UNITY ATTEMPTING TO SUPPRESS OUR LAWFUL PETITION CALLING FOR A MEMBER VOTE ON CHANGES TO HEALTHCARE

Unity is in panic mode over our petition to get a member vote on any significant healthcare changes. Thousands have already signed.

You don't need chapter leader or district rep approval to sign a petition. It is your UFT Constitutional right and US Constitutional right.

It is up to all of us to join the thousands who have already signed the petition demanding a full member vote on major changes to healthcare.

The UFT Constitutional language:

Article V, Section 10

At the written request of one-third (1/3) of the entire membership of the Executive Board or of ten percent (10%) of the membership of this organization, the Executive Board shall submit to a referendum vote any matter except a proposed amendment to this Constitution and matters relating to the admission, suspension or expulsion of members.

Unbelievable. A UFT District Rep is seen discouraging UFT members from exercising their union right to participate in a constitutionally defined, democratic, petitioning process. Why? Because Mr. Shapiro has not sanctioned the petition from on high?!

If anything or anyone is sanctioned by the union, it should be this Adam Shapiro fellow.

I encourage you to pay dues directly so the likes of Shapiro can laugh at you.

Two Points: 1) This news proves that Unity reads all the teacher blogs which is a good thing. 2) Adam Shapiro is a total tool. He is literally being paid by UFT leadership to deceive rank and file members to convince them to NOT vote on changes to our healthcare. (Which by the way is allowed by the UFT's very own rules) Seems like Unity is getting desperate here. I for one, love seeing the UFT leadership sweat for once. And if Adam is reading this, I hope he is aware that he is hated by almost all of the responding teachers on his social media posts. It is beyond obvious that you are bucking for a higher level union job by shilling propaganda that is of no benefit to the people you serve.

This was the first online petition I have ever signed. Thanks for sharing the link in a previous post. Hopefully others were also motivated to sign.
