This was sent our way this evening:
What does it even mean. Is it teachwr discretion to offer or service remote learning. How do you tell parents that Principals dont want to pay?
So what is the change? I dont see anything different
Very tough to do depending on class size, tech distribution, school network. Even the most skilled students, parents teachers and principals struggle with live simulations. In my prior school last Fall/fall things aligned to have many try and do it. Rare situation.Earbud in one ear to hear kids at home, they can somewhat hear you from that mic. Most of lessons shared over zoom not rely on webcam to see the work. Webcam to only see room. Kids in room often using laptops for much of the class anyway to work together.Students at home adapted not perfect but felt connected and could see friends.Even in D75 we had some great classes but depends on time if day, how many days home. Wasn't even day a success and was so so much work.
Look omicron is declining. It’s not killing the vaccinated and boosted. Let’s take a chillpill. Shame on the parents who are willing to throw their children’s future away because they so terrified that their children will bring them Covid. Is that because they are not vaxxed? Full speed ahead. I ride the MTA 1 hr round trip every day. Teach full time five periods. 25 year veteran. Have NEVER gotten Covid. Why? Because I’ve never stopped wearing a KN95 mask since day one. Cloth and surgicalmasks are not that effective in preventing infection in yourself. But we’ve know that since May 2020. And don’t tell me you can’t breathe. Jeez.
It just added that any student that has a positive test from any of the tests including take home test, will be provided asynchronous instruction and office hours
10:47: It's also about bringing it home to family members. You can't generalize everyone based on your experience.
Is it my understanding that only students who test positive can get remote learning? What about those in quarantine and students who are out sick for reasons other than covid?
We know how many kids have tested positive in our school system and how many are just absent. The number positive is a miniscule sliver of the actual absences the past 9 school days. IT IS ALL PUBLIC RECORD.
Many students have covid. Parents LIE on the Health Screener. They work the system everyday for years. They don't care about anything else.
So provide asynchronous assignments for the couple of kids whe test positive in each building but nothing for the other 200,000 just absent. Deal.
its time for adjustments. Too many students and staff members missing everyday at my middle school. The new dope in the mayors office needs to stop talking like he is a tough guy from Brooklyn and make an adjustment. Go remote for the month of February its only 3 weeks and then give a remote option for those students who cannot come back into the buildings. Its a different world out there none of us created this mess. Corona and the N95 masks were made in China. Make options available since every family has needs and its time to move past the pandemic
So if student A test positive and his class is all given rapid tests. Now let's say B,C,D and E test positive they are allowed to enter into remote. I guess the parents of kid F must feel like the class is a safe place and send the back. NO REMOTE OPTION FOR YOU! THE DOE IS TO SMART FOR ME.
Anonymous 10:47 I want to remind you that pre the covid vaccines the vast majority of people contracting covid were asymptomatic or lightly symptomatic. The same is true now post vaccine. It may be proven true that the majority of covid admits to the hospitals currently are unvaccinated. However, that doesn't tell the full story about these "unvaccinated" people. Conspicuosly missing is the data on what proportion of these unvaccinated that have previously contracted covid and recovered and how many of them have underlying conditions. The corona virus vaccines were billed as being able to prevent the contraction and transmission of corona virus. That's not what it's doing though. Now it's being billed as lessening the symptoms, preventing death and keeping you out of the hospital. But for the vast majority of the people that have contracted corona virus both pre and post, without being vaccinated, we can tell you that this same outcome is quite typical. We need to have an honest conversation about these vaccines. Being vaccinated is not inherently virtuous. And not being vaccinated is not foolheartly and irrational.
Hi,Are teachers and staff supposed to, or allowed to be maskless doing their prep periods?Based on the UFT guidelines it seems to me that they have to be masked at all times (unless eating/drinking).
10:47 is a fool that tries to get a rise out of all of us. No respect for teachers I doubt he/she is one. 3:41 you are correct in saying that government has changed the story over and over. They are not honest. We were supposed to not be able to get covid or spread it which is why we were forced vaccinated, we should have been at herd immunity by now. People do suffer long term effects from Covid. This is consistently underreported. The effects of covid are under reported as well. We are being told to return to work with symptoms along with nurses and doctors because "we have to babysit" and nurses and doctors have to help the sick people. Many nurses who are fully vax are getting sick. The government lies. Adams is a fool with swagger. Banks is another moron. It amazes me how they just 2 weeks ago said "all children need to be in school to learn" Obviously many of the only students he cares about which are black and brown have parents who can think for themselves and don't agree with them. Now they advise people to badger their schools UFT rep for a remote option. I see how the "get stuff done" fools operate. They don't give a shit about our health or the health of our families.
No Live Streaming!! Would be Admin. Danielsen field day after all teacher's have been through.
Why are we not even doing g our PD day remote? Is it really necessary to pack into an auditorium? Then Pack into classrooms to attend our PD via Google Meet.
It is not so much the pablum that you are fed with "you are lucky you have a job."Rather this is code for: "you are lucky that you are overpaid and have great benefits. & FU"
The ascent of Erick Adams to mayor and David C. Banks to NY City schools chancellor is a sign of national madness
Just call in. We are awaiting to hear what our principal is going to say. If she says we have to attend in person, then many of us will just take the day. Many schools already informed staff that PD DAY will be remote. Same old crap anyway. We won't miss much anyway.
