Last week, we touched on the school system in NYC's search for anyone with a college degree to be a substitute teacher. This ad for nurses has been around for weeks according to someone on Facebook.
I have no idea how the recruiting is going but I would like to know answers for these two questions:
●How many school buildings will be starting in person instruction without a required nurse?
●Will the buildings be closed if there is no nurse?

What a scam. That is more than many teachers make, plus tons of food and hotel and metrocard and signing bonus. And the city is broke. Infection rates are skyrocketing. Great planning. Is this part of the uft 50 point checklist to do after school started? Scabs have been 100% right. Do not show up to work.
And no students will be in school buildings. What a fucking waste. So schools are not ready. Where is mulgrew?
How ironic that Clara Barton is having difficulty getting a registered nurse for its building.
This is why I stopped teaching to go into healthcare.

That "weekly food stipend" is likely the IRS per diem rate for business travel. I mention this because this is how those lobster dinners in Albany get paid for too.
It's also a study in how the City wastes money, it could offer a better wage to local RN's but instead is going to pay hotels, travel and per diems. And how exactly is there a teacher shortage existing simultaneously with an ATR pool?

I almost feel bad for the principals and admins. Tomorrow morning they will have hundreds of kids in their schools and very few, if any, teachers. They will herd all the kids into the auditorium and separate each by the one seat. They will tell them it is imperative that they leave on their masks all day long. The AV equipment will not be ready, or prepared, as it’s been sitting dormant for over six months or maybe six years. After 25 minutes the kids will start getting boisterous and start getting up start and running the aisles. Then they’ll start wanting to use the bathrooms and it will be pure chaos. Concerned parents that have the audacity to check up on their darlings will be stopped at the door and hear the tale told at 3PM, if the kids aren’t dismissed early because the principals and APs were removed by ambulances for nervous breakdowns. Covid will be the least of any staffs worry.

Each school will not get an RN. If schools can't get the protective gear needed and cleaning supplies, there definitely will be a lack of RNs.

I didn't say I have been successful but I remain optimistic that teachers are seeing the UFT leadership for who they are. They will not pull you out of infected school buildings. We still need a union as the PSC people are proving at Hunter.
Now that everyone is awake, maybe you will take a stand against what has been STRESSED on this blog: EVERYONE NEEDS TO GET TOGETHER AND VOTE OR DEMAND THAT THE CURRENT UFT LEADERS STEP DOWN. PERIOD. If you want an opt out en masse, start a blog to get it started. This isn't the place. What aren't you comprehending? Opt out. Why is the union doing this? Please post anonymously: I feel gaslit by my administration all the time. They keep assuring families we are doing all the safety precautions, yet day in and day out staff are not wearing masks, not maintaining social distancing. We have a covid case already and still that fake assurance. I want to scream, this is not fair to the families we serve.

I'm saying this isn't the place to try and sway the blog initiator--James. He's stated his position. He isn't the uft president. This is a sounding board for educators. However it's just bizarre that folks are up in arms over his stance. There are many people who don't want to opt out. We prefer getting rid of the current leadership. Not easy obviously. Some people have suggested a different option of removal. Whatever. I understand the frustration and disgust at the treatment. Yes we have been treated like sh#%. It's not new. A call for Opt out isn't currently a consideration so why keep banging that drum? I'm glad that folks are awake now and want change.

I used to leave my email open accidentally on many occasions. Also if they want to challenge theft of time, how about all those teachers who did next to nothing during the shutdown including me who didn't have classes when the shutdown occurred. I slept late, watched tv and went for walks all the time getting paid top salary for it. Also, what about all the people using their cell phones during work time? The theft of time thing is a bunch of bull.
Where is Mulgrew? That's what I have read throughout this entire pandemic.
Think for yourselves. The DOE has provided each and everyone the opportunity to not go into school buildings. Read the memo about Covid and attendance until you come up with a strategy.
