January 7 is the Public Meeting for Jamaica

We urge everyone to attend and comment at all of the hearings on the proposals to close schools. For Jamaica High School, the meeting will be in our huge auditorium. All are invited.

January 7, 2010, Jamaica High School - 6 PM - Sharp!! Calling all Alumni and friends of Jamaica High School!

Join the Hundreds of others there showing the passion ---this has just begun. - Save Jamaica High School - Calling all Jamaica High School alumni! Calling all those tired of the politicians lying to us and making horrible decisions!

Council member Leroy Comrie told us to e-mail every day Joel Klein,jklein@nycboe.net and Mike Bloomberg at mbloomberg@Bloomberg.com and say that the people will not let them close Jamaica High School. That they cannot justify this action.

The funding for Jamaica HS went to other schools. Keeping the school open didn’t mesh with the plans to revitalize Jamaica and its shopping district…. so this grand and one time glorious institution will be shuttered forever and this was decided a long time ago.

Help keep JHS alive and return it to the crowning jewel it once was. Help ensure that the funds are spent here instead of closing it down and opening up 2 other smaller schools. JHS will not accept 9th graders in 2010 and those who are there will still graduate….but, with what funding?

What skills will they graduate with? What attention will these students receive? It is apparent that not only do these decision-makers not care about these students but they have deceived us by planning this move a long time ago and keeping silent about it.

The building is land marked. If the bulldozers come to take it down, I would not be alone in lying in front of the machines daring them to move.

Check out the Save Jamaica High School on facebook and see the momentum.

PLEASE SHOW YOUR SUPPORT AND BARRAGE THESE ELITISTS WITH EMAILS, CALLS AND LETTERS DEMANDING THAT THEY KEEP OUR SCHOOL OPEN.

Boy, do YOU get worried when this comes to YOUR door. Too bad you didn't have this much energy and caring when it happened to Lane and other schools. Well, better late than never.

Nonsense 11:44. James and ICE from the beginning have been opposed to closing schools. It's not just James at Jamaica. The school community is very well organized.

More Nonsense 12:04. James and his crew only started to care when the DOE began to target his school. James insists that he "keeps in touch" with people at Lane. I've asked around, no one talks to him and over 85% have no idea who he is. I see so much more energy on his part since they announced the closing of Jamaica (a school that, in my opinion as one who worked there a few years ago), SHOULD be on a list for reorganization.

You obviously don't read this blog to know how ICE opposes school closings.

Gee, we noticed just how active you were when Lane and other schools closed.

James has his own members to service as chapter leader. You sure didn't seem to do much that wsa of notice. Did you go to the DA or Ex bd to demand the UFT do something at Lane? Or are you asking James and ICE to fight the battles you don't have the nerve to fight?

ICE was at Tilden meetings and we have been attending meetings at school closings. We condemned Randi when she said Lafayette should be closed.

ICE leaflets for years have proclaimed: Fix schools, don't close them. Notice how Mulgrew is now using it without paying royalties or a 2nd pension.

Where have YOU been?

It looks like Unity man is back disguised as a Lane teacher. Only a self serving Unity person or a completely anti-union individual would criticize a chapter leader for organizing their chapter and school community against an injustice.

CLOSE JAMAICA! IT'S DISMAL GRADUATION RATE IS AN INSULT TO THE GREAT BORO OF QUEENS. SHUT IT DOWN. ASK YOURSELF, IN ALL HONESTY, WHO WOULD REALLY SEND THEIR KIDS TO THAT DCHOOL?

Anonymous said...

Klein said exactly that. That must be who you are. Under Klein who would want to send their kids to any school under his control?

Anonymous said...

Klein now reads this blog? He must be worried that ICE-TJC will win the UFT election and he will have to deal with you guys. Wouldn't that be great?

SAVE JAMAICA! This is an attack on minority communities and we will not stand for the destruction of the centerpiece of this rich area of JAMAICA, QUEENS. Jamaica HS has been at the forefront of helping the special needs and ELL Populations Of the great borough of Queens with the little resources. A failure at Jamaica, Beach Channel and Murrow clearly reflects not a failure of the schools, but a failure of the NYDOE and policies that in now way help our students. Help minority communities instead of hurting them.
