FIGHT TO SAVE SCHOOLS SLATED FOR CLOSING CONTINUES TO GAIN MOMENTUM

For those of you who have been following the fight to save our schools, there were so many positive developments last week.

Jamaica had our rally and "information session" last Wednesday and we nearly filled our thousand seat auditorium. You can read all about it here.

Seung OK was on the radio opposing the closing of Maxwell.

Beach Channel and Norman Thomas also had meetings and there was a rally at Norman Thomas. The UFT is supporting a demonstration at the January 26 Panel For Educational Policy meeting where our fates will be determined. The PEP met on Thursday and there was an auditorium filled with people opposing the school closings.

Get involved and organize. This is not just about the schools that are closing. It's about the future of education in New York City.

I wish people were this involved when they shutdown South Shore H.
S. Tilden H.S. and Carnarse H.S. We tried to tell the UFT and teachers, help us fight this school closing. This is not just our fight it's your fight too! What is happen to South Shore, Tilden and Carnarse could happen to your schools too! You too can become an ATR! But ever few people listened! Just like I told ICE before, nobody knows about ICE or about James E. running for UFT Pres. Many teachers think along the same lines as ICE, but few know that ICE exist or what ICE is about! Because of this we will lose the next UFT election, and Klein will close, ever more schools. This is all a distraction so James E. While he fights to keep his school alive (which he will fail anyway, beause Bloomberg will never stop! If he really wants too save his school he should work on winning the UFT Pres. Then he will be in a postion too stop them!)while our current uft pres. works on getting elected and contuining the work of Randi R. Like before my words fall on deaf ears.

I can't agree more. I was a UFT Rep and was excessed in July 2008 for my having gone to the corrupt SCI about questionable activities and my support for my teachers. In Sept I was sent to another school as an ATR. The principal, a veteren teacher, hired me to fill a scheduling void and I do believe to help me. I also came cheap under the ATR agreement. Although greatful and do like the principal and one AP, I believe it was assumed that I would give up on my beliefs and play dead. I have been extremely vocal with my staff about my support for ICE in the election. I do believe this support has left me vunerable after the year is up and I can be returned to the ATR pool as "not a good match". I have performed admirably and have a good relationship with most teachers. ICE needs to not do the "Bill Thompson" and run an ineffective campaign. If it wasn't for me, the teachers wouldn't know ICE exists. Let get with it. How can I help even more.

You're as cold as ice
You're willing to sacrifice our love

You never take advice
Someday you'll pay the price, I know

I've seen it before, it happens all the time
(Oooh-oooh) You're closing the door, you leave the world behind
You're digging for gold, you're throwing away
(Aaah-aaah) A fortune in feelings, but someday you'll pay

You're as cold as ice
You're willing to sacrifice our love

You want paradise
But someday you'll pay the price, I know

I've seen it before, (oooh-oooh) it happens all the time
(Oooh-oooh) You're closing the door, you leave the world behind
You're digging for gold, (aaah-aaah) you're throwing away
(Aaah-aaah) A fortune in feelings, but someday you'll pay

(Cold as ice) You know that you are
(Cold-cold, As-as ice) As cold as ice to me
(Cold-cold-cold, As-as-as ice)

(Ooh-ooh-ooh) (Cold as, cold as I-I ice) (You're as cold ice) yes
(Cold as ice) You're as cold as ice, cold as ice, I know
(Cold as ice) (Cold as, cold as ice) Yes I know
(Cold as ice) (Cold as, cold as ice) You're as cold as ice, cold as ice, I know
(Cold as ice) (Cold as, cold as ice) Oh yes I know
(Cold as ice) (Cold as, cold as ice) You're as cold as ice, cold as ice, I know
(Cold as ice) (Cold as, cold as ice) Oh yes I know
(Cold as ice) (Cold as, cold as ice) You're as cold as ice, you're as cold as ice, I know (to fade out)

Run with ICE in the election and campaign. That's how you can help. Notice of ICE meetings are posted on this blog. It's not up to the small number of people in ICE. It's up to the UFT membership to get the word out.

Read the posting. It says to get involved. Contact ICE; it's simple. Spread the word. It's not that hard.

Will someone from ICE please respond to Anon,12/21,12:32, inquiry of why no one got involved in the closing of South Shore, Tilden, Carnarsie? How about for members not being involved when they shutdown: Taft, Stevenson, Evander, Walton high schools? Absolutely no one stepped in to do something about that!! How about Franklyn K. Lane HS??!!

I was very angry to see so many Bronx high schools being closed, of course angry about closing the other borough's high school, yet it would seem that the members were so complacent about those closings. Members were just going about their normal routine and saying to themselves, "oh well as long as it doesn't happen to our schools or in our neighborhood."

Well it is in your neighborhood and it is happening to your schools. If ALL the members had done something about it in 2002 with the first wave of closings was happening, then BloomKlein would've felt the bite of the union through solidarity. WE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY THEN TO DO SOMETHING EVEN UNITY DIDN'T THINK SO!

Now I ponder on this. How do you stop something that's in motion since 2002 and picking up speed at an alarming rate? Just think about that and let's come up with a plan that truly means "do or die" within the union.

Please don't assume that I will give up the good old fight because I WON'T. But, I want the members to know that this truly might be the last fight for the UFT to exist before it slowly, but surely, deconstructs.

Just look at the union contracts and the labor agreements that are being negotiated or already negotiated in connecticut, green dot (which Randi on purpose convince them to come to new york)and in other states where the AFT is proposing these contract negotiations that give away 50% of the members' rights.

If we don't wake up NOW and convince the other members to propose a UFT insurgent takeover, we are DOOMED!

This goes back to Julia Richman which has to have been in the eighties. The opposition has been fighting it since then.
