I really don't understand why voting out Michael Mulgrew is even a debatable issue to anyone except for those on the UFT's payroll who are trying to hang onto their jobs. For everyone else, Mulgrew showed two years ago that he would put collecting union dues ahead of member health.
This is part of what we wrote two years ago on March 17, 2020, criticizing the useless three days of professional development that were foisted upon Department of Education employees:

I have heard all kinds of reports from friends and family in schools today. Teachers reported being sent to classrooms to plan for distance learning but nobody told me they were doing work or having meetings that couldn't have been done at home on a computer or phone. It was very irresponsible, in fact dangerous, for the Department of Education to send so many people to work today and not immediately close completely for tomorrow and Thursday too.
Under these circumstances and with a shelter in place order being imminent, I see no reason at this point to risk spreading the COVID-19 virus by going to work in school buildings.
Camille stayed home those two days. Many others went to work and too many became ill with COVID-19 and far too many passed away in the spring of 2020.
What did UFT President Mulgrew do when UFT members had their health put in jeopardy at the height of the pandemic in NYC in March 2020?

The Daily News published a message from UFT officials sent to District Representatives Saturday, March 14. This message was sent after the time the UFT now admits they knew buildings were unsafe. They sent it out because members said they were going to be absent en masse.
But UFT officials are privately warning members against that move, arguing it could be interpreted as a violation of state labor law, according to a message reviewed by the Daily News.
UFT officials told union representatives Saturday to "advise against" a planned call out on Monday.
“A coordinated sick-out will be interpreted by the DOE as an organized effort in violation of the Taylor Law and the Triborough Law,” union officials wrote its leaders.
“They will perceive it as a labor action and strike. Each participant is subject to a fine of two days’ pay for every missed day and arrest. However, even worse, the UFT will suffer greatly with fines and penalties. Please advise against.”
The UFT told the truth when they said that it was even worse that they would suffer greatly with fines and penalties. This blog noted that the Taylor Law prohibition against strikes was not going to be invoked in the middle of a pandemic.
The 2022 UFT election is simple choice:
We are not just talking about COVID here. There are many other unsafe conditions Camille and United for Change will not put up with.
Or
You can vote for Mulgrew-Unity and just continue with further concessions, no matter the consequences.

I was an ATR at the time and didn’t go in those 3 days and did no work from mid March 2020 until the last day of school.
The doe gave me a 3 and a half month paid vacation.

Possible contract change: I can possibly see a change in the upcoming contract where the extra 120 minutes per week is eliminated but no raises for the first year of the contract. Then something shitty like 1% a year spread out over the next 3 years. Thoughts?
I mentioned on one of the Facebook teacher groups that the only reason folks who are supporting Mulgrew/Unity are those who are trying to get a full or part time job at the UFT. Those same folks say that is not true but I believe they are lying. At this point in the game, there is no logical reason to support the crappy things that the Unity Machine has done over the past 20 years.

I hope noone thinks that Camille, or anyone else for that matter, is just going to waltz in and get everything their heart desires just because they ask, demand, or threaten. James, could be wrong, but during the pandemic you were always suggesting that people walk out of their jobs at the risk of losing their pay, and their jobs. If Camille is President, at your urging, she may very well call for a call out when you think it's the best course of action.

Adams will satifsy both sides, his and the teachers. Teachers will get a big raise if they agree to work summer school and weekends, while teachers who refuse will only get a miniscule raise. Young teachers and teachers near retirement will take the first deal. For the others, Adams will say teachers were given the offer of a big raise but didn't bite. ALso I don't call them raises, I call them cost of living increases.
This is exactly the kind of crap that shows that a debate is needed! Camille needs to call out Mulgrew on this and a ton of other things in a public debate. If Mulgrew is hiding/refusing to debate, this fact must be shared on social media and the press.
Mulgrew is garbage. The current UFT does not support or protect current members. They do not get us raises that keep up with inflation. ALL CURRENT UFT EMPLOYEES SHOULD BE PLACED BACK INTO CLASSROOMS FULL TIME. THEY NEED TO SEE WHAT WE DEAL WITH ON A DAILY BASIS. NO ONE SHOULD HOLD AN OFFICE MORE THAN 8 YEARS.

11:20 you get very defensive whenever anyone says that you might have some influence. It's not so far-fetched that someone as active as you still are, wouldn't have any suggestions or influence in a direction their spouse should take. That would be quite NATURAL.
You say "when it is unsafe you don't go in", and that's exactly what I'm talking about. You don't get to dictate when people should walk out. There wasn't even a vote on it, and if I recall, a lot of people were against it. You often used another state as the example, and they had to scurry back, quick, fast, and in a hurry or were going to be fired. And stop saying "you don't know Camille at all". Would be quite a problem if voters "don't know her at all".
The industrial hygienists/scientists tell us if it is unsafe and then UFTers don't go in and we tell every parent that the building is unsafe. This is not controversial unless you think union dues are more important than member health.
I predicted Unity 79%, ufc 20%. I'm less confident in the margin now, but since I acted like a blowhard, I gotta stick to my guns.
Honestly, get rid of PTC nights(have it end at 2:30 twice a year) and get rid of teacher torture sessions Monday and Tuesday, eliminate PD day in June and make it a day off as well as Election Day as a day off and I take less of a pay increase.

My issue is the mandates. Unless the alternative to Unity is anti mandate I’m not interested in UFC. Getting teachers fired over a vaccine we were lied to about was a priority for UFC. Unity was no better on the issue. Both groups can go fuck themselves.
There are so many things wrong with the the DOE and the UFT. We have nothing to lose by voting for Camille. Under Camille's leadership, the situation for teachers will either get better or stay the same.
Under Mulgrew's leadership, we are guaranteed to suffer: more corruption, more criminal activity, more abuse by students and administrators, more work time, more paperwork, more googleclassroom, more pd time, more teachers like golf guy (which I can understand but not excuse), more apathy from teachers, etc. Years ago, we tried to hide our in-competencies; Mulgrew broadcasts his and we just go along!

I will be voting for Camille. I am a school counselor. When I started there was no caseload cap. Twenty plus years in, there still is no school counselor caseload cap. The DOE eliminated a centralized system to place mandated counselors in schools. Mandated counselors used to be placed through the office of the superintendant into schools where that was their focus. Full dedication to special education students. Now, added onto the responsibilities of school counselors, are mandated counseling responsibilities.
The AP/PPS administrative position that falls under the umbrella to oversee mental health clinicians - school counselors, social workers-, attendance, admissions, discharges, transfers, etc. has practically been eliminated from schools unless it is a large school, such as, Stuyvesant, LaGuardia, etc. The elimination of AP/PPS impacts on the school counselor's work as there is no AP for the department with experience in counseling to whom we can go to discuss cases. Yet, there are too many principals in a building that earn approximately $160K+ to oversee 400 students and go after staff.
Truly, the NYC DOE does not have the best interest for students.

I respect and admire teachers. I will not allow anyone to say in my presence that teaching is an easy job. Teachers earn that summer vacation and every other paid day off.

Academic social emotional counseling for all students--how can one even begin to meet the counseling service mandates, effectively? Good luck to you. Do your best and call it a day at 3. The DOE and UFT doesn't care about the students or educators. The system is broken.
Let's not forget planning interviews which is a beast of it's own and attendance 6:12PM and 5:00PM.
