UFT FINAL 4 MAYORAL CANDIDATES INCLUDES 2 PRO-CHARTER SCHOOL SUPPORTERS

I am filing the UFT's mayoral endorsement process under the bizarre category, even by Unity Caucus standards.

Why would President Michael Mulgrew even consider candidates such as Yang and Adams who are not teacher union friendly? Shouldn't we be opposing candidates who stand against our core principles? The weirdness doesn't stop here.

The UFT eliminated progressive Dianne Morales who issued this statement:

As a longtime UFT member and analyst, I truly don't get the UFT-Unity thinking on the mayor's race.

That says it all. Pay dues everybody. Right? Your interests clearly come first. Proud of your union?

Sat through all 4 groups of the pre-groups. Hated most of them. Forget policy, some couldn’t complete sentences. Some of them were just awful and I hope they never get near power. Not shocked at the final 4.

I actually really liked Art Chang during his interview. He was a real person who was active in his kid’s public school— SLT even!! He would never be elected because he isn’t know but he came off very well.

I don’t know where Scott Stringer is in all this, but he seemed like he would be the best for public school teachers and students. I also think he would do well for all NYCers. He is one and he has worked his way up the ranks.

This is where James says...it isn't that bad, we make 6 figures, we need a strong union, after the last 30 years of abuse we are gonna change it now...as mulgrew get 86%.

I'm not surprised. It's ANother punch in the gut i.e bullying, targeting, retaliation, March. If this doesn't make people wake up and push back, what will? Sheesh

Bloomberg said... the UFT endorsement is the kiss of death... lol, he was right. Whoever the UFT picks loses... Mulgrew thinks he works for the MAYOR and is trying to get in good with his new boss.

Oh, fantastic. My union leadership is strongly considering endorsing Yang, a guy who keeps talking about what scumbags teachers are. Great job, @UFT @UFTUnity @BrianUFT

Yang is going to go full charter and make the schools more segregated because he isn't going to want any Asian students to not have access to top schools.

I never vote for who the UFT endorses, I would vote for Scooby Doo or Magilla Gorilla rather than any of these candidates.

952, what the fuck are you gonna do about it?

Pogue said...

It's the old "seat at the table" posturing. "Seat at the table" = scraps, givebacks, and union leadership lip service.

The seat at the table is the high chair.

Lol. 952 tweeted at Brian Gibbons. The uft could get us a 10 year deal at 0% raises with longer workdays and Gibbons would call it a victory. Don't you guys realize you can't do anything? But keep taking the abuse while paying $1500. Enjoy paying a double payment in July on retro day. Teachers ain't smart. Won't opt out. Won't walk out. Sad! Perhaps you are waiting fir 2020 spring break pay to make your decision. Or the next town hall with screened questions and non answers.

The covid B117 strain is extremely transmissable when it comes to children...As mulgrew has schools open. And you all do nothing. And you pay dues...pathetic, right james?

Anonymous said...

@9:22 so what do you get for optting out? a couple more dollars per pay check? whippeee
the right to sit on your high horse?
you can complain all day long about the uft, but by opting out- aint nothing you can do about it/or to them.
Hell you can't even vote on the next sh***ty contract.

I wish people would stop complaining about paying dues. You would need at least 10 percent of the membership to stop paying dues for the UFT to notice. A few hundred or so is ineffective. Also, people are afraid that if they get a 3020 that the union won't back them up. Why don't you people start rallying other UFT members to stop paying dues instead of just mentioning it on a blog.

So obviously I claim risk if I opt out while possibly getting charged with something at some point and not having their lawyer. My one vote changes nothing. You act like the ckntract or election are 51%-49%. 2014 got 80%. Mulgrew last got 86%. It isn't about $1500. It's about wanting to vomit knowing I'm paying ANY money into this.

1116...How many years are you going to take this. Maybe you work in one of the 5% of good schools and you don't notice the problems.

@302 this is 1116
i've been through the doe wringer
been u rated
been an atr
now at a school
not the best, not the worst of the bunch.
maybe its inerita, maybe its wishfull thinking, but i think being a part of the union is more imporatnt then $1500.00

Based on what? The service the uft provides? What service is that? You can live with paying into their scam? Substandard contracts, raises, Spring break last year, retro 12 years waiting, grade fraud, no discipline code...? I can't.

This is what I am paying all my dues for?

If you are still paying after the last 12 years you are a sucker.

I attended nearly all the mayoral endorsement Zooms. As far as schools are concerned, Art Chang was tops. Being a relative unknown, he was obviously removed by leadership as a non-viable candidate. But I hope we see him active in the public sphere in the future. He is a valuable ally for our kids and staff. I think the union officers are looking to stand Yang up against some other possibly viable candidates, and show him for what he really is. He cannot get away with changing his story at every stop the way he has been doing all along. I hope the leadership gets it right! (And I would happily offer him a one-way Uber back to exurbia.)
Also looking forward to the comptroller endorsement. They preselected three, and I found two candidates I would trust with our pension system.

James, you seem to be exerting more control over people who wander off topic. It certainly improves the conversations you aim to foster. Thanks for all your patience and hard work!

Yang will be the second Bloomberg.
