Klein has Sponsors in State to Kill Seniority & More from Florida

Joel Klein is looking to change state law so we can be laid off even with seniority. He has sponsors for this legislation in Albany according to the NY Times.

Meanwhile, the sickout in Miami, according to the Miami Herald, was more like a pandemic as teachers in Florida took action without union support to fight a bill that was passed and is awaiting the governor's signature that would end tenure.

Here is the actual bill.

Wake up everyone we are fighting for our lives.

I am so upset with Michael Mulgrew and the rest of the Union for the lack of concern about this issue. Mulgrew should be mobilizing the teachers. How about getting rid of all the DOE consultants, the AUSSIES that make so much money a day ($900 or more??, plus airfare tickets, and housing), the Kaplan, etc.

If Mulgrew allows this to pass muster then I would suggest that all District Reps and Union hacks be let go first.

Elections have consequences. Don't blame most of the people on this blog who voted ICETJC. The DOE knew ICE positions were more aggessive than Unity. They are using his victory to try to destroy us.

Teachers, you were warned here first!

UNITYMUSTGO!!

My immediate thought was that Unity will fight this one because they'll be the first kicked out the door. Their salaries are paid when most of them never step foot in the schools to teach. DR's with their schedule light, they're kind of expensive also considering they teach only one period a day.

"The protest in Florida, I would hope, will serve as a wake-up call to the Obama
administration to the fact that teachers are sick and tired of being
scapegoated for "failing schools." Although only 25% of the Florida
teachers actually didn't show up for class, it was a sufficient number
to make a definite impact on "business as usual." The apparent
deafness of the Obama Administration, almost mirroring eight years of
Bush Administration policies, to the abundant evidence that relying on
standardized tests to measure student learning is pedagogically wrong,
misleading and harmful to young learners, leads me to the conclusion
that this is a calculated decision by the President, or certainly his
advisors, that has and will continue to have serious negative social
and economic consequences."
