health risk
The uft and NYC teachers are screwing themselves with this ridiculous position. There is no way to eradicate the virus completely. Society either learns to live with it or commits suicide. It's foolish to win the battle but lose the war. Virtual learning will become the norm for the future and they will justify it when the massive budget deficit arrives. That means job cuts worse than 1974. The freight train is headed to NYC. And we can all thank that dope head we have as a mayor.
CURIOUS SPED teacher who wrote about his/her undoable program WHAT IS YOUR UFT REP DOING ABOUT IT???? OTHERS please share anecdotal experiences and outcomes we need to share experiences and solutions right now instead of just complaining
I wish UFT did would pay out of pocket expenses for attorneys. They really did nothing for me and I beat the DOE in an Article 78 case. I also have them in a federal case. Both are out of pocket expenses.
Think if you want to pay this guy 300k. And Mulgrew continues to sell us out. His interview on 1010 wins today made it sound like teachers are so eager to be in person. Saying "the teachers faces lit up when they saw their students, they want to be in the buildings" . Uh yea just because we are happy to see the kids doesn't mean we agree its safe to be there. Look at the amount of staff requesting to be remote.....that speaks volumes .
First day of school and internet is down for the whole campus. Everyone was sent home!
Dear Bronx ATR, I have been teaching for 17years and have Received all EFFECTIVE ratings all Effectives on my MOSL but 3 Developing on MOTP (no ineffectives anywhere) I am being charged with incompetence and awaiting a 3020a hearing.NO TIP NO PIP. Called union they said too bad wouldn't even speak to me hired my own lawyer.

The CDC says covid-19 is airborne and spread by aerosols, warns of badly ventilated spaces
@ I.S. 131 Albert Einstein, Bronx, 2 more positive cases now reported since the first one last week. As of this afternoon the school is closed indefinitely for contact tracing and cleaning and disinfecting. I don't believe any was done after the initial positive case surfaced last week. Everyone working remotely.
@12:13
1. Do you have new admin?
2. Do you speak out against BS?
Good luck.
12:13: IF your MOTP was developing and your MOSL is effective it comes to effective overall. You can't get a 3020 for incompetence if you have an effective overall. It might be something else. You can look at the rubric for MOSL and MOTP. If one is developing and one is effective, you have to get effective overall.
The weekly number of new COVID-19 cases in the United States rose last week for the first time after falling for eight straight weeks, an increase that health experts attributed to schools reopening and parties over the Labor Day holiday.
New cases rose 17% to about 287,000 for the week ended Sept. 20, while deaths rose 5.5% to about 5,400 people after falling for the previous four weeks, according to a Reuters analysis of state and county reports.
This was from Reuters —just posted about 40 minutes ago. This report is not surprising and disaster is just a few weeks away if DeBlasio follows through with his reopening plans. Mulgrew—look at the research and challenge DeBlasio/Carranza. Don’t be a chump.
Dear 12:13,
You’re a vet and you’re being targeted. The admin is going to lose in court and you’ll end up being an ATR. (Even if you could go back to that school, it’s a very bad idea.) Which is what the admin wants - to save on your salary ala FSF. I’d speak to the district rep as well, depending on where you are. If you’ve already done that and the union refuses to help you, go to The Chief newspaper and explain your situation and the Fair Student Funding scheme that perpetuates what’s happening to you. I think they’d be very interested. Your story goes to the heart of why so many are so disgusted with UFT. The union certainly is complicit. Hiring your own lawyer is the best thing you could’ve done. If you’re asking me are you justified in dropping out of the union? You certainly are. There’s lots of people going through what you are, I have two friends that went through the same thing. One was terminated and the other one is an ATR.
You can also become an ATR if you have a pattern of speaking up against the admin or you refuse to play the pass every student game.
remeber when the mayor said everyone demanded to be in the building?

As of Monday, 46 percent of NYC's public-school students have chosen not to return to their buildings this year — up sharply from 29 percent five weeks ago,

Absolutely.
Dear Bronx ATR, Hard to believe I have NO Other Charges. I'm Just a keep to myself first grade teacher I have commendations from this principal and (ALL EFFECIVES and Highly Effective on Behavior) and job offerings from this principal and glowing letters from 3 principals. What do you think the CHIEF newspaper can do? THANKS FOR YOU IN DEPTH RESPONSE!!
DEAR ANONYMOUS regarding 3020a Thanks for responding YES I DID GET ALL EFFECTVES FOR ALL MY OVERALL RATINGS for every year without exception. Hard to believe even my lawyer was surprised Union refused to help besides offering a lawyer Got my own THIS COULD HAPPEN TO ANYONE total abuse
Interesting. After all those years, you’re suddenly awful?! This is on going throughout the city. It’s systemic and based on Fair Student Funding, an accounting scheme created by Bloomberg and Klein, where each school has its own budget and schools are penalized for having veteran teachers at higher salaries. Mulgrew refuses to address it saying the UFT has no say in what accounting system is used by the DOE. This is true, but he could fight it and help end it, but won’t because it creates a revolving door of new hires and ATRs which all pay dues. Your lawyer should look into a class action suit for all the railroaded veteran teachers brought up on bogus charges. The Chief may be interested in your story if it could pair yours with hundreds, if not thousands, of others. All the best and I’m very sorry you’re going through all this.
Dear Bronx ATR thanks for listening and responding Hope to communicate in better times for all sincerely 3020a correspondent :)
If it's not based on your teaching or relationship with admin (you said they've written glowing remarks) then what's left? Discrimination. Parent complaints. Student complaints. Peer complaints. Glad you hired an attorney. Good luck.
