UFT PROTESTING AT A BROOKLYN SUPERINTENDENT'S OFFICE THURSDAY (updated: Protest Cancelled)

Here is an email from a UFT District Representative to chapter leaders promoting a protest on June 15th.

Update: This protest has been called off since, according to Michael Mulgrew, UFT got everything we asked for in meeting with this superintendent and the chancellor.

Hi guys,
So here it is; on June 15th we are organizing a demonstration outside of the office of Hs Supt. Karen Watts.  We plan on starting at 3:30.  The address is 1396 Broadway, Brooklyn.  The nearest train is the J train stop of Gates Avenue.
The background is this:  Supt. Watts has a long history of supervising and empowering bad principals without providing any check on their malfeasance.  We are calling attention to the Boards failure to reign in bad principals.  I need your assistance in organizing and turning out your members.  This is urgent.  If we can successfully mobilize and call attention to our issues this will give us the leverage we need to push back against bad principals all over the city.  This is a local protest with citywide implications.  I am calling upon you as leaders of your staff.  Please join me.
I hope demonstrations like this are being organized and promoted throughout many districts by the UFT as a start to a fight back campaign.

Hey 7:16, I do not agree. We can not go back to the old system of school boards. Some were very corrupt and dysfunctional. People forget how bad things were back then. I don't agree with all aspects of Mayoral control but it's definately better for some if us.

Who do you think is responsible for principals and superintendents acting this way and being allowed to do so? " We are calling attention to the Boards failure to reign in bad principals' There is no Board, there's the mayor - but let's picket to get the Board to act. It would be humorous if it wasn't so unbelievably stupid. So you're using a strawman argument to say we should have mayoral control instead of trying to defend a UFT district rep that's trying to enact pressure on a Board that doesn't exist. Now that is humorous.

Ive said countless times, nice try, too little, too late. The cat is out of the bag at this point. Dont try bringing water after the building already burned down.

Kill the Mulgrew-DiBlasio-Farina ring of corruption!

I wasn't here way back when, but I can't imagine anything worse than what we have now. Of course, when Dubya was President, I said the same thing, so, I've been wrong before.

There will be no protest in Queens you can be sure about that. Rona Frasier and James Vasquez from Regional UFT office went extra 100 miles to protect Sup. Mendez who is crown jewel of incompetence and corruption. This guy is extremely talented in finding most abusive and inept admins and protecting them in all cause. On the end of the day they are his creation. On another hand Mendez is not able to create anything. He destroys everything. So where should we start the protest? Queens Blvd or Linden Blvd?

Picket!Picket!Picket! Abuse needs to be checked toute suite. Why don't you start the picketing to end mayoral control. I will join that too.
When we speak in volume (a group) folks will listen. If you call that moronic why are you calling for a picket?

Superintendents, the chancellor, the mayor and Mikey. The superintendent/chancellor/mayor and even Mikey are THE BOARD.

UFT should be protesting the disaster called MAYORAL CONTROL

Oh and how soon will we be able to opt out of dues?

No, they aren't - that's mayoral control.
