EXPANDED SCHOOL CLOSINGS NOW MAKES DE BLASIO-FARINA BLOOMBERG-KLEIN PART II

We have referred to the Carmen Farina-Bill de Blasio reign over the schools as kind of a Bloomberg-Klein lite but we can no longer consider it a lighter version as now the worst part of the Bloomberg policy of closing schools by ignoring the communities that want to keep their schools open is back in full force.

Everyone needs to hear what Norm Scott said to the Panel for Educational Policy last Wednesday. It is classic Norm expressing the frustrations most of us who have anything to do with the NYC school system under mayoral control feel. Nobody is listening to the public. Telling us we can vote out the mayor once every four years is not enough democracy. I would venture to say with some confidence that most of the voters do not have kids in the public school system. Mayoral control is the problem.

Norm is next.

Does the UFT go these meetings? Do they care? Those meetings are just for show, they change no one’s plans. The entire system is rigged. No more dues from me.

UFT does not give a shit since the dues keep coming in. Once Janus happens, they are in for a big dose of reality as up t0 40% of teachers are gonna pull dues. THEN the UFT might give a shit.

I hate to say it
but i think the number will be closer to 30% unless the newbies really all drop out.
the vets i speak to are all(reluctantly) staying

These types of town hall style meetings have gone on for years prior to the closing of a school. It's an opportunity to VENT, but it does not change the plans the DOE and city have towards closing schools. But, the show must go on and these types of demonstrations are important. Perhaps one day things will turn around so don't give up. Who will be next on the chopping block? Will it be adult education and transfer schools?

BYE BYE UNION DUES!!!!
DON'T KNOW OF ANYONE (ASKED QUITE A FEW MEMBERS) WHO WOULD PAY FOR DUES WHEN THE SERVICES WILL BE FREE SOON ENOUGH
UFT (USELESS FOR TEACHERS) DID THIS TO THEMSELVES
HOPE THE USELESS AND INDIFFERENT BUREAUCRACY AT 52 BROADWAY WIND UP BACK IN THE CLASSROOM TO BE HARASSED DEMEANED AND TORTURED LIKE ALL THE OTHER RANK AND FILE MEMBERS YOU CONSIDER BENEATH YOU

Amen to that.

With the DOE bombarding us weekly with acronyms, I love that one.

UFT= Useless for Teachers

Welcome to our progressive, loving and tolerant sanctuary city!
Do leftists think George Wallace also should have been allowed to violate federal law?
Nothing makes me turn more right than watching and listening carefully to those on the left.

Would it be possible to pay dues just to NYSUT and not the UFT? At least NYSUT provides lawyers for the sham 3020a charges.

They are probably going to replace older teachers with new teachers. Always the same pattern.

Anonymous said...

Eventually they want to push out all the veteran teachers of the system.

Anonymous said...

The UFT is fine with the DOE pushing out veteran teachers, and hiring new ones.

Stop paying dues. Save the money and put it into an emergency fund for a private lawyer if ever needed for a 3020a case. Within 2 years you will have enough saved for that contingency. After that, use the extra money for vacation fun!

Jeez, how far off the issue can these commenters get? The Doe sucks - not paying dues will only make them suck worse -- and if you don't think it can get worse just wait and see. While you sit on your asses people actually came out to these meetings to at the very least embarrass the hell out of an abusive superintendent. Brave young teachers giving Farina hell while you sit around and carp. You deserve everything that will happen to you.

Stop the defeatus attitudes. Fight back which also means hold the UFT accountable.

Anonymous said...

How can you hold the UFT accountable if they do not want to do anything?

Hope everyone shared their thoughts in the survey that was sent out to members. Do not stop at that. Contact your district and special representatives and let them know what your expectations are. Continue to do this. If members were to inundate them with what is expected, then there will be change. Do not rely on a chapter leader to do it all.

Fair student funding is responsible for age discrimination , including but not limited to : negative observation ratings, being told harassing lies during your post-ob , being over-scrutinized on a daily basis as administrators look for anything they can call a problem even when it isn't a problem, being treated differently than younger teachers and told you didn't do enough of something during the lesson, false accusations, principals having derogatory conversations about you with parents in an effort to gang up against you, closing schools and dismissing only older teachers who have to go on interviews that they will never win, being unfairly targeted for termination charges, being ATRed and therefore sent like a bag lady or man from school to school. And the list goes on. And this is ALL the result of Fair Student Funding

The whole thing is to push out experienced teachers, and replace them with new teachers. It is clearly a setup.

The UFT is making it very easy to target ATRs by refusing to enforce the contract. By refusing to file grievances that are legally legitimate. By creating the ATR pool. By agreeing to field supervisors that are only there to go after veteran teachers. By not allowing a chapter for ATR's. By making us third class citizens. Which per diem subs are being observed by field assassins? By eliminating seniority. By agreeing to fair student funding. By destroying thousands of teachers careers. By agreeing to rotation in a vocation that is built on relationships. By refusing to respond when we are vilified in the press. By telling us that we are lucky to have a job and benefits. By refusing representation in any situation that they should be helping. By theft and denial of services. I can also mention racketeering. They colluded with the DOE to not only create the ATR pool but to assist in the psychological warfare that they the Human Resources enforcement arm of the DOE.
The UFT had sold us out at every turn. The truth is that because of NYS civil service laws they can't have us fired . So all you can possibly say about the UFT is that they pupport to represent our interests and take our money for it. They just hurt us terribly. There is a special place in hell for these sociopathic parasites. I eagerly wait for JANUS. I'm going to keep my money. They need to be starved. Mulgrew is a complete disgrace.

What survey?! That’s my point. They used to ask us what we wanted before contract negotiations (pink survey in which we ranked stuff). Now, nothing.
