It will still be a shit show in NYC public schools as I'm certain only a small percentage will actually give their children the tests and share the results. Families will make certain their children pass the test so they can dump them in NYC public schools. A small percentage will do it correctly and report the truth. Although these will be the same individuals who would have kept their sick kids home in the first place.
What about testing in Pre-K and 3k? Parents send these kids to school on medication that wears off in a few hours. They lie on the waivers and send them to school with symptoms. Also, these kids can't get vax'd and they take their masks off in the same space for breakfast, lunch, snack and naptime. Plus they need to be reminded to put mask on their noses. We are babysitters. What about our mental health? We should be allowed to leave daily now at end of day. No need for extended time on Mon/Tuesdays. No gathering all together as a staff in auditorium.
TWO POINTS: 1) As of right now, home tests are not valid for use in NYC schools by students or staff. 2) Covid IS a state issue. Each state is responsible for how it maintains covid regulations since states are already given tons of money from the feds to use at their discretion.
Over the past two weeks, COVID cases have spiked across New York City, and the mayor, DOE, and UFT leadership have carried on with business as usual. In their collective absence, MORE members organized in their schools to protest the unsafe working and learning conditions.
During this break, when we should be enjoying the holidays with our friends and family, we are anxious over the return to the classroom. People are sick and burnt out, and the DOE and UFT leadership are still not addressing the many concerns coming from the community.

I can't understand what is wrong with America. In New Zealand, if they get one case of Covid the prime minister shuts down the country for 3 days. All her people love her and they are happy there. There's no talk of poverty and starvation. Their death total is in 3 digits since the pandemic began.
