RETIREE ORGANIZATION FACT CHECKS MULGREW MISINFORMATION ON HEALTHCARE

Yesterday, the UFT put out a Frequently Asked Question document on healthcare.

We have the response from the NYC Organization of Public Service Retirees and it is printed in full below.

The reality is healthcare savings=healthcare givebacks. Retirees and then active employees will end up with inferior healthcare if Michael Mulgrew has his way.

Please download and send the Fact Check to every city employee and retiree you know.

Do you think there is a possibility that the UFT will have to pay back the money that they took from the Health Stabilization Fund? It is my understanding that it is 1.2 billion dollars. The UFT is spearheading this campaign to change the code so the UFT will be absolved of the debt. Every city worker retiree and active will be affected by this change to absolve one union's debt. This seems unfair on a moral and ethical level.

The reason the UFT is spearheading this campaign to change the code is so that the UFT will be absolved from this debt. But this change in code will affect every city retiree and active member and this is all to absolve one union's debt. This seems unfair on a moral and ethical level.

The Stabilization Fund has a billion dollars in it I am told. It isn't broke.

James,
there's a leaked video of the MLC's intent to amend 12-126 which is the below title on youtube.
"LEAKED AUDIO: Special Municipal Labor Committee Meeting on Admin Code 12-126 Amendment"

Additionally, Marianne Pizzitola, from NYC Organization of Public Service Retirees, Inc. explains on youtube the leaked video. The below title is the following:
"The MLC Meeting: just a few points"

I hope that you can share this with others.

We posted the MLC meeting video with Marianne's commentary last week.

James—who told you that the stabilization fund has a billion dollars in it? And how do you know that their information is accurate?

James Eterno said...

I was shown a document by reliable sources that showed the balance in the Stabilization Fund. If you can show that was wrong, get me the information.

I have no sources or any proof of anything. I’m just a commenter on this blog. But-you say you have reliable sources along with a viewing of a document. Are you a journalist too? Are you willing to share your sources/documents—or is that a secret?

James Eterno said...

I don't want to expose a source. I guess I am an amateur journalist.

The UFT posted the new language that the city/MLC wants in Administrative Code 12-126, however, there is no explanation
of what “any class of individuals” means. In the yellow highlighted section of the proposed change of language the city and MLC are asking for, how are we to interpret what a “ class” is? Will there be different benchmark plans for different types of workers/retirees? Will some “classes” have less coverage and/or premiums? I think the city/UFT/MLC are purposely NOT explaining what a “class” is so that they can differentiate healthcare coverage however they want to and screw both actives and retirees. I think actives and retirees deserve a clear explanation from our union leader but, alas, will not get it.

I just shared it. Unfortunately it seems like that's the most we can do. Working for over 40 years seems to mean nothing to Mulgrew etc. However they can save a penny, is good enough for them.

medicare has an appeals process for advantage plans that goes all the way up to the Federal District Court. We need to educate people about their rights under the appeals process.

When people are sick, the last thing they want to do is fight the bureaucracy. Time is of the essence for many people battling diseases such as cancer or sickle cell or whatever. If traditional medicare is what I invested in since the age of 14, who gives this joker in a suit the right to switch it up on me?
