NIXON TWEET ON CUOMO 2011 TAX CUTS THAT ARE STILL HURTING SCHOOLS

I saw this today on Twitter from Cynthia Nixon.

Cynthia Nixon @CynthiaNixon
In 2011, Gov. Cuomo enacted a $1.3 billion cut to our schools—to fund an enormous tax cut for the wealthy and corporations.

As Governor, I will never, ever, put corporations before our children.

Read my plan to invest in schools not jails.

Why again does NYSUT-UFT not take a pro Nixon position in this race? Are they afraid of Cuomo or thankful that he signed a bill into law getting NYSUT officers double pensions three years ago and one helping unions keep members this year as opposed to doing much at all to support most union workers or anything that I can think of for public schools.

THE UFT HAS SOLD OUT TO Cuomo, DeBlasio and the mainstream Democratic Party.

And we are the losers because of that.

‘Seat at the table....’

To be fair, every union that had once supported the Working Families Party pulled out by direct order of Andrew Cuomo this spring.

To mix metaphors, we hold onto the seat at the table despite the fact that, like with Charlie Brown, Sally pulls the football out from under us every time.

Let's be accurate Harris. Sally was Charlie Brown's sister. Lucy was the one who pulled the football. We aim to be as accurate as possible here at ICEUFT. Sally was a little nicer than Lucy.Seriously, we do get your point.

Afraid of Cuomo, afraid of backing someone who won't win (I know, it's a self-fulfilling prophecy), afraid of... the sky? Afraid of everything, more or less, is what I'd say.

How do I opt out?

We've seen this before from our leadership. In 2009 Jonathan Halabi pushed to endorse Bill Thompson at the DA and leadership shot it down, the UFT stayed neutral ostensibly to hedge its bets. Thompson ended up only losing by 4 points despite no money and no institutional support. With UFT and other municipal union support Thompson would've been over the finish line - there was already major grassroots opposition to Bloomberg and his crooked 3rd term deal - but Unity decided we should sit on our hands, and gift the most anti-teacher Mayor ever (IMO, worse than Giuliani) a 3rd term in office.

Then in 2013 the leadership again misread the tea leaves, this time it endorsed Bill Thompson since he was the most vanilla (no pun intended) candidate in the D primary, and spurned DiBlasio. No wonder our relationship with this mayor is lukewarm at best.

Capitalism brought us slavery, colonialism, genocide of native people and Trump. SMASH CAPITALISM NOW!

Equal opportunity veering off topic. Please stay close to the topic and no anti union website links here. Thanks.

Re: Illegal Immigrants...This is an Obama quote...but when Trump says pretty much the same thing, it is no good.
“...this huge influx of mostly low-skill workers provides some benefits to the economy as a whole —it also threatens to depress further the wages of blue-collar Americans & put strains on an already overburdened safety net.”

I don't care who my union leadership endorses. I am voting pro-union and pro-teacher. If the union leadership can't endorse based on that, then the U.L. won't get my vote on the next go-around.

Workers of the world unite. Capitalism must fall.
End the slavery of the working class. Capitalism has killed many more people than socialism.
